Julie De smet & Julie Verstraete

HET PERSPECTIEF
Introduction
Activity 1 (Paddington & The Christmas Visitor)1
Introduction
Paddington discovers a special visitor on the roof of his house on Christmas Eve. He teaches him a
valuable lesson. Can they save Christmas?
Task
Watch the video. Answer to the following questions:

 Did you like the video? Why (not)?

 Retell the story. What happened?
 Do you celebrate Christmas? Or do you (only) celebrate New Year?
 Do you celebrate another holiday (during this time of the year)?
 What kinds of presents do people buy each other for holidays where you live?

 We decorate a Christmas tree for Christmas. What kinds of decorations are

popular for holidays where you come from?

Vocabulary
Christmas is an example of a holiday. In Belgium we celebrate Christmas and New Year: we come
together, eat, have fun and enjoy these holidays. We buy presents for our family. We give
presents to our friends too. Of course we also get presents! We decorate a Christmas tree for
Christmas: we put lights and colourful decorations in our Christmas tree.

All the LIGHTS are shining
There is just one thing I need, and I
So brightly everywhere
Don't care about the presents
And the sound of children'
Underneath the CHRISTMAS TREE
Laughter fills the air
I don't need to hang my STOCKING
And everyone is singing
There upon the FIREPLACE

Activity 2: That’s Christmas To Me – Pentatonix
Task
Listen to the song. Put the verses in the right order. Enjoy!

1 The fireplace is burning bright, shining along me

I see the presents underneath the good old Christmas tree
And I wait all night 'til Santa comes to wake me from my dreams
Oh, why? 'Cause that's Christmas to me
2 I see the children play outside, like angels in the snow
While mom and daddy share a kiss under the mistletoe
And we'll cherish all these simple things wherever we may be
Oh, why? 'Cause that's Christmas to me
3 I've got this Christmas song in my heart
I've got the candles glowing in the dark
I'm hanging all the stockings by the Christmas tree
Oh, why? 'Cause that's Christmas to me
Oh, why? 'Cause that's Christmas to me
4 I listen for the thud of reindeer walking on the roof
As I fall asleep to lullabies, the morning's coming soon
The only gift I'll ever need is the joy of family
Oh, why? 'Cause that's Christmas to me
5 I've got this Christmas song in my heart (song in my heart)
I've got the candles glowing in the dark
I'm hanging all the stockings by the Christmas tree
Oh, why? 'Cause that's Christmas to me
Oh, why? 'Cause that's Christmas to me
6 Oh, all the joy that fills our hearts and makes us see
Oh, why? Cause that's Christmas to me
7 I've got this Christmas song in my heart
I've got the candles glowing in the dark
And then for years to come we'll always know one thing
That's the love that Christmas can bring
Oh, why? 'Cause that's Christmas to me
Activity 3: Oh Baby It’s Cold Outside – Idina Menzel & Michael Bublé
Task
Listen to the song. Cross out the wrong word and fill the gaps. Enjoy!

I really can't stay (but baby, it's COLD outside)

I've got to go away (but baby, it's COLD outside)

This evening has been (been hoping that you'd drop in)
So very nice (I'll hold your hands, they're just like ICE)

My mother will start to worry (beautiful what's your hurry?)

My father will be pacing the floor (listen to the FIREPLACE / REINDEER roar)

So really I'd better scurry (beautiful please don't hurry)

But maybe just a half a DRINK more (put some CAROLS / RECORDS on while I pour)

The neighbours might think (baby, it's bad out there)

Say what's in this drink? (no cabs to be had out there)

I WISH I knew how (your eyes are like STARLIGHT / SUNLIGHT now)
To break this spell (I'll take your HAT, your hair looks well)

I ought to say, no, no, no sir (mind if I move in closer?)

At least I'm gonna say that I tried (what's the sense in hurtin' my pride?)

I really can't stay (oh baby don't hold out)

But baby, it's COLD outside
I simply must go (but baby, it's COLD outside)
The answer is no (but baby, it's COLD outside)

Your welcome has been (how lucky that you dropped in)
So NICE / KIND and warm (look out the window at this dawn)

My SISTER / MOTHER will be suspicious (gosh your lips look delicious)

My FATHER / BROTHER will be there at the door (waves upon the tropical shore)
My maiden aunts mind is vicious (gosh your lips are delicious)
But maybe just a cigarette more (never such a BLIZZARD before)

I've gotta get home (but baby, you'd FREEZE out there)
Say lend me a COAT (it's up to your knees out there)

You've really been grand (I thrill when you touch my hand)

But don't you see? (how can you do this thing to me?)

There's bound to be talk tomorrow (think of my lifelong sorrow)

At least there will be plenty implied (if you got pneumonia and died)

I really can't stay (get over that old out)

Baby, it's COLD
Baby, it's COLD outside
