B. Materials:
-Because of Winn Dixie
-Written summary once a week of the chapters read
-Test of the book
C. Introduction:
When I was your age I read the book Because of Winn Dixie. It takes you on a
childhood summer journey that teaches about forgiveness. As a class we will
read the book together and give any student who wants to read aloud the
opportunity.
D. Instruction Procedures:
1. We are going to start by reading one chapter of Because of Winn Dixie a
day. There is a total of 26 chapters. Each day we will write a summary of what
we have read. At the end of reading to chapter 10 we will make a conclusion
on how we think the book will end by providing supporting reasoning from
analyzing our previous chapter summaries.
2. Each student will create their own summary of each chapter. When it comes
to creating a conclusion of the book they will speak with their class mates and
get some ideas from each other. Most of the students will cooperate and
participate in reading aloud.
1. At the end of the book students will see how accurate their predictions were.
2. Most of the students were not accurate with their predictions but some
students came closer than others.
1. Once the students read the book they will take a 52 question test with two
questions per chapter.
2. Overall the students as a class will have a high B average on the test.
E. Closure:
-Students will go over their initial conclusions and see how accurate they are.
They will then take the test about the book. Following a test the students will
summarize their overall opinion of the book.
F. Evaluation:
-A total of ten point will be given for each chapter summary.
-The prediction of the ending of the book will be worth twenty points.
-The average of all the graded entries will determine the grade.
