1. Introduction
1.1 Job analysis

Job analysis can be described as a detailed examination of a particular job or job

classification which involves a systematic investigation by using a variety of methods to
determine essential duties, tasks and responsibilities. Also the relevant conditions of the job
tasks to be followed and what the job requires in terms of knowledge, skills and abilities,
experience and the required physical conditions of the employee (only in special cases) are
included in a job analysis [1,2].

The most frequent outcomes from a job analysis are the job description and the job
specification for a particular job. Also Job analysis results in the identification of some other
special parameters: the essential functions of a job, knowledge, skills and abilities required
performing the actual requirements of a job and the competencies required to meet job duties.

Job analysis can be carried out using different methods such as interviews, observations,
critical incidents and work diaries, questionnaires, surveys and technical conferences [3].

A wealth of information may be gathered during a job analysis. So the information from the
job analysis may be divided into three categories: job content, job context, and worker
(human) requirements.

The job content refers to activities of the job or what workers actually do on the job and it
recognizes the duties, responsibilities, output levels and training requirements of a specific
job role. The job context refers to the working conditions which are to be performed under
and the demands such jobs impose on the worker, which is not under the control of an
individual employee but by the respective organization. Also worker (human) requirements
refer to the worker qualifications needed to perform the job actual requirements of the job [4].

The results of a job analysis provide data which may be used with enriching the human
resources activities attached to a given job classification, including:

Remunerations and classification

Recruitment and selection methods

Requirements for training and development

Performance appraisal

Strategic planning for HR

2
By doing a job analysis, it can be revealed about the unassigned duties of the job
classification and also could avoid duplication of work in a workplace.

In real practice job analysis is used as an efficient tool for the amendment of the employer
selection process in corporate entities. Furthermore, job analysis is used to determine the best
and the most efficient way of doing a curtain job classification, enhancing the job satisfaction
of the staff and utilizing the available resources in the corporate entity.

3. Discussion

Medicine is one of the best regarded professions in the world and the individuals who aspire
are of high caliber. All medical institutions look for such individuals in hope of gaining a
high work quality and ethic ultimately driven for the betterment of humanity. The post of
General Physician looks at the overall context of medical aspects and requires a lot of skills
and traits within the individual. In general terms, the respective individual should be sound in
hard & soft skills.

Individuals should have a minimum educational qualification of MRCP (UK) or equivalent,

at least 4 years in accredited general medicine training posts. Apart from the educational
qualification, a full registration with the general medical council should also be present by the
time of applying for the job. As clinicals are the dominating duty of the job post, it highlights
the responsibility for the care of the patients under the prospective candidates charge. These
include being able to communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, their families
and other health professionals, delivering a coherent service development, delegation, team
playing and excellent leadership skills are a must. The nominal procedures of clinicals are
subjected to be reviewed from time to time according to the change of requirements. Hence,
the potential candidate should be able to work flexibly in the changing health service while
maintaining good working relationships.

Personal skills and qualities are highly valued throughout the medical career. It is specifically
mentioned about the quality outcome from the individual. Along with this, ability to take
responsibility and to cope with stressful situations is expected since the work load may
become immense. Pride and prejudice should not be present, since the sensitivity in dealing
with patients and colleagues should not be bound by judgmental approach first hand. This
factor is in line with non-discrimination in which he/she respects and promoted individual
rights, interests, preferences, beliefs and cultures.

Teaching & research in collaboration act as the secondary duty of the general physician.
He/She would need to teach undergraduates and postgraduates and would be teaching in the
University of Nottingham Medical School. Medical cases (patients of various diseases) will
be further studied under appropriate research criteria, in accordance with the national
framework for research governance. Each member is further expected to take an active role in
clinical governance activities. It is expected from the applicant an ability of teaching and

9
supporting junior staff in an effective manner. This includes proper supervision and
coordination by the individual himself.

The job is a very tedious one but which gives a large outcome for the benefit of the patients.
Satisfying important criteria is a must to receive the basic standard. Further additions enhance
the quality of the output. It can be clearly seen that the job looks at the practical aspect of
clinicals as well as academia aspect through research.
