Hamlet process and activities:

 Read two acts per week (see calendar), discuss acts during class, note-taking, questions,
acting out scenes, translating. You will be asked to share ideas, discuss, act out scenes (not
for dramatic effect-but rather for understanding) and delve into the play. Homework will
include reading several pages and responding in writing for reader’s responses due at the
end of each of the three weeks.

 The writing during February will be note-taking and readers’ responses. You’ll need one page
of response a week (total of three responses). The first response may be uploaded to
Canvas any time before Feb. 9 at 11:59 pm. You should quote the play at least once per
response putting the act and scene you quoted from in parentheses (e.g.: I, 2).

 Watch film version(s) of play—between February 22 and 26.

After viewing, reading, discussing and writing about the play: Use Socratic Seminar
(goldfish bowl) activity with 5-people in inner circle, the rest in outer circle. Each group
will be assigned an act or set of characters (Acts I-V, three sets of characters: eight
groups). Groups will begin activity—two groups will go per day. Inner Group’s task is to dig
deeper, enlighten, show us examples, translate and interpret scene—character, etc.
Students get Two days of preparation. Discussion may include but is not limited to:
character analysis and motivation, thematic and character/plot discussion, asking questions
and discussing points of view.

 In-class essay test on the play based on discussions.
