Upcoming Change in School of AE Ph.D. Course Requirements at Georgia Tech


Expected to be Effective: July, 2018

Shown below is a description of the course requirements in which the upcoming changes are highlighted.
The change primarily lowers the required number of course credit hours beyond the B.S. degree from 50
to 42. In the description below, strike-through is used where requirements are changed and the new credit
hour numbers in each category are shown underlined and in red:

42 (50) hours of letter-grade, formal coursework beyond the BS degree


o May include up to 30 hrs of relevant grad. coursework from an accredited univ.
o MS courses count toward this total
o Special problems credits (e.g. AE8900) do not count toward this total
o Must be at 4xxx level or above
Includes:
o At least 9 (12) hours of Math
Satisfies Institute Ph.D. minor requirement using Math courses
o No more than 6 (9) hours at 4xxx level
o At least 18 (19) hours of GT AE coursework
o No more than 6 (9) hours of relevant non-technical courses
