12/19- Celebrity Read in/ Class Parties

Reading & Social Studies: Students will work in their research book clubs to explore the Lost
Colony (NC History). They will be evaluating sources, and analyzing point of view/perspective
of historical events. Class work will be used as formative assessment of students
understanding.
RI.4.1 Refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when
drawing inferences.
RI.4.2 Determine the main idea of a text and explain how it is supported by key details; summarize the
text.
RI.4.3 Explain events, procedures, ideas, or concepts in a historical, scientific, or technical text,
including what happened and why, based on specific information in the text.
RI.4.7 Interpret information presented visually, orally, or quantitatively (e.g., in charts, graphs,
diagrams, timelines, animations, or interactive elements on Web pages) and explain how the information
contributes to an understanding of the text in which it appears.
Writing: We continue to generate ideas for writing. These ideas will serve as inspiration for
future writing units. This is an important step in becoming a fourth grade writer!
Science: Students will be looking at the fat content of foods we eat and learning how to read
a food label. Ask them questions at home about the labels on the foods in your home and the
choices they make. They will also be looking at the exercises they do and how this can benefit
their bodies. We will finish our study of nutrition with an in class project for their formal
assignment.
