WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED?

These were the words spoken by thousands on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:37-41) and also
millions of people through the ages, as well as in the hearts of thousands of people in our time.

Church membership alone is not the answer, because when Jesus was on earth the religious
activities of the Jews were very high. God however had to give this very stern indictment:
“Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but
have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men”
(Isaiah 29:13)

The Lord Jesus corroborated this by saying: “Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God
by your tradition? For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that
curseth father or mother, let him die the death. But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his
mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; And honour not his father or
his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your
tradition. Ye hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying, This people draweth nigh unto me
with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they
do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. (Matt. 15:3-9)

There are therefore doctrines that are the commandments of men and there is the truth that will
set you free. The choice is yours, the truth out of God’s word or the man made doctrines.

The Apostle Paul, who was an important and high-ranking person in the Jewish community, had
to forsake everything because he wanted the truth to be triumphant in his life. Speaking on his
own behalf, when he appeared before the Governor, Felix, he says: “But this I confess unto thee,
that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things
which are written in the law and in the prophets” (Acts 24:14) The word “heresy” or “heretic” is
used by people to describe and belittle persons that holds a view relating to the gospel, which is
contrary to their church’s doctrine. Jesus and his disciples were called “heretics” by the Jews,
and Jesus warned us that there are three things that we will be persecuted and ridiculed for, in
the last days. These are; for righteousness sake, the Name of Jesus, and for the sake of truth.

It is essential that we know that the only unshaken anchor and assurance, is the word of God.
Jesus Himself corroborated this, by saying: “Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words
shall not pass away. “ (Luke 21:33) “He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one
that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.” (John
12:48) “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” (John 17:17)

It is very important to know what the Word of God has to say about the following subjects,
because it will have a profound influence in our understanding, and obedience to the Gospel of
Salvation and our “Faith” walk with God:

1. Sin: “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Rom. 3:23)

2. The new and living way: “By a new living way, which He hath consecrated for us,
through the veil, that is to say, His flesh.” (Heb. 10:20)

3. Repentance: “Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” (Matt. 3:2)

4. Born again experience: “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto
thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John 3:3)

5. Baptism: “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not
shall be damned.” (Mark 16:16)

6. Baptism in/with the Holy Spirit: “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the
name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy
Ghost.” (Acts 2:38)

7. The Godhead: “To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself,” (2
Cor. 5:19)

8. A Peaceful and Holy lifestyle: “follow peace with all men, and holiness, without
which no man shall see the Lord:” (Heb. 12:14)

Before we can earnestly move into the discipleship teaching we have to be grounded and
established in the way of reconciliation and salvation. We do not intend to fight against, or
degrade any other doctrinal views or beliefs; we only bring the truth as it is written in God’s
word. Our prayer is that the Spirit of the Lord will lead you into all truth as it is revealed in the
Bible.

Please go through these lectures prayerfully and lay aside all your preconceived ideas and
teachings, and let the “Word” and the “Spirit” teach you.
