Welcome to CP Algebra II!

This semester you have the opportunity to expand your algebraic skills while perfecting prior mathematical skills as well.
Algebra II is a college preparatory mathematics course designed to prepare the student for concepts learned in Algebra III
or Probability and Statistics. This class forms the cornerstone of most college mathematics and is critical to the student’s
success. Skills in Algebra II are taught through an integrative approach. Emphasis is on active participation through
appropriate project work, laboratory activities, group and individual assignments, discussion, & practice. Students are
expected to use graphing calculators throughout the course. Your problem solving and reasoning skills will improve. You
will organize information more effectively and communicate your ideas more clearly.

Prerequisites: Students entering this course should have successfully completed Algebra 1 and CP Geometry having
mastered the state-mandated standards.

Grading Scale: Each quarter grade is comprised of daily work (classwork and homework) quizzes, tests, and occasional
projects and lab activities. A cumulative final exam will be given at the end of the semester. See below for the grade
breakdown:
Quarter Grade Breakdown: Overall Semester Grade Breakdown:
Tests 50% 1st Quarter 40% of overall grade
Quizzes 30% 2nd Quarter 40% of overall grade
Daily Work 20% Final Exam 20% of overall grade
(Classwork and Homework)

 Tests: Tests will be announced in advance both in class and posted online. In order to receive full credit, all work
should be shown with your answers. If a student is absent the day before a test and no new material is taught, they
will still take the test. There are absolutely no retaking tests or test corrections.
 Quizzes: Quizzes may or may not be announced. In order to receive full credit, all work should be shown.
 Homework/Classwork: Homework will consist of online work through the ALEKS online program as well as
paper based homework designed to prepare students for the next day and to practice skills needed for success in the
course.
o Weekly homework and classwork grades will be assigned under the daily work category and will
demonstrate sustained effort and understanding in the course.
o For excused absences, the student has one week from the day of absence to turn in missing assignments.

YOU MUST SHOW WORK AT ALL TIMES!!!

 Projects/Performance Tasks: There will be projects and performance tasks assigned throughout the semester to
reinforce concepts we study. Projects and performance tasks will be included in either quizzes or daily work
depending on their complexity.
 Attendance, Tardies and Make Up Work: Presence in class is essential to success. Being ON TIME to class is
also vital in order to maximize learning. When the bell rings, the door will be shut, and anyone arriving after that
will be marked tardy. Students are expected to follow all school and district policies regarding these attendance,
tardies and make up work.
Exam Policy: Seniors with a 90 and above overall average will be exempt from a course final. Students who
qualify for exam exemption may opt to take a final exam in that course to improve their grade. For these
students, their final grade may be raised, but not lowered, by their final exam grade.
FINAL EXAMS MAY NOT BE TAKEN EARLY
Exam Schedule: Senior Exams 1st and 2nd block: May 22nd
Senior Exams 3rd and 4th block: May 23rd
