Step Four: Professional Development Evaluation

The final step occurs after completion of your Activity Log and prior to submission to
CDR at the endof the recertification cycle. It is a self-evaluation of the degree to which
you met your Learning Plan and also the effectiveness of your plan and selected
learning activities. You should take this into consideration when you create your first
learning plan post-credentialing.

Respond to the following prompts:

1. How has your level of knowledge changed as a result of your learning plan and chosen
activities? I was able to choose activities that I know I can improve my level of
knowledge with. There are so many things to learn and these continuing education
activities give us the opportunity to learn more.
2. Which learning activities were most useful, and least useful? Why do you think that is?
Going to FNCE was the most useful. A lot of the sessions really helped increase my
knowledge in new areas. The AND-STL meetings are also very useful, in a similar way to
FNCE because they discuss topics that are important to learn about in our profession.
The materials from Todays Dietitian were a little bit less useful, but I still learned from
them and enjoyed the material.
3. How did the completion of these learning activities impact your future practice? I now
have more knowledge and can continue to build on that throughout my career.
4. Determine whether you met each of your goals. Which ones were fully met, partially
met, and not met at all? Why do you think that is? My goals were almost fully met. I
would like to get more for goal one in the area of building rapport. I did not do any
activities related to this and I think it will be a very important part of my career.
5. Which of these goals would you like to keep for your first plan as a credentialed
practitioner? Which do you expect to delete and why? I would like to keep all of them. If
I had to delete one, it would probably be goal 4, competency 12.1 Advocates for health
and disease prevention in the community and population if I end up in a clinical setting
and am limited on time for this type of work.
6. Now that you have completed the internship, have your career goals changed or stayed
the same? What new skills or knowledge did you gain? List 2 3 goals you plan to focus
on when you complete your first PDP. My career goals have stayed the same. I want to
keep working on the ones listed in my plan. Once I get my first job, I will probably add a
few to tailor them to what I am doing. The goals I plan to focus on are:
a. Utilizes appropriate communication methods and skills to meet the needs of
various audiences.
b. Interprets and applies current food and nutrition science and principles in
dietetics practice.
c. Demonstrates skills in researching, independent critical examination and
evaluating literature to influence practice.
