Immigration in Australia

In Australia many people feel that there is not an immigration problem, but if there

wasn’t an immigration problem, why would the Australian government have to establish travel

visas and immigration camps? Australia actually has many immigration problems so they are

making ways to control the problem by establishing laws and visas to stop the flow of

immigration to the lowest extent that they can.

The people that make up the illegal residents in Australia may surprise you, Fiona Conner

from Daily Mail Australia noted that “approximately 70% of the illegal residents are in the

country on expired visitor visas with 15% on student visas”. This information shows that only

about 30% of the illegal residents in Australia came to the country originally without permission.

This shows that Australia should be more uptight about their legal immigration system and if

people choose to break that system they need to inforce there laws to the fullest extent possible.

They have a policy against illegal immigration into Australia but the policy could be majorly

improved on.

When illegal immigrants reach Australia the country’s government have a pretty set way

of how to deal with them. In an article written on by Gabrielle Appleby states that immigrates

that reach Australia are put into detention centers where the conditions are not well. This policy

confirms that the country has a well set plan on how to deal with the immigrants, but is it really

the best way? Locking the people up in jail may scare them away but what stops them from

staying in the country after they get out? They need a better way to keep the immigrants from

coming into the country.

Australia is going to change their immigration policy. Phillip Lynch from the Irish Times

states that their prime minister, Malcom Turnbull announced that it would be harder for people to

migrate and become Australian citizens. But without further information about the new policy

we wonder what he is going to do to control the problem that they have with immigration in

Australia. But for the people living in Australia illegally can be there for many different reasons

What it’s like to live and work illegally in Australia. Marie Segrave from

Theconversation.com has provided the information that most migrant workers don’t go to

Australia because they want to, they go to support their families back home this could mean

many things maybe back in their home country there could not be a lot of job, or maybe women

cannot work, people could be lawbreakers back in their home country and they cannot get a job

anymore because their government is looking for them. It’s actually quite surprising how many

of the illegal residents currently hold a job in Australia.

A lot more illegals in Australia hold a job than you would think. according to Matthew

Killoran from Courier Mail approximately 1/3 of illegal immigrants in Australia are currently

holding a job. That statistic could raise concerns on how those people got those jobs, and also the

economic impact it may have on Australia if those jobs are taken away from them. If they had a

stronger system on preventing immigrants from getting jobs then they wouldn’t have to worry

about the businesses having losses if their illegal workers get arrested or even possibly deported.

Instead they would hire legal citizen’s and not have to worry about that problem. Also, the

suspicion of where all these immigrants come from may cause problems.

We wonder where all of these illegal immigrants come from that migrate to Australia,

www.migrationpolicy.org has cleared om this confusion. The United Kingdom is in the lead for

illegal immigrants in Australia, it majorly outweighs other country’s statistics on their

immigration. The problem with this is, is you start to wonder about what is going on in their

countries that they need to migrate to Australia. They could bring sicknesses or illegal substances

or they could just bring tension or illegal convicts over from these foreign countries. In order for

Australia to really control these problems they are going to have to take really big steps forward

to make things the way they should be.

In order to keep Australia safe, they are going to need to change a lot of things up. They

need to focus more on migration problems and less on things that aren’t as important. It doesn’t

seem like its that bad of a problem but when you step back and take a good look at it, its actually

a big problem. They need to come up with a new and improved immigration system that better

keeps their citizens safe. Even if they dropped the number of illegals in their country it would be

way less of a problem, it would help with illegal workers. Crime and just everyday disputes that

happen because of immigration. In my opinion they aren’t strict enough. If they had a strict

policy than this wouldn’t be a problem, they wouldn’t have the same flow of immigrants that

they have and this wouldn’t even be a problem in the first place. In conclusion australia could

use a lot of work with their policy. And if they just make a few small tweaks to their system the

whole country would not have to deal with this problem.
