Introduction - So because it is the Christmas season we are going to read this book The Polar Express.
(attention grabber) - Who has heard this book before? Has anyone seen the movie?
Learning Activity Title -

o So I like the book much more than the movie but that is just me.
o Before we start I am going to ask, who believes in Santa Clause? No shame if you do. I think its
awesome
o I need you guys to really listen, especially to the ending of the book. There is some important
information at the ending. Will Dominic be listening as well? He was listneing
o As reading. Use expression.
o (After reading) What did you guys think about the book? So what was your favorite part of the
book? Why was that your favorite part?
o Okay so at the ending remember how Santa brought him back the bells and how the boys
Body parents thought the bell was broken? Why couldnt they hear the bell? Do you remember
(Activity #1) what the narrator said on the very last page? How certain people could hear it if they truly
believe? So with that information why couldnt the parents hear the bell?
o Only people that truly believe could hear the bell right? So because the parents didnt believe
in Santa they couldnt hear the beautiful sound the bell makes.

o Okay so I am handing out a sheet that should look pretty familiar. It has a box at the top and a
line underneath the box for writing.
o The first thing on your paper is your name etc.
o Imagine that you guys are on the polar express and you are chosen by Santa to be given the
first gift at Christmas. What would that gift be? So the question to answer is what would you
ask Santa for? You need to draw a picture of that object, or it could be Santa giving it to you
and you need to write I would ask Santa Clause for
o For Dominic So for you Dominic, you pretend that someone is going to give you a gift. You just
need to write As a gift I would like you still need to draw a picture of it.
o Make sure you guys sound out your words. If you guys are done early you can color your
picture.
