COMPUTERS AND OTHER TECHNOLOGY

Guidelines for Internet Use

The following standards are used as a general structure for student access to electronic resources.

Students
Ø Students are allowed access to filtered Internet use upon the school’s signed receipt by student and
parent. All students must attend an Internet training/awareness session conducted by the IT
department, generally to be held during the first week of each school year.

Internet and Network Regulations

Technology at Green Dot Public Schools must be in support of education and consistent with the
educational objectives of the school. However, you must comply with the following regulations:

Ø You may not give your password to anyone.


Ø You may not use or alter anyone else’s Internet account.
Ø You may not offer Internet access to any individual via your account.
Ø You may not break in or attempt to break into another computer or network resource.
Ø You may not destroy another person’s data.
Ø You may not create or share computer viruses.
Ø You may not use multi-user games on Green Dot Public School’s network.
Ø You are not permitted to get from or put onto the network any copyrighted material (including
software), threatening, or obscene material.
Ø As a user of this community system, users should notify a network administrator of any violations of
this contract taking place by other users or outside parties. This may be done anonymously.
Ø Before installing any licensed software on computers, permission and/or assistance must be obtained
from the IT Department.
Ø Students will not reveal their names and personal information to, or establish relationships with
“strangers” on the network, unless a parent or teacher has coordinated the communication.
Ø No illegal activities may be conducted via the network (i.e. browsing indecent/illegal web sites)
Ø You may not use the network for commercial purposes.
Ø Transmission of any material in violation of any U.S. or state regulation is prohibited. This includes,
but is not limited to copyrighted material [1], threatening or obscene material or material protected by
trade secret. Use for product advertisement or political lobbying is not consistent with the purposes
of the Net and is inappropriate.

Web Filtering (Proxies)

Green Dot Public Schools uses a Proxy server to safeguard users. Through proxy, Green Dot Public
Schools has the ability to view Internet locations that specific users have visited. Proxy logs are kept.
The IT Staff may reviews proxy logs daily. When student violations are discovered, offenses may be
handled by the classroom teacher, principal, headmaster and/or Technology Director. .

Consequences of Violations

Violations May Result in Loss of Access as well as Other Disciplinary or Legal Action

Ø Students who misbehave in a computer class through actions specifically will be disciplined by the
supervisor using his/her classroom policies and procedures, in conjunction with those of Green Dot

Public Schools, as spelled out in the student handbook. However, if such violation does, or has the
potential to impede upon the security, and/or integrity of the overall Green Dot Public Schools
LAN/WAN, supervisor will confer with the technology director or system administrator, and the
technology director will take appropriate disciplinary action.

Ø The supervising teacher/staff will discipline students who misbehave while using computers in a
library or lab setting. However, if such violation does, or has the potential to impede upon the
security, and/or integrity of the overall Green Dot Public Schools LAN/WAN, the classroom
teacher/staff person will confer with the technology director, and an appropriate disciplinary action
will be directed by the technology director

Ø Intentional vandalism2 and/or hacking may result in the cancellation of computer privileges at Green
Dot Public Schools. This includes, but is not limited to, any attempt to destroy hardware, operating
systems, and/or applications or data. This also includes creating, uploading, or downloading of
viruses. The technology director may confer with the principal in order to administer an appropriate
measure.

• I fully understand and will abide by Green Dot Public School’s Appropriate Use Policy
for Internet and Technology. I further understand that any violation of the regulations is
unethical and may constitute a criminal offense. Should I commit any violation, my
access privileges may be revoked, school disciplinary action may be taken, and/or
appropriate legal action.
• I understand that use of Green Dot Public Schools’ computing resources is a privilege not
a right.
• I understand that Green Dot Public Schools’ computing resources, including printers, are
to be used only for academic related purposes only.
• I understand that any private business or commercial use of Green Dot Public Schools'
computing resources is prohibited.

Vandalism may result in cancellation of privileges. Vandalism is defined as any attempt to harm or destroy hardware, operating
system, or applications of another user. This includes uploading or creating computer viruses. The cancellation privilege may be
for the remainder of that semester or school year. In addition, the principle and/or headmaster may employ other actions as each
case is reviewed individually.

Desktop and Laptop Parent/Student Contract
The mission of Animo Justice Charter High School is to provide an academic environment that
fosters a commitment to our technologically advancing society. In pursuit of this goal, Animo Justice
Charter High School will issue an account on either a LAPTOP or DESKTOP computer to

We, the parents of ____________________________ (Student Name), understand that the following
guidelines and regulations for the use of the laptop are in the best interest of the student. We are
committed to supporting the following regulations and requirements:

Students are NOT to:


1. Install unauthorized programs or software (including- but not limited to peer-to-peer applications).
2. Remove or copy programs installed by technology staff
3. Recklessly or maliciously interfere with or damage computer/network resources, computer data,
files or other information
4. Use profanity, obscene language, harass or threaten individuals using this resource
5. Engage in any illegal or commercial activity, vandalism, destruction or tampering using this
resource
6. Initiate or send chain letters or other types of electronic messages to any other student/teacher
7. Download, view, or post to school computers any material which is illegal, indecent, in violation
of copyright laws, or damaging to the school, or the students (including but not limited to
pornography, viruses, hacking, weapons, etc.)
8. Load, view, distribute, or otherwise us the school facilities for the purpose of obtaining,
forwarding, viewing, or saving indecent materials.
* Students are responsible for bringing the laptop fully charged to school every day.
We support the aforementioned regulations and are aware that the following are possible penalties
for:

Violations/Consequences:
• Termination of computer privileges (Animo retains the right to do this at anytime)
• Suspension/Expulsion
• Referral to the discipline review board
• Referral to civil authorities for criminal prosecution
• Other legal action including action to recover civil damages and penalties

accept financial responsibility for any damage to the DELL Laptop computer. This will include
incidents of misbehavior whether willful or accidental. We also understand that the value of this
computer is $1300 and accept financial responsibility in the case a student is found responsible for its
damage or tampering.
