2. Objective
The compressed air system working:
1. Pressure lines are connected to a compressor fitted with non return valve at the
compressor outlet.
2. Air lines should not be used as start charging path for the air receiver.
3. Only the pipes with material tested that can be mounted on a diesel engine starting
line where the pressure is maintained.
4. Air line to start each engine is equipped with non-return valve and drain
(separator).
5. Tyfons must be connected to two air receivers.
6. A safety valve should be installed behind the pad any pressure-lowering valve
(reducing valve).

5. Description Of System

Compressed air system are used for starting engines. In general, the engines on
large ships will use compressed air as the system starting, the man who supplied a
pressurized air into the cylinder to the piston so that the moving a few times and step piston
is able to work on the engine. Injection pressure is done with sequence corresponding to the
direction of rotation is required. Pressurized air supply air receivers are stored in air to use at
any time. Starting systems are generally equipped with a reversing valve to prevent the start
if things are not in working condition.
Pressurized air that's produced of the compressor and air receiver. Then the supply
of pressurized air by a pipe to the automatic valve and then to start air valve cylinder. The
opening of the valve will start to air pressure into the cylinder. Opening the cylinder valve
and the automatic pilot valve is controlled by the air system. The pilot was given air from a
large pipe and again to the control valve operated by the air arm in the engine start. If the
arm is operated, the air supply is able to unlock the automatic pilot valve. Pilot air to the
appropriate operation is also supplied to the air distributor. These tools are generally driven
by the camshaft and cylinder of air to give the pilot control of the valves start. Pilot air and
then supplied in the order in accordance with engine operation. Start air valve is maintained
closed by a spring when not in use and opened by the pilot to give direct air-pressure air into
the cylinder. An automatic valve interlock which stops in the opening of the valve if the
engine turning gear stick.

2. Pump
a. Centrifugal Pump
A centrifugal pump is a rotodynamic pump that uses a rotating impeller to increase the
pressure and flow rate of a fluid. Centrifugal pumps are the most common type of pump
used to move liquids through a piping system. The fluid enters the pump impeller along a
near to the rotating axis and is accelerated are typically used for large discharge through
smaller heads. The example will be given by Figure 1.3 Centrifugal Pump below.

3. Valve and Fitting

a. Butterfly Valve
A butterfly valve is a valve which can be used for isolating or regulating flow. The closing
mechanism takes the form of a disk, which allows for quick shut off. Butterfly valve are
generally favored because they are lower in cost to other valve designs as well as being
lighter in weight, meaning less support is required. Used for stop valve only, for low working
pressure. In this system, butterfly valve used in order before the pump, and as a connecting
to another equipment to make a standby function. Below is the example of butterfly valve,
shown in Figure 5.3 Butterfly Valve.

b. Non Return Valve

Has same function with globe valve, working in very high pressure and just has one-way
direction. Usually this valve is used in order after the pump and another lines that the fluids
shall not back through the same line or just one-way direction.
