MTH209: Quiz 1 (5 points)

NAME= PLEASE NEXT TIME

GRADE = 4.5/5

1.0 Simplify the following:

( 2a ) 3
1.1 ?
(3b 2 ) 2

(-6x 2 y 5 ) 3
1.2
(-2z 6 ) 4

1.1)

correct
1.2)

correct

2.0 Evaluate the following using factoring approach (for simplification)

 x  6 3x  2 3x  2 
2.1 =?
9x2  4

correct
2.2 (6.2x10-5+3.8x10-5)(1x104) =?

= {[(6.2×10)-5] + [(3.8×10)-5]} × (1×104)

= [(62-5) + (38-5)] × 10,000

= (57+33) × 10,000

= 90×10,000

= 900,000

see solution!

I don’t see anything wrong here Khadijah unless you have miscopied the question
itself. Please copy the solution as provided by the instructor & advise me.

3.0 Find the LCM of the following three numbers using prime factorization approach

100, 75, and 15 (please show detailed set-up)

Multiples of 100 = 100, 200, 300,…etc

Multiples of 75 = 75,150,225,300,…etc

Multiples of 15 = 15,30,45, 60,75,90, 105, 120, 135,150, 165, 180, 195, 210, 225, 240,
255, 270, 285, 300, 315,…etc.

From the above we can see that the LCM for 100, 75, and 15 is 300 OK!

THIS IS NOT THE RIGHT APPROACH! COULD YOU PLEASE REVIEW THE
WEEK 1 MATERIAL AND EXTRA EXAMPLES FOR CORRECT APPROACH

This is not wrong, the instructor simply gave you another way to deal with these
questions, if possible, please check his approach and provide me with a sample for
future questions.

15 75 100
5.0 Evaluate the following:

= 23 x 2×3

= 8x6
correct
