Introduction
If you choose to go on a Nile cruise for Nile tours, make sure that the cruise is
taken as “all inclusive”, i.e. accommodation, sightseeing tours and transportation!
This option is the best way for you to see all the possible Temples en route. We
would therefore recommend, for health and safety reasons, to choose only the five
star or 5 star + Nile cruises! The cost for one night accommodation ranges between
$90 and $150 per person per night in a twin room.

Today there are more than 220 Nile cruisers on the Nile between Luxor and
Aswan, I various classes of 4 star, standard 5 star, and 5 star deluxe and imperial
Ultra deluxe.

Prices of accommodation depend largely on which deck you have chosen to stay,
staying in the lower decks is generally cheaper than staying on the upper deck. Try
and obtain a plan of the boat before you book. Your cabin will be fitted with air-
conditioning and a TV set.

Any good cruise boat will keep the cabins that are closer to the engine, for the
staff! The guests staying away from engine noise. Please Note: It is very important
to have your tourist guide on-board during your cruise visits.

A Nile Cruise continues to be on of the most popular features of any visit to Egypt.

The comfortably appointed and well-managed river boats provide the traveler
with easy access to the many major archaeological sites along the Nile Valley. As
the ship progresses along this impressive waterway, the full impact of the Nile's
significance in Egypt's long and distinguished history becomes clear.

At the present time, there are over 190 boats licensed to operate Nile Cruises.
Making the right choice would appear to be an impossible challenge. The
following guidelines are suggested by MISR TRAVEL, Egypt's long established
national tour operator: Nile Cruise ships are essentially river boats designed for the
shallow waters of the Nile. They are often referred to as floating hotels. Actual
cruising time is limited since much of the program is taken up with sightseeing.

The ships are docked for part of each day to allow guests to disembark for
shopping and independent exploration. All cabins are outside with large picture

windows. A limited number of cruise ships in the higher price range have private
balconies. All cabins have private bath. All 5 star vessels have a small swimming
pool and sundeck.-with the exception of the 10 night cruise (see below), the ships
sail between Luxor and Aswan. - to join a Nile cruise, clients will require air or rail
transportation to Luxor or Aswan from Cairo.

- cruises range in length from 3 nights to 10 nights. Included in the price are all
meals beginning with lunch on the first day and ending with breakfast on the last
day. Guided sightseeing is also included in the cruise cost as follows: 3 night
cruises provide 5 sightseeing tours including Aswan, Kom Ombo, Edfu, Karnak
and Luxor Temples.

A tour to Luxor's West Bank sites (Valley of the Kings) is NOT included.

4 night cruises provide 6 sightseeing tours and include those listed above PLUS a
tour of Luxor's West Bank sites. 6 and 7 night cruises provide all tours covered by
the 4 night cruise. At the present time, the itineraries for these longer cruises vary
from ship to ship. For example, some sail Luxor/Aswan and vice versa and include
the 6 tours of the 4 night cruise itineraries PLUS a visit to the Temple of
Denderah, north of Luxor. Others operate a circular cruise, sailing from Luxor to
Aswan and back or vice versa with no additional tours other than those included on
the standard 4 night itinerary.

10 night cruises sail from Cairo to Aswan and vice versa and include visits to the
historical sites around Minya in addition to the tours included in the 6 and 7 night
cruises. As a rule, 10 night cruises only operate from April until October because
of navigational problems on some stretches of the river during winter months. At
the present time, few ships are operating on this route.

- the ships managed by several international hotel chains - Hilton, Sheraton,

Oberoi, Sonesta and Mowenpick – maintain a level of consistency and reliability in
services and accommodation year after year. There are also several excellent
locally owned and managed ships. dates of travel, length of stay and budget most
frequently determine the choice of ship - the excursion to the Abu Simbel Temples
is NOT included in any cruise itinerary. This tour which involves a 35 minute
flight from Aswan can be added to any visit at additional cost. To complete a well
balanced visit to Egypt, a minimum of 3 or 4 nights should be spent in Cairo.

Chapter 1: Nile cruise vs Dahabiya

What is The Difference Between MS Nile Cruise And Dahabiya?

In Egypt, there are mainly three types of ships and boats that sail down the Nile
and offer wonderful trips for tourists: Deluxe luxury ships, Dahabiya Ships and
Felucca ships The guest will also participate in many activities that are organized
in the Nile Cruise ships in the evenings usually including oriental shows with
Tanoora belly dancers and costume parties where guests are encouraged to wear
their favorite Egyptian dresses and participate together in games and competitions.

Types of touristic ships that sail down the Nile in Egypt In Egypt, there are mainly
three types of ships and boats that sail down the Nile and offer wonderful trips for
tourists:

Deluxe luxury ships

This is the most favorable and most common type of Nile Cruise ships that tourists
prefer to go on while they are in Egypt. These ships usually present the traveler
with all sorts of modern equipments and facilities that he can ever imagine
including: a swimming pool, international standard resultant, bar and sundeck, laundry
and dry cleaning services, internet, shops and boutiques, music system, television, best
equipped cabins with private toilets with hot water, ultra violet water treatment, fineness
center.

Today, there are a diverse variety of luxurious ships with a wide range of prices
covering all the needs and requirements of different travelers visiting Egypt and
wishing to enjoy a Nile Cruise ride.

All these ships have a wonderful planned program for their guests that include time
for excursions, fun activities, parties, and some time for the guests to enjoy on their
own relaxing on the sundeck watching the ship sail down the Nile and visiting the
cities that the ship passes by.

Dahabiya Ships
The Dahabeya ship is the best choice for travelers who wish to sail down the Nile
in an elegant different style.

Dahabeya or the golden ships started being famous sailing down the Nile in Egypt
during the reign of the royals in 1920s to 1940s. The members of the royal family
of Egypt and members from the high class of the society used to rent, or own,
these magnificently designed ships for weeks to enjoy visiting the Pharaonic
monuments located near the Nile banks and to enjoy sailing down the Nile in a
luxurious matchless style. These boats usually consisted of only 5 to 10 cabins,
restrooms, and some rooms for servants.

9

In the beginning of the 21st century, these marvelous historical Nile cruise ships
were revived to offer travelers visiting Egypt a unique chance to sail down the Nile
in an old fashioned royal ship that is, in the same time, equipped with all facilities
and options, making the Dahabeya, the wonderful choice for all the family

members belonging to different age groups. There are many advantages sailing

down the Nile in a Dahabeya Ship. The first advantage is that the Dahabeya only
hosts from 12 to 25 people maximum and this means you will visit the temples in
the right time and explor the wonders of the Nubian villages. Large Nile Cruise
ships usually sail very fast down the Nile preventing the passengers from enjoying
the romantic magic of the Nile, while the Dahabeya gives a matchless chance for
travelers to enjoy sailing down the Nile like kings and queens in the beginning of
the previous century. Furthermore, the Dahabeya ships contain all sorts of
facilities a traveler might think of. The cabins are comfy and luxuriously designed
and furnished. This is besides the fact that the ship, and all the rooms and cabins
inside it, are wheelchair accessible.

Another super advantage is that since the Dahabeya ships are much smaller than
other Nile cruises sailing down the Nile, it enables the traveler to visit temples and
monuments located on the Nile Banks that are never accessible by larger ships.

Felucca ships
A felucca is the traditional boat that Egyptians have used to sail down the Nile
since ancient times and they are still in fact using them until today as a mean of
transportation and leisure trips as well.

nilecruised.com contactus@nilecruised.com+201201421551+201002759668
10

A felucca a small boat that is semi rectangular shaped and made out of wood with
a curved bottom to facilitate its movement in water. It is also sometimes
manufactured using iron or rubber for certain causes and most of these boats
include a motor to be used in cases of emergencies.

There are many Felucca boats that can be rented in Cairo for a wonderful short trip
sailing down the Nile and viewing Cairo at sunset. Felucca would also be a fine
choice for friends or family gathering, a romantic evening, and even having a nice
meal while sailing down the Nile.

In the past few years, tourists have started using Felucca ships to go on Nile
Cruises between Luxor and Aswan in a distinctive style. They would spend the day
chatting, relaxing, and chilling out watching the most remarkable scenery of the
Egyptian peasant life and green cultivated fields.

They would enjoy typical traditional food that is presented to them on board of the
Felucca. Tourists also have the chance to visit many monuments and attractions
while they are on a Felucca boat. At night, the Felucca would be wonderfully
equipped to enable the guests to sleep under the stars watching the stars before
they sleep.

Many facilities have been added to the Felucca boats in order to accommodate
travelers for two or three days. This includes sleeping bags, a safe mean of waste
disposal, and many safety measures.

A number of tourists who got bored from the modern equipped ships prefer going
on a Felucca boat to enjoy the simplicity of the trip and feel they have gone
thousands of years in the past sailing down the Nile in the style ancient Egyptians
used to do.

Chapter 2 : Main Five stops.

In-the-know travelers are seizing the opportunity to visit Egypt’s famous
tombs and temples while there are no crowds – and the best way to do it is by
following the mighty River Nile on a cruise.

Taking a cruise on the Nile is a time-honored way to explore Egypt. For

centuries, travelers have sailed stretches of the world’s longest river, finding
the unexpected sights of river life every bit as thrilling as the tombs and
temples on the schedule. Nothing is predictable here. One minute you might
be admiring a lone fisherman rowing slowly home, oars cutting cleanly into
the water. The next a couple of rogue teenagers have pulled their speedboat
up against your cruise ship and are tossing bags of scarves – and a bit of
cheeky banter – through your window in the hope of making a sale.

Sometimes on deck at dawn, the breeze feels fresh and clean and everything is
wet, from the dewy handrails to shining green foliage on the riverbanks. On

nilecruised.com contactus@nilecruised.com+201201421551+201002759668
12

other mornings, all you can see are dry, yellow hills and the air is hot and
heavy with dust. And then there are the daily glimpses of men sitting on
plastic chairs in the blazing sun, enjoying their morning tea and shisha pipes,
bougainvillea flowers, sugarcane and wheat fields, family-run farms, mud
huts, kids waving as the boats go by, an illuminated minaret in dusk light –
this is the Egypt that’s not on the itinerary, but would be worth taking a cruise
for alone.

But of course that's just the start of the experience. From the vivid artwork
inside Valley of the Kings’ tombs to the perfectly carved hieroglyphics at Luxor
Temple, all the key tour stops between Luxor and Aswan are within a short
drive of the Nile’s banks. A few years ago, these sights were constantly
surrounded by busloads of tourists, but because of Egypt's political turmoil,
many are now all but deserted. There is a visible armed security presence,
which some travelers may find disconcerting, but the UK's Foreign and
Commonwealth Office (FCO) considers it safe to travel through this stretch of

nilecruised.com contactus@nilecruised.com+201201421551+201002759668
13

the Nile (see below for more information). In fact not only is it a valuable time
to visit in terms of helping Egypt get back on its feet, but the lack of crowds at
these epic monuments mean it's also incredibly rewarding. Here are five of
the best places to visit on a Nile cruise.

Karnak Temple

Most cruises begin at Luxor, so one of your first ports of call is probably going
to be Karnak Temple. And what a place to start. A forest of intricately carved
pillars, obelisks and walls, the sheer scale of this ancient temple complex gives
a shivers-down-your-spine sense of timeless power. The main area was
thought of as the earthly home of Egyptian sun god Amun-Re, and the temple
here is the largest religious building ever built. Ancient Egyptian artists were
big on natural symbolism, and you’ll see examples of this in almost all the sites
you visit. Karnak has some particularly intriguing examples – the 134 columns
in the hypostyle hall represent palm trees, the floor represents the River Nile,

nilecruised.com contactus@nilecruised.com+201201421551+201002759668
14

pylons symbolise mountains and the ceiling shows Egypt’s skies, full of stars
at night.

Luxor Temple

The other major temple in Luxor is also primarily dedicated to Amun-Re,

along with gods Mut and Khonsu (known as the Theban triad). At the entrance
sit two enormous seated figures of Ramses II, one of the last pharaohs to have
work done on this temple. One of the highlights of a visit to this temple is the
chance to take a close look at the beautiful carvings of people clapping,
beating drums, dancing and performing acrobatics, while boats are carried to
the Nile under the shouted instructions of captains – the energy of these
scenes practically bounces off the walls. There’s evidence of four religions
here, left behind from different eras in the site’s long history. The temple itself
was dedicated to Ancient Egyptian gods. In one corner, there are the remains
of frescoes, belonging to the Roman Imperial cult. Islam is also represented, as
Abu El Haggag mosque sits on top of part of the temple’s ruins. Finally, Coptic

15

Christians once had a church here, and the remains of some pillars can still be
seen in the Temple of Montu.

Valley of the Kings

You’ve probably been reading about the tomb of boy pharaoh Tutankhamen
and its stash of hidden treasures in the Valley of the Kings since your primary
school days. Here’s your chance to see the actual chamber for yourself. You
can also visit the recently opened replica nearby, which was launched to
mitigate some of the damage that mass tourism is doing to the original, and
has been getting rave reviews for its detail and authentic feel. Move on to the
grand chambers where Ramses IX, Ramses II, Merenptah and many more
were buried, to admire the hieroglyphics and intriguing scenes carved into the
walls. Many of the Ancient Egyptian temples in the region have just the
smallest flecks of paintwork left, so it’s almost a shock to see how bright the
paintings are inside the tombs, where they have been hidden from the sun for
so many years. Bright paint was made from chalk, charcoal, ochre and
nilecruised.com contactus@nilecruised.com+201201421551+201002759668
16

malachite, mixed with egg white and gum and then brushed with beeswax to
varnish and protect it. And protect it did: the birds, snakes, boats and many
other symbols here are still in such popping shades of red, yellow, blue and
white that they look as if they were daubed just yesterday.

Temple of Edfu

This huge temple in Edfu is dedicated to Horus, the Falcon God, and you’ll see
the image of a man with a falcon’s head representing him throughout the
temple. Falcons were worshipped because they don’t eat dead flesh, so they
were considered noble. It’s one of the best preserved temples in Egypt, with
antechambers and halls to explore, as well as the inner sanctuary, which still
contains the polished-granite shrine that once housed the gold cult statue of
Horus. Don’t be tempted to rush through the courtyard to get to the temple, as
there’s so much to see here, particularly the wall carvings. Notice the sails of
the boats, which are pictured rolled up if they face in the direction of the Nile's

flow, and open in the other direction. Once, this space was the only part of the
site members of the public were allowed visit. During the the day it was so
bright outside that they couldn't see what was happening inside the temple,
which only the privileged few had access to.

Kom Ombo

A Nile cruise just wouldn’t be complete without paying homage to the

crocodiles. Do as the Ancient Egyptians did and pay your respects at Kom
Ombo, a double temple that's devoted half to Horus and half to crocodile god
Sobek. This stretch of the river used to be infested with vicious crocs,
preventing locals from using the water to wash or cook – this temple was a
way of placating them. There’s two of everything from courts and halls to
sanctuaries rooms in this temple to show one god wasn’t favored more than
the other.

treasures. As visitors walk through the complex of temples, pharaohs arise to tell the story of
their interesting lives, as haunting music mysteriously flows through this ancient city. Ancient
and poetic voices tell the visitors about the birth of Karnak temple and the heroic achievements
of pharaohs and god Amun. It is an enchanting and supernatural experience to listen to sound
effects and gaze at the magnificent ruins illuminated during the well-presented show.

It is one of the most important temples of the city of Luxor; its construction started in the reign
of King Seti I, and was completed during the reign of King Ramses II. It is located three
kilometers to the north of Luxor temple. it eas built for the worship of the sacred trinity of
Tehbes, Amoun-Re, his Wife, Moot, and son.
It is considered the largest temples of the ancient world. Its construction began in the reign of the
central state, about 2000 BC. At that time, it was not built at that level of magnitude, however, in
the modern state, to which King Tut Ankh Amun and King Ramsis are affiliated; a magnificent
temple was built on the ruins of this temple that embodied the magnitude of the Egyptian vast
empire. During the following dynasties, each king added more to the temple as in adulation to
gods and out of desire of getting popularity among the members of the people.

Useful Information

The Monument
The Temple of Karnak itself is actually made up of three main temples, several smaller walled
temples and a large sacred lake. The three main temples are dedicated to Amun, his goddess wife
Mut, and the god Montu. The museum contains a collection of statuary that was found
throughout the temple complex.
Karnak Temple is reached by a grand avenue lined on each side with ram-headed sphinxes,
originally nearly two miles long. Visitors then pass through the massive Hypostyle Hall, famous
for its rows and rows of columns. The paint at the tops of the columns can still be seen today,
thousands of years after it was applied by the careful brush of an ancient Egyptian painter.
This room is 54,000 square feet and has 134 columns, and to this day it is the largest room of any
of the world’s religious buildings. Queen Hatshepsut, who challenged ancient Egyptian history
by becoming the first female pharaoh, was aware of how important Karnak was, and she had her
thoughts inscribed on a towering obelisk: ‘O ye people who see this monument in years to come
and speak of that which I have made, beware lest you say, ‘I know not why it was done’. I did it
because I wished to make a gift for my father Amun, and to gild them with electrum.

Karnak Temple Sound And Light Show Information

Referred to as the world’s largest open air museum, Luxor, known as Thebes in ancient times, is
home to some of the most spectacular monuments of the ancient world, Perhaps one of the most
astounding areas in Luxor is the temple complex of Karnak. The largest temple complex ever
built by man, Karnak represents the combined achievement of many generations of ancient
builders.
Passing through the gates of Luxor, every visitor is astounded by the expansive city made
immortal by its gigantic monuments. Though much of Luxor and Karnak are in ruins, the site

nilecruised.com contactus@nilecruised.com+201201421551+201002759668
31

remains one of the crown achievements of ancient Egypt. The massive columns of Karnak once
supported heavy ceilings, but today they are open to the sky. With a little imagination, the
visitors of today can be transported back in time to the days of the pharaohs. Over a period of
1300 years, the temples built at Karnak became an entire city of monuments.

What The Budget Of This Tour?

Dear Clients please knows that the tour price cover the services stated in the “Inclusions” section

What You Needs?: Camera and a supply of film

What Should I Wear?

Please dress casually – jeans and flat heeled shoes. Although we usually land close to a road, you
may be walking through fields. It is no colder in the balloon than on the ground, yet you may
wish to bring a light jacket. Layered clothing is best

Where I Will Fly?

The Hot Air Balloon crew studies the prevailing winds at different elevations and selects a take-
off site that will provide the best flight-path possible. The pilot ascends and descends to find air
currents that are moving in the desired direction. Balloons can only travel with the wind, but our
skilled pilots direct the balloon throughout the flight and it often appears as if the balloon was
steered!

What Does It Feel Like During The Flight?

Once aloft you will not notice turbulence or wind as you become one with the air currents. The
basket hangs motionless in the air-mass in which it is suspended. In the calm conditions in which
we fly there is nothing that can make the basket sway and the sense of movement is much more
subtle than an elevator ride. The feeling is one of peace as we drift over treetops and float over
the countryside. Vertigo is almost never experienced and we are always happy to accommodate
our passengers if they prefer low altitude flights. Some passengers describe the sensation they
feel on our flights as “tranquil” and “romantic” while others describe the flight as “gentle and
calm.

Do Passengers Sit Or Stand During The Flight?

Passengers normally stand in the basket during flights; however the Hot Air Balloon Crew can
accommodate those passengers who need to be seated.

When Do We Fly?

nilecruised.com contactus@nilecruised.com+201201421551+201002759668
34

We fly early in the morning because this time of day provides calm, cool air for gentle and stable
flights, soft landings and maximum lifting capacity of the balloon. It is also the ideal time for
photography, with splendid colours and contrasts and the beauty of the sunrise. What About
Weather Conditions?
Before you fly, the Hot Air Balloon crew checks the weather. We can generally fly with wind
speeds up to 10 miles per hour.

Do We Fly If It’s Raining?

Light rain is not a problem when the wind conditions are stable, although we would not schedule
a flight when rain was anticipated as it would add considerable weight to the fabric. Often rain
can be associated with instability and unpredictable winds which is actually more disturbing to
us as the volume of the balloon is so great. Cloudy conditions often give some of the best
conditions for flying although the photographer might be disappointed.

Is It Safe?
Balloon flight is as safe as traveling on an airliner operated by one of the world’s major carriers.
The technical systems are very simple and there is almost nothing that can go wrong. Many
people who don’t like the claustrophobia of an airplane feel very comfortable in the balloon
basket.

Philae Temple Sound And Light Show In Aswan

Tour Highlight
At each Philae Sound and Light show, the Egyptian gods and goddesses are, like Osiris,
resurrected before our eyes to tell us their life stories. The myth of Isis and Osiris comes to life
through dazzling lights and capturing music, with sounds from the deepest bottoms of ancient
history. This show brings history and the past to life, making you feel the temple alive around
you; the myth is resurrected. The presents the myth of Osiris, the goddess of death and his
beloved wife Isis, who resurrected her husband using life rituals after being killed by his brother,
Set, the God of Evil in ancient Egypt.

The name Philae comes from the ancient Egyptian word Pilak, which means “the remote place.”
A large number of temples were constructed on the island of “Philae”, perhaps the oldest of these
temples is dating back to the reign of King Thutmose III (1490-1436 BC). In the fourth century
BC, King “Nectanebo” (378-341 BC) built a giant temple, then “Ptolemy Veladlv”, third century
BC, built his great temple, and then followed by many of the Ptolemaic kings and Roman rulers;
the most famous of it is the “bed of the Pharaoh.”

The Monument

Philae Temple Sound And Light Show Information

When Amelia Edwards, the famous British travel writer, first visited Philae in 1873, her
captivating words about the experience still apply today: “The approach by water is quite the
most beautiful. Seen from the level of a small boat, the island, with its palms, its colonnades, its

pylons, seems to rise out of the river like a mirage. Piled rocks frame it on either side, or the
purple mountains close up the distance. As the boat glides nearer between glistening boulders,
those sculptured towers rise higher and even higher against the sky. All looks solid, stately,
perfect. One forgets for the moment that anything is changed. If a sound of antique chanting
were to be borne along the quiet air, if a procession of white-robed priests bearing aloft the
veiled ark of the God, were to come sweeping round between the palms and pylons, we should
not think it strange.”

Chapter Seven: Food &Beverages

What Does The Meals Includes In My Nile Cruise Trip?

There are two types of Nile Cruise Package which are:

Nile Cruises on Full Board Basis:

The Majority of Nile Cruises are on Full Board Basis. All meals are included and are in an open buffet style (Or Set
Menu in Some Cruises), some days there are many varieties, depending of the type and quality of the cruise boat;
these meals are served with a fixed timetable. In Some Cruises, Tea and coffee is available, while on the move,
every day at 5:00 pm. Other drinks are offered in the bar area.

Nile Cruises on All Inclusive Basis:

Very Few Nile Cruises are on All Inclusive Basis (Very Expensive, For 7 Nights Only). All Inclusive includes Full
Board Basis and All Beverage such as Mineral Water, Soft Drink, Hot Drink, Coffee, Tea, Juice, Local Alcoholics (By
Glass) etc..

Food, snaks and beverages on the ship will be relatively costly compared to those
charged in local shops and markets but in most cases, not prohibitively so. If you
mean an AI package for just water and non-alcoholic drinks, then I don't you're
likely to find such an option. You can always buy some water and a few soft drinks
locally and bring them on the ship.

nilecruised.com contactus@nilecruised.com+201201421551+201002759668
45

As a rough example our boat was charging about £120 for all inc drinks. Although
not a big drinker i had wine lager or coke with each meal, generally had a drink by
the pool each day and bought water most days, my bill for the week was about £50.

Its not worth buying the boats drinks package unless you're a very heavy
beer/wine/spirits drinker. At pretty much every port of call to visit a site there will
be vendors selling bottles of water and soft drinks very cheaply and as has been
said, you can bring those on board. Many of the trips from the boat will be in a
mini bus or coach and you'll often be offered small bottles of water for the drive.
The drinks on board the boat are relatively expensive compared to the local shops,
but you're not going to break the bank. Have a great trip!

On the Sonesta St George last November it was 18le for a large bottle of water,
23le for cans of soft drink, and 30le for fresh orange juice. My bill for drinks was
around 350le for a week. It might be a bit more now but will probably work out
cheaper because of the exchange rate.

I noticed that even though the exchange rate is in our favour the prices havent
changed so they areare less than half what they were

Chapter Nine: Transportation

The Nile River was the highway that joined the country together. Up until the nineteenth
century, travel by land was virtually unknown. Ships and boats were the main means of
transporting people and goods around the country. Egyptian watercraft had a high stern
and bow, and by the New Kingdom, they were equipped with cabins at both ends. The
prevailing winds blew south, propelling boats travelling in that direction, while boats
heading north relied on the current and oars.

The simplest type of boat used in ancient Egypt was the skiff, made from papyrus reeds
that were tied together. Since the reeds are filled with air pockets, they are particularly
buoyant. Skiffs were used for fishing and hunting game in the marshes, or for travelling
short distances.

Large wooden ships were equipped with square sails and oars. Their planks, held together
with rope, expanded in the water, making the vessel watertight. Acacia wood was used in
Lower Nubia to build the ships that transported massive blocks of stone from the Aswan
district to the building sites of the pyramids, temples and cities along the Nile. Ships
could travel with ease up and down the Nile from the delta region to the First Cataract at
Aswan.

Replica of a model barge found Tutankhamun's royal ship

in Tutankhamun's tomb

64

Boats also served a ceremonial purpose. They were used to move images of gods from
temple to temple, and to transport the mummified bodies of royals and nobles across the
Nile to their tombs on the west bank. Even the sun god travelled by boat (the solar bark)
on his daily journey across the sky. Today, the Egyptians still cross the Nile by boat. The
vessel they use is the fellucca, a small boat with a large triangular sail. The roads in
ancient Egypt were little more than paths. To get around on land, people walked, rode
donkeys or travelled by wagon.

They carried goods on their head, but the donkeys and wagons hauled heavier
loads. Camels were almost unknown in Egypt until the end of the pharaonic period. The
wheel was probably introduced into Egypt by the Hyksos, an Asiatic people who invaded
the country and ruled it in the fifteenth and sixteenth dynasties. The Hyksos most likely
had horse-drawn chariots, which were used in warfare. New Kingdom pharaohs and
nobles adopted this mode of transportation for hunting expeditions, but it was not used
for travel by the common people.

more expensive than land transport.

Air Travel:
Domestic services are maintained by Egypt Air from Cairo to Luxor and Aswan several
times daily. Other cities or areas, e.g. Sinai, have less frequent services.

Railways:
A timetable for mainline trains is published every six months, obtainable from main
stations. There are three classes of carriage. The 1st and 2nd classes may be air-
conditioned. The diesel to Aswan, stopping only at Luxor, has special deluxe carriages
and sleeping cars, all air-conditioned. Students are entitled to reduced tickets with an
International students’ card. Mainline trains run from Cairo to Aswan via Luxor;
Alexandria via Tanta; Suez; Ismalia; Damietta via Mansurah; Sallum via Marsu Mutruh.

Roads:
The major cities are connected by roads which for the most part me well-metalled. But in
other areas certain sections can suddenly become rutted or disintegrate. The secondary
roads are often quite good but the tracks leading from them can often take the motorist
into trouble with loose sand, mud or gravel. All the roads in Egypt have two great
advantages: the ground is for the most part flat and the nature of the terrain makes
possible long straight stretches.

A sharp lookout should be kept in rural districts for ‘sleeping policemen’ (speed humps)
illegally laid across the road by villagers. They can devastate the suspension of a car.At
regular intervals outside Cairo the driver will often encounter a police post (taftish) and
should be prepared to show documents including passport and license

Buses:
Trams and buses serve the capital, run by the government companies (Governmental

nilecruised.com contactus@nilecruised.com+201201421551+201002759668
66

Transport Organization), and (Greater Cairo Autobus Co) from about 05.30 to 01.00
daily. They are frequent but well patronized to the point of bursting and during rush hours
it is often a case of entering where a space can be found—speed is essential. The number
of the bus and the destination is written in Arabic on the front in the space above the
driver.

The fare is taken by the conductor (kumsari) who passes among the passengers. Smoking
is forbidden in any of these buses. LONG DISTANCE BUSES are divided among five
companies and each serves a separate area of the country. (Eastern Delta) serves the
Canal area, Mansurah and Damietta; (Middle Delta) to Kafr al-Shaykh and Manufiyyah,
Tanta; (West¬ern Delta) to Damanhur, Alexandria; the NW coast and Siwah; (Southern
areas), all areas in the Nile Valley and along the Red Sea Coast, and (Sinai Buses
Company) serving all areas of Sinai. Each has its own terminal and booking office in the
North suburbs of Cairo.

There are three types of bus: the stopping bus calling at every station; the inter city with
fewer stops, and the reserved express or deluxe. Standards of comfort are reasonable, the
last class with air-conditioning but the others rely on open windows which of course let
in the dust. There are now services bypassing Cairo which link the major cities.

Taxis:
Hailed by calling ‘tax’ and a raised hand, are numerous in the main cities. However there
are ranks outside all the main hotels, monitored by the police. The meter is attached to the
front of the dashboard and the rate fixed by the government; this also applies to journeys
outside the capital. There is a government run Limousine Misr service operating around
the clock. A little more expen¬sive but more certain, it can be contacted by telephone on
Cairo 2599813. It will also provide a service to take the visitor outside Cairo.

Self drive cars:

It is another kind of transport which called Self Driver Cars which need International
Driver’s License. It can be hired through the hotel or tourist agencies, the tariff depending
on the type of car.

Carriages:

Carriages are a delightful way of seeing provincial cities and visiting outlying cities.
Their ranks are usually found close to the station and the drivers often know the area
better than taxi-drivers; another advantage is that although slower, they can often travel
where the taxi cannot.

Chapter eleven: Nile Cruise tips

Every river has a story to tell, and the Nile is no exception. Sail its waters on a blissful
river cruise, and you'll see ancient landscapes that have changed little since pharaohs
ruled the land. Boys bathe their donkeys in the river, farmers tend their land with hoes,
and families live along the banks in traditional mud brick houses, just as they have done
for 5,000 years.

Huge ocean liners and modern pleasure crafts have no place on the slow-paced Nile.
Instead, the waterways are graced with traditional feluccas and the sailing vessels used to
ferry tourists around. More than 280 ships are moored in the waters between Luxor and
Aswan, the site of the nation's best-preserved monuments. Cruising is the easiest way for
tourists to engage the Nile and the famous temples and tombs that straddle it: Luxor,
Karnak, Kom Ombo, Edfu, Dendera, and the Valley of the Queens and Valley of the
Kings.

River cruise ships were limited to touring Luxor and Aswan as a result of security
concerns that followed a terrorist attack at a temple near Luxor in 1997. But they are now
open for business, though a heavy security presence remains part and parcel of the region.
There have been no terrorist incidents along the Nile in more than a decade (although that
cannot be said for the rest of the country.)

The mighty Nile runs 4,184 miles in length and winds through nine nations, from Lake
Victoria in Uganda to the Mediterranean Sea near Alexandria, Egypt. Unlike most rivers,
it flows south to north. It doesn't take more than a quick look to appreciate its value.
Against its banks lies the nation's breadbasket: fields of corn, alfalfa, wheat, sugar cane
and sesame. That constant throb you hear, like a heartbeat, is the sound of irrigation
pumps. Not surprisingly, agriculture is the region's second-largest industry, after tourism.
Move away from the Nile, and all that is left is desert.

Historically, the Nile has had three seasons: flooding, farming and harvesting. Since the
Aswan High Dam opened in 1971, the river depth has been regulated, depending on the
needs of navigation and irrigation.

Today, Nile river cruises, lasting three to seven nights, are a component of most package
tours to Egypt.

Best Time for Nile River Cruises

The best time to go on a Nile cruise is between October and April. It's not too hot, which
is important since you'll be hopping on and off to visit temples along the way. The heat in
Aswan and Luxor is intense, and it's not recommended that you travel during the peak
summer months from June through August. The average temperatures hover over the 100
F (40 C) mark, and it's even hotter when you're inside some of the tombs. Plus, there's not
a lot of shade around.

Nile River Cruise Lines

Although the river boats that cruise the Nile tend not to vary in size, there is a fair amount
of variation in quality. While several river cruise lines have ships in the region, they don't
always offer the itineraries, depending on interest.

Nile River Itineraries

You can choose from a few basic itineraries along the Nile.

At a Glance: This three-night cruise usually departs from Aswan and sails to Luxor. You
will visit the High Dam, the Unfinished Obelisk and the Temple of Philae in Aswan
before docking at Kom Ombo, Edfu and Esna and reaching Luxor. There you'll visit the
west bank to see the Valley of the Kings, the Valley of the Queens and the Temple of
Queen Hatshepsut.

Mid-length: A slightly longer four-night option leaves from Luxor and sails to Aswan.
You will see all of the above, and also visit Luxor and Karnak temples, take a felucca
ride to the Botanical Island or a Nubian village, and see Elephantine Island and the
Tombs of the Nobles. For those who would like to extend their stay to see Abu Simbel,
this is the cruise for you.

Weeklong Trip: You can also do a seven-night trip, either from Luxor to Aswan or
Aswan to Luxor. This itinerary includes all of the above, but it's divided over a week for
a more relaxing trip.

Nile River Cruise Port Highlights

Valley of the Kings: In ancient times, when a man became King, the first order he gave
was "Make my tomb!" So it's no surprise that the tombs at the Valley of the Kings,
constructed at some point during Egypt's New Kingdom period (3,500 to 3,100 years
ago) are eye-poppingly impressive -- and that's after all the finery was stolen by
opportunistic gravediggers. The standard admission ticket buys you entry to three of 63
tombs. Ask your guide for recommendations of the best ones to see.

You can also pay extra to visit Tutankhamen's tomb. Although the treasures buried with
King Tut are displayed at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, the tomb provides a glimpse of
what is left of Egypt's most famous icon, the teenage king whose death remains a
mystery. Inside, there is a sarcophagus, with mask in place; painted walls showing his
beautiful sisters and 11 baboons; and a mummy with a sunken brown face and each toe
intact. Seeing it adds real flesh and bone to the murals and finery in the other tombs.

Karnak Temple: This is the largest place of worship in the world. It took 1,300 years to
build this 42-acre temple, and you can see the one-upmanship between a succession of
pharaohs as you wander through it. The bigger and more elaborate the temple, the more
religious and, thus, more popular the king. The farther you step into a temple, the farther
nilecruised.com contactus@nilecruised.com+201201421551+201002759668
80

back you go in time. Look out for the statue of one of sun God Ra's incarnations -- a
scarab beetle -- which symbolizes eternal life. Supposedly, if you walk around this bug
three times, you're granted health, wealth and many children.

Philae Temple: Built to honor the Goddess of motherhood, Isis, this was the last ancient
temple built in the classical Egyptian architectural style. Construction began in
approximately 690 B.C. The temple was moved from its original location on Philae
Island to its new location on Agilkia Island after the flooding of Lake Nasser. Don't miss
the Sound and Light show at night, which is much less tacky than Giza's pyramid
offering. Note also the reuse of the temple as a Christian church, with crosses carved into
the older hieroglyph reliefs and images of the Egyptian gods carefully defaced. You'll
also spot graffiti dating from the 1800's.

Luxor Temple: Above the upper part of Luxor temple is a sacred mosque, built before
the sand was swept away, and on the outer walls you can faintly make out a painting of
the last supper among the hieroglyphics, from a time when Christians were banned by the
Romans from building churches. It's easy to spot Mani, the Egyptian god of fertility. He
stands proudly displaying his, ahem, equipment. Interestingly, the carving is darkened in
a certain area, where women hoping to become pregnant have eagerly stroked it!

Edfu Temple: Dedicated to Horus, the bird God of protection, Edfu is a Ptolemaic
temple built in classic pharonic style (237 to 57 B.C.) and is one of the best-preserved
temples in Egypt. Start with the first pylon with its two magnificent falcons, and admire
the carvings inside that illustrate the Festival of the Beautiful Meeting, in which the
statue of Horus joined the statue of Hathor at her temple in Dendera.

Kom Ombo: Dedicated to the gods Sobek (the crocodile god) and Haroeris (the winged
god of medicine and one of the oldest incarnations of Horus), Kom Ombo temple is
known for its wall reliefs, which show ancient surgical and dental tools. You can also see
ancient crocodile mummies in The Crocodile Museum.

Nile River Cruise Tips

Extending Your Trip: The city of Cairo is not usually part of the cruise itinerary, but
many tour operators build in pre- or post-cruise stays in the city. Cairo can be fairly
frenetic, so perhaps stay in Cairo before you board your cruise, and visit the Great
Pyramids of Giza, the Egyptian Museum and the bustling Khan el Khalli bazaar, and
enjoy your leisurely cruise afterwards. You can also add on a relaxing break in the sun on
the Red Sea after your cruise.

nilecruised.com contactus@nilecruised.com+201201421551+201002759668
81

Most cruise lines will offer an add-on excursion from Aswan or Luxor to Abu Simbel
http://en.egypt.travel/city/index/abu-simbel, arguably the most evocative of all the
ancient Egyptian relics. Archaeologists say the sheer scale of the statues in the Great
Temple was meant to scare potential enemies as they traveled down the Nile from more
southerly parts of Africa.

What to Pack: Don't forget bug spray, tissues, a small flashlight, a hand fan, binoculars,
hand cleanser, sun screen, a hat and anti-diarrhea medicine. Take sensible walking shoes;
the surfaces at the monuments can be hilly and sandy, and a lot involve steps or uneven
stone flooring that date back centuries. For more packing tips.

Dress Code: Dress not just for the heat, but for the culture. This is a conservative,
Muslim culture and should be respected accordingly. Women should refrain from
wearing short shorts, see-through clothing or swimwear when on shore excursions. In
mosques, for example, women and men should wear clothing that covers both their legs
and upper arms.

Money Matters: Always carry small denominations of the local currency, the Egyptian
pound. It's customary to tip toilet attendants, and if you don't have change, you may be
denied use of the facility. While U.S. dollars and other "hard" currencies are generally
accepted, you can change money at the visa offices in the airport arrival hall. Keep in
mind that paper money gets very tattered and torn, especially the smaller notes, and may
be refused.

Shipboard Life: Don't expect glitz like casinos or Broadway-style shows on a Nile River
cruise. Dining is typically a buffet affair for breakfast and lunch, with a sampling of
entrees served at dinner. Ships will often host a djellabaparty, with passengers dressing
up at dinner in traditional Egyptian robes (which you can buy at one of the local markets
during your port stops), and other entertainment includes belly-dancers and performances
by Nubian dance troupes. Be prepared to get involved! The top deck is the place to
sunbathe, read, take a dip, enjoy a beverage and ponder the view -- get in quick to book a
"dinner under the stars" with your cruise companions. The ships do have lounges where
port talks, lectures and crew shows are staged. Of course, there is also bar service, but,
due to a high alcohol tax, drinks can be expensive and are not usually included with
dinner.

Health Issues: Tour operators recommend that passengers not drink the water onboard,
even on luxury ships, but bottled water is provided. If you think you will want extra
water, it's a good idea to stock up on bottled water and soda from local merchants. You

nilecruised.com contactus@nilecruised.com+201201421551+201002759668
82

should also carry a water bottle with you on shore excursions, as it is easy to become
dehydrated due to the heat. Also, avoid raw vegetables, peel fruits before eating them,
and don't swim in the Nile or its canals because of the risk of exposure to bacterial and
other infections.

Bargaining Rules: In this economy, just about everything is negotiable. This is

especially true with the vendors, who sell all manner of souvenirs near the monuments'
docks. Their pitches seem benign enough, but they can be aggressive once they have your
attention. A general rule of thumb: Offer half the asking price to start, and don't hand
over any money until your purchase price has been settled and the item is in your hand.
Also, take care to study your change. Pound notes and the much smaller piaster notes
look similar. A good word to learn is la, which means no.

For most people planning a trip to Egypt, a Nile cruise is the centerpiece of their
itinerary. A Nile cruise evokes images of romance, Agatha Christie novels, and jaw-
dropping monuments and temples of ancient Egypt. The travel brochures show gorgeous
images of feluccas sailing on the river, and farmers sowing their crops along the river
banks; scenes apparently unchanged over thousands of years. In Victorian times a Nile
cruise used to be the only way to see some of Egypt's most outstanding ancient temples.

These days there are more options for tourists, although cruising is certainly popular.
With more than 200 cruise boats on the Nile it gets busy, there are lines to get through the
locks and most boats arrive at each temple around roughly the same time. Read on for
tips and information to help you decide whether to take a Nile cruise or not, when you
visit Egypt.

Nile Cruise Basic Overview

A typical Nile cruise will start in Luxor and include the popular sites of Dendera, Esna,
Edfu, and Kom Ombo before disembarking in Aswan. Some tours fly direct to Aswan (or
you can take a train) and work their way north down the Nile to the same sights. Most
cruises will last at least 4 nights. The best time to go is from October to April when it's
not unbearably hot, and some of the locks are deactivated. See more about Best time to
travel to Egypt)

There are many boats to choose from (more than 200 during peak season) and your
budget will determine how luxurious your trip can be.

The more luxurious cabins will be large, have AC, a private bathroom and a TV which
can cost up to $300 a night. Most cruise ships will have nightly entertainment on board;

nilecruised.com contactus@nilecruised.com+201201421551+201002759668
83

this may include shows with belly dancers, whirling dervishes, and Nubian dancers
(participation is encouraged). A "Disco Party", and a "dress like an Egyptian party"
(wearing gelabas) are also a popular.

Most cruise ships have a small swimming pool on board so you can cool down after a
morning of temple viewing in the sun.

The days start early to avoid the intense heat of the afternoon. An Egyptologist will
accompany you to the various temples and explain what you are seeing. Cruise ships tend
to be on a similar schedule so be prepared to cross over on other boats to get to land and
to share the sites with hundreds of others. Side trips to go hot-air ballooning, visit Abu
Simbel and Dendara (if not on the scheduled itinerary) are well worth it.

Some of the nicest luxury cruise ships include: The Oberoi Philae Nile Cruiser with 54
cabins, each with their private balconies for great views of the Nile banks. Abercrombie
& Kent's Sun Boat III has 14 luxuriously appointed cabins and 4 suites, decorated in an
art deco style. The boat is smaller than most other luxury cruisers on the Nile so you have
a more intimate experience.

If a floating hotel doesn't appeal to you, check out the traditional sailboats (felucca or
dahabiya) instead. This is how the Victorians sailed the Nile and it's a very eco-friendly
way to travel. For the budget traveler a Felucca is a great option, but can be basic.

You'll be sleeping on the deck and toilet facilities are minimal. For those who enjoy
luxury but like the idea of a small sailboat, check out The Royal Cleopatra or the Sonesta
Dahabeya. Because Feluccas are smaller than a cruise ship they can dock at more sights
and offer a more exclusive experience.

Why Cruise the Nile?

A Nile cruise is special because you get to see these wonderful ancient temples and
monuments from the water. At night they are lit up and it's breathtaking to see.

A cruise is relaxing despite the early morning starts. It offers a lovely glimpse into rural
life from the comfort of your cabin. Egypt is a bustling, hustling place and to be able to
enjoy it from the tranquility of a boat, makes for a nice change of pace.

Arriving at the historical sites as part of a large group can make some people feel more
comfortable especially if there are lots of persistent hawkers around.

Most cruise ships will have a highly knowledgeable Egyptologist to guide you through
the sites which is important because it adds interest to what you are seeing, and after two
or three stops you'll be getting your Gods confused.

Why NOT to take a Nile Cruise

A Nile cruise takes up a good chunk of your Egypt vacation, especially if you only have
ten days or less. There is so much to see just in Luxor alone, a few extra days there and a
chance to visit Abu Simbel may be more rewarding.

You can see the sites on a typical cruise itinerary by land if you want to. There's a train
from Luxor to Aswan that is comfortable and takes just 3 hours. You can also hire a car
and stop off at Kom Ombo and Edfu along the way. Some of the best temples like
Dendara and Abydos are not even part of most cruise itineraries.

If you are a keen Archaeologist/Historian you'll certainly want to spend more time than a
cruise ship allows to visit every site. If you travel independently you can also time your
visits to avoid the cruise ships and tourist buses and get a more personal tour of the sites
with a private guide.

The nightly entertainment on board a cruise ship, dress parties, and belly dancing is not
everyone's idea of a good time. Nor is spending a week with other tourists on board the
most intimate way to experience Egypt.

Since cruise ships have to go through locks (usually April - June), there can be significant
delays and a lots of waiting in cruise ship queues. Similar clusters of ships can be found
at the main sites which is not ideal.

If you are traveling to Egypt with small children, a Nile cruise is not ideal, the temples
will bore them and there is not much to do on the boat.

Chapter Twelve: Nile cruise worth the money & time?

Assuming you mean a standard cruise between Luxor and Aswan, it's perfectly possible
to see everything you want to see in Upper Egypt without having to go on one and the
answer to your question comes down to whether you personally want the 'experience' or
not.

Some think of the cruise experience as more or less an end in itself while many see
crusing as not much more than a pleasant way to do a tour. Others could care less and just
buy packaged tours or hire cars/guides to visit the sites they want.

It might help to give you a more useful answer if you said what it is that you think you
might be missing if you decided not to go on a cruise?

Another well said and thought of answer by bbbeckett...as always sharing wisdom to help
others.

There are so many reasons why we chose a particular place to have holiday, what actions
to take and how we go about every plan to ensure we have less worry but more fun and
enjoyment.

Having recently done a 8D/7N Nile River Cruise with Sonesta St George last May
(2016)~ our Lake Nasser Cruise cancelled due to decline in Tourists booking with
Mövenpick , my husband and I have thoroughly enjoyed a relaxing and a bit luxurious
way of seeing the beautiful Ancient and historic sites and places in Egypt that will remain
in our Travelling Journal as one that's unique and memorable.

We were lucky to have only 13 passengers on our boat from Luxor to Aswan (4N) and 55
passengers on our way back from Aswan to Luxor (3N).

The purpose of our Travel is to

join a cruise to see and experience the River Nile in a relaxing manner, knowing that we
will be able to see several Temples of historical & architectural importance along the
way.

A fruit bowl and complementary water bottles on arrival.

Breakfast Lunch and dinner all included. However drinks were not included and are very
expensive.

Every room has a jacuzzi bath. The room is large enough to have 2 chairs with cofee
table and a large balcony window.Toiletries and clean towels with face washers were
included and changed daily.

With air-conditioned and very clean bedroom. King size bed that's clean & comfortable.

Our food is of high quality gourmet western food except 2 Galebeya dinners.

We were provided with our private English tour guide. There were only 4 of us in our
group.

We were taken to Luxor and Karnak Temples, Valley of the Kings and Queen
Hatchepsut's Temple, High Dam, Edfu Esna Philae Island Kom Ombo Temples and a
convoy day trip to Abu Simbel. We were given free time to explore on our own.

If this is close to what you want to experience then I highly recommend a River Cruise
for you. We were told that there are only 9 River Boats Cruising the Nile due to lack of
tourists.Used to be 100's before their Revolution.

Ask yourself if you really want to pay that extra luxury, as cruising is expensive. Given
that we out numbered the Ship's crew~we were given 5☆ pampering service 24/7.
Absolutely wicked and wonderful!

Ps. No wifi in our bedroom. Only in lounge areas and very expensive.

Ask yourself what really is important to you before embarking one of the important
decision of your life.

Happy holidays.

If your priority is to see sites then I would say skip the Nile cruise. The cruise ship is used
as a floating hotel in Luxor and Aswan. This means tied up against another cruise ship
with no view and to get off the ship you have to cross through one or more ships. This
may not be the case with the higher end ships but was the case when i did the cruise
many years ago.

Finding "Genuine" will leave you with seeing the temples between Luxor and Aswan by
either Felucca or diahabeya. These can stop at more sites then the cruise ships. The
Felucca is the least expensive option having you sleep on the deck and no bathroom on
board. The diahabeya will be the most expensive option and has private room with
bathroom.

My thought is unless you really want the cruise experience use the money to extend your
time in Egypt and see more sites. More time I feel trumps the cruise experience.

I agree with the others who say that you do the cruise if you want the cruise experience,
and I'm sure that is great if you have plenty of time to spend in Luxor and Aswan and do
the sightseeing.

The four days or so on the cruise can actually be driven in four hours or so by road,
excluding stops,,and everything you see on the cruise can be seen based in Luxor or
Aswan or on the road between them.

Chapter Thirteen:Nile Cruise Prices And Cost

Why There Is A Difference In Price Between Nile Cruises In The Same Category?

You can Notice that there is a Difference in Price between Nile Cruises in the Same
Category. For Example you can find a Deluxe Nile Cruise with the Rate of 75 US$ per
Person per Night and another Deluxe one with the Rate of 90 US$ Per Person per Night
in the Same Period of the Year.

The price that you pay is the result of Different Factors such as:

Cruise Brand Name:

If the Nile Cruise is managed by an International Hotels Chain, you have to know that
you pay extra money for the Brand Name. For Example Cruises Managed by Sonesta,
Abercrombie, Oberoi or TUI are more expensive than other similar Nile Cruises managed
by local operators.

Cruise Shape And Decoration:

Normally if the Nile Cruise is well decorated and maintained in a good shape make
people always want it as a first choice. This makes a large demand on the Cruise which
result to raise its price. Also Newly Built Nile Cruises are more expensive than Old Nile
Cruises.

89

Cabins Size:

In Egypt there are restrictions on the maximum size of a Nile Cruise. This is due because
the Nile Cruise must fit to Esna Lock on the Nile and if it is larger than the Lock Gate it
will never pass the Lock.

So as the Size of the Cruise has a limit, the space is divided on the number of cabins. For
Example if the space is 300 Square Meters per Deck and the Deck has 20 Cabins so the
Cabin size will be 15 Square Meter. If the Cruise decide to make only 10 Cabins per
Deck, the Cabin Size will be 30 Square Meter. As the Golden Rule Says “NOTHING IS
FREE”, Clients will pay the price of the two cabins not only one. They have to pay for
the extra space.

Chartered Cruises:

Some of Nile Cruises are fully or partially chartered to Tour Operators. However if the
Tour Operator didn’t fill all the cabins at a certain Period, the Cruise Management sell the

nilecruised.com contactus@nilecruised.com+201201421551+201002759668
90

Empty Cabins to Individuals but with a relatively high prices in order not to compete
with their Tour Operator.

Meals Included:

Most of Nile Cruises are on Full Board Basis. A very Few ones are on All Inclusive
Basis.

The Difference between Full Board and All Inclusive is that in All Inclusive Basis all
Beverages and Local Alcoholics are included in the price but in Full Board you pay for
Beverages as an Extra.

Tours Included:

We have the Option to sell Some Nile Cruises without Sightseeing in order to give the
clients the choice if they want to do the Tours with our company, do it by themselves or
not to do it at all. If this is the Case it will be clearly mentioned that the Cruise Price does
not include Tours. If you would like to get Your Cruise without Tours please let us know
in order to deduct the Tours cost from the Cruise Price. However there are some Nile
Cruises such as Abercrombie, Sonesta, Movenpick & Presidential where Sightseeing’s
are Compulsory at the Price even if you don’t want to do it.

nilecruised.com contactus@nilecruised.com+201201421551+201002759668

So when you choose a Nile Cruise don’t look only for Price but also you have to see all
other Factors that affect this price.

What Are The Other Costs Related To My Nile Cruise Trip?
