INTRODUCTION

Our childhood are shaped and formed in our homes. It is where our first teachers-

parents, taught us the moral values and lessons that we should apply outside our own

foundations.

Nowadays, we heard teenagers caught into gang wars inflicting themselves

physical pain, involved in drug addiction as if sentencing their own deaths, committed

suicide without minding the lives they will leave, abandoned their homes, early teenage

pregnancy as a victim of rape or lack of knowledge as to its consequences, only attained

grade school or did not even pursue schooling and among others. It is one proof that not

all teenagers are living the expectations of the Fatherland.

Do we even wonder why all of these cases happen to these innocent minds whom

we expect to be studying faithfully for their future, being submissive to their parents, no

peer pressure as to bad influences and just living the life they deserve?

Research shows that the most commonly accepted source of these problems which

teenagers experience are stress and/or depression, commonly based on self-image.

Peer pressure and the struggle to meet the expectations of parents, coaches, and

teachers top the list. Expectations, pressure to do well, and not achieving can be in second

place with the majority of students, followed closely by the pressure to perform in the

categories of relationships, extracurricular, tryouts, shows, and gender equality. The

pressure to perform well in school is not limited to the classroom as many might assume.

It is apparent that the majority of stress teens go through is created by the struggle to

create an image that is accepted by others: working to make parents proud, not disappoint

teammates, impress potential dates, and fit into a social group, all simultaneously. To

adults, these stressful teen-challenges may seem trivial, but health scientists are

discovering that, for teens, these stimuli are as serious as a life or death situation, literally.
Maybe possible if they are turned over to rehabilitation institutions for debriefing

or even fellow teenagers like us can be a goof influence through giving advice by the

lessons we gained in school, especially in our soon-to-be course, BS-Criminology.

Hope is lit because they cater for freedom of expression against the stress and depression,

but what will become of our Fatherland if it houses a youth of wild generation?
ABSTRACT

This research is aimed to identify causes and effects of teenage stress and

depression with regard to crime involvement. Adolescence has always been an awkward

stage where teens struggle to build their own identity, seek autonomy, and learn

about intimacy and sexuality in relationships. These things all cause a certain level of

angst to the point of committing suicide or crimes.

With the help of questionnaires distributed to students of JLMA Inc., it is

expected that information, crime rates of teenagers, causes and effects, advantages and

disadvantages with regard to teenage stress and depression will be gathered for the

support of this research. However, students hesitant to answer the questionnaire,

whatever may be the reason is, should not be compelled to do so. Confidentiality of the

answers of each student would be guaranteed by not requiring them to indicate their name

in the questionnaire.

Constructive criticisms, suggestions, modification and among others would be

openly entertained for the betterment of this research.

DEDICATION

This research paper is dedicated to all students of Juan Luna Memorial Academy,

Inc., Badoc, Ilocos Norte and to all teenagers in the community.

Stress isn’t just a problem for adults. Teenagers, too. School is the top source of stress for

teens, followed by the pressure of getting into a good college or deciding what to do after

high school.

Stress and depression is leading to emotional and physical symptoms for many

young people. News on air and surveys show that symptoms include neglecting

responsibilities, feeling overwhelmed, having negative thoughts or changes in sleeping

habits. More than a third reported feeling tired, feeling nervous or anxious, or

experiencing irritability and anger.

Now, this research is made and especially dedicated to teenagers especially to

those who weren’t sure if they were doing enough to manage their stress. Beyond the

line, however, this research is dedicated also to parents, teachers and adults to help your

child, student or teenagers how to keep stress in check.

Significance of the Study

To help teenagers especially students of JLMA to manage sources of stress and

pressure that might affect their cognition in committing different forms of crimes.

Scope and Delimitation of Study

This conducted research will benefit great mass of teenagers/minors, whether or

not studying or out of school youth. The research will limit activities, influence or

pressure that might cause stress/depression to teenagers/minors, causing them to commit

a crime.
