1.0 SCOPE

This specification details the design criteria for civil engineering structures and infrastructures for
AngloGold mine properties within the boundaries of RSA. The specification shall be read in
conjunction with the relevant design specifications for projects outside the boundaries of RSA.

All design work shall be carried out by Civil Engineers under the direction of a Registered
Professional Engineer (Civil), who shall be Approved by the AngloGold Civil Engineer or his
nominated representative.

2.0 TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS TO BE SPECIFIED BY THE ENGINEER

• Title, reference, and issue number of this specification.

3.0 DEFINITIONS

4.0 STRUCTURAL DESIGN

4.1 Construction materials

4.1.1 Concrete

The concrete grade shall be determined based on usage and environmental conditions as follows:

• Grade 10 for mass concrete and blinding


• Grade 25 for general use in mild conditions. Minimum cover to reinforcement shall be 25
mm
• Grade 25 for underground construction (non-structural concrete)
• Grade 30 for all underground structural concrete. Minimum cover shall be 50 mm.
• Grade 30 for moderate condition, suspended slabs subjected to traffic, spillage or wash
down. Minimum cover to reinforcement shall be 30 mm.
• Grade 35 for severe condition and water retaining structures. Minimum cover to
reinforcement shall be 40 mm.
• Grade 40 for very severe to extreme conditions. Minimum cover to reinforcement shall be
50 mm.

The water/cement ratio and cement content shall be as follows:

• Grade 25 concrete shall have a maximum free water/cement ratio of 0.65 and a minimum
cement content of 275 kg/m³.
• Grade 30 concrete shall have a maximum free water/cement ratio of 0.60 and a minimum
cement content of 300 kg/m³.
• Grade 35 concrete shall have a maximum free water/cement ratio of 0.55 and a minimum
cement content of 325 kg/m³.

• Grade 40 concrete shall have a maximum free water/cement ratio of 0.50 and a minimum
cement content of 350 kg/m³.

4.1.2 Reinforcement

The required characteristic strength of reinforcement shall be 250 MPa and 450 MPa for hot-rolled
mild steel and hot-rolled high-yield steel respectively to SABS 920.

Cold worked high yield reinforcement shall only be used when specified by the Engineer.

Cover to reinforcement shall normally be 50 mm including links. Smaller covers may be used on
minor structures and domestic type structures where concrete surfaces are protected against
adverse climatic or aggressive conditions, but not less than that described in 3.1.1. In no case will
the cover be less than 25 mm or greater than 60 mm except where concrete is cast directly against
earth where a cover of 75 mm shall be used.

4.1.3 Structural steel

Unless otherwise Approved, structural steel design shall comply with the requirements of
AngloGold Specification 114/1.

4.1.4 Timber

Unless otherwise Approved, structural timber specified in the design shall comply with the
requirements of SABS 0163.

Timber for structural members shall be structural SA pine which complies with the requirements of
SABS 563 grade V4/M4 or SABS 1245 grade V6 (or M6-M10).

Purlins shall not be less than 50 x 76 in cross-section placed on edge and with a stress grade of at
least six. Purlins centres shall not exceed 1.2 m on trusses spaced at centres not exceeding 1.5
m.

Purlins shall be fixed to trusses at each connection using two No. 3.5 mm diameter x 90 mm long
wire nails together with 2.5 mm diameter wire ties, "hurricane clips" or any other Approved method
capable of withstanding a load of 4 kN.

Roof structures shall be held down by securing the trusses to the walls of the supporting structure.
This shall be completed by providing 50 x 1.2 mm thick galvanised steel straps cast in a minimum
of 350 mm into a concrete ringbeam or built into at least 5 courses of brickwork. The protruding
end of the strap shall be bent firmly over the trusses (i.e. through 180 degrees) and the end
securely nailed to the truss.

All timber structures shall be adequately braced.

4.1.5 Structural masonry

Unless otherwise Approved, structural masonry specified in the design shall comply with the
requirements of SABS 0164.

Brickwork units shall have a minimum compressive strength of 7 MPa and a maximum water
absorption of 12%. Mortar shall be Class II to SABS 0164.

Brickforce shall be built in every 4th brick course and every course for 3 courses above and below
wall openings. 1.6 x 30 x 500 mm long galvanised mild steel ties shall be connected to columns

and built (without bends) in every 4th course. Each connection shall have a minimum ultimate
pullout strength of 4 kN and a minimum ultimate shear of strength of 3.5 kN.

1.6 x 30 x 750 mm long galvanised mild steel ties shall be built into brickwork (5 courses minimum)
and cast into the ringbeam at 1000 centres to connect the brickwork to the ringbeam.

All internal walls shall be connected to external walls with 1.6 x 30 x 900 mm long galvanised mild
steel L-straps every 4th course for the full height including connecting to the ring beam where
applicable. All vertical and horizontal joints shall be filled solid with mortar. The thickness of the
bed joint shall in no case exceed 13 mm. The height of walling built in one day shall not exceed
1.5 m.

4.2 Design standards and codes of practice

Unless agreed otherwise by AngloGold or where no accepted limit state code of practice is
available, design shall be by limit state design methods considering both the ultimate limit state and
the serviceability limit state. The following Codes of Practice are acceptable:

The Designer's attention is drawn to the limitations of Codes of Practice for some aspects of mining
structures and the need for reference to research reports and other documents where necessary.
Other codes not specified above may be referred to with Approval. The Designer shall not apply
sections from different codes in the design of an element.

4.3 Loading

Permanent and imposed loads shall be determined in accordance with SABS 0160 and where
required by testing.

4.3.1 Material coefficients for stored bulk solids

Material coefficients for stored bulk solids shall comply with the requirements of AngloGold
Specification 114/1.

4.3.2 Superimposed floor and roof loads

Floor and Platforms: For structures other than domestic type structures, a minimum uniform load
of 5 kN/m² or 12 kN/m width distributed uniformly over the span for spans less than 2.4 m, in
addition to equipment loads.

Stairs, Landings and Walkways: A minimum uniform load of 5 kN/m².

Conveyor Gantry Walkways: A uniform load of 2,5 kN/m².

Main floor and roof beams: In buildings other than domestic type buildings, a concentrated load of
10 kN for occasional hoisting of small equipment placed in the most onerous position shall be
allowed. This point load shall not be considered as cumulative with the uniformly distributed load.

Roofs of plant and mine buildings. A uniform load of not less than 0,5 kN/m².

Imposed floor loads shall be assessed in consultation with the Engineer and shall be Approved

prior to the commencement of design but shall not be less than the minimum loads specified
above. The loads adopted in the design shall be noted on the general arrangement drawings.

4.3.3 Plant and equipment loads

Plant and equipment loads shall be assessed in consultation with the Engineer and shall be
Approved prior to the commencement of design. The loads adopted in the design shall be
indicated on the general arrangement drawings.

4.3.4 Forces on walls, balustrades, and glazing

Stairs, Landings, and Walkways: A horizontal load on parapets and handrails of 3 kN/m acting at
the top of the handrail or coping level.

4.3.5 Wind loads

Wind loads shall comply with the requirements of AngloGold Specification 114/1.

4.3.6 Earthquake loads

The seismic hazard zone will normally be taken as Zone II unless the structure is actually situated
in a Zone I area as defined in the loading code.

4.3.7 Temperature load effects

Provision shall be made in the design of structures and structural elements for expansion and
contraction resulting from temperature changes and temperature differentials. For the assessment
of the effects of climate, a temperature variation of ± 25°C shall be considered.

The coefficient of linear expansion for steel and concrete shall be taken as 12 x 10-6/°C

4.3.8 Imposed loading on underground plugs and box fronts for interlevel ore passes

Unless otherwise specified by the Engineer, the following parameters shall be used in the design of
underground plugs and boxfronts

• Hydrostatic load conditions


• The specific gravity of stored material shall be 2.0
• A maximum head of 30 metres of mud of specific gravity 2.0 shall be adopted as the
design pressure (equivalent to 60 m head of water).

Where less onerous conditions can be assured by the Engineer, pressures may be calculated
using "silo theory".

4.3.9 Underground structures

Loading on underground structures shall be based on planned excavation dimensions increased


by 10% to allow for over excavation. The design engineer shall be notified where actual
excavations exceed the planned excavation by more than 10%.

4.3.10 Fatigue

All structural members subject to fluctuating load cycles shall be assessed for fatigue damage in

accordance with BS 7608 or BS 5400 Part 10. Except for slender or flexible structures such as
towers, masts and stacks, wind loads shall not be considered as fluctuating loads.

4.3.11 Partial safety factors and combinations

General guidance is given in the relevant Code of Practice for ultimate limit state, but the Designer
shall use judgement based on the accuracy of the assessment of loads. Partial safety factors
given in codes of practice include a factor which takes account of tolerances and analytical
inaccuracies, in additional to unfavourable variations of loads.

4.4 Serviceability requirement

4.4.1 Deflections

Deflections shall be considered as a serviceability limit state.

Deflections under the action of imposed loads shall not exceed the limits specified in the relevant
design standards listed in section 2.2. In addition, the following limits shall apply to vertical
deflections under the action of combined permanent and imposed loads:

Unless otherwise specified, L is the span of a simply supported member, any span of a continuous
member, or the free length of a cantilevered member.

4.4.2 Crack Widths

Crack width in water retaining structures shall be calculated in accordance with BS 8007 and shall
not exceed 0.2 mm.

4.4.3 Dynamic effects of rotating, vibration or impacting machinery and equipment

The dynamic effects of rotating, vibration or impacting machinery and equipment shall be catered
for in accordance with the requirements of AngloGold specification 114/1.

5.0 INFRASTRUCTURE

5.1 Dams

Dam safety is controlled by central Government and is implemented under Section 9C of the Water
Act and the Regulations in Government Notice R1560. The dam owners are legally responsible for
their dams, and have to comply with specific requirements. There are three category
classifications based on size and potential hazard.

A dam with a safety risk is defined as a dam with a storage capacity of more than 50 000m³ and a
vertical height of more than 5 m.

5.2 Dam linings

Where suitable Clay lining material for dams is not available a geomembrane liner shall be
considered. The manufacture of the membrane shall comply with SABS 1526. To ensure integrity
of the system, earthworks shall be carried out in accordance with SABS 1200D Earthworks. The
liner shall also be installed and tested in accordance with the manufacturing specifications. Where
liners are exposed to the elements these shall be resistant to ultra-violet radiation levels. Other
design factors which shall be considered are:

• Wave or wind action on the surface


• Type of material to be retained
• Dam standing empty for a long period of time
• Safety on the edges of the liner
• Proper anchoring of the liner

5.3 Pipeline and pumping systems

Pipelines shall be designed to the required working pressures and the velocities of the liquid
flowing within the line shall be kept to the manufacturer's limits.

• Steel pipes

Steel pipes shall be selected to SABS 719 Grade B or C or to API5A Grades A to X 70.

• HDPE pipes (High Density Polyethylene)

HDPE pipes shall be selected to SABS 533 Part II Type 4 and Part III Type 5.

Because of reduced wall thickness in Type 5 these pipes shall not be used for slurries.

• uPVC (Unplasticised Polyvinyl Chloride)

uPVC pipes shall be selected to SABS 966 or to ISO 4422. Care shall be taken when
designing the pipes to choose the correct design stresses.

MPVC pipes shall not be used for pressure nor pumping installations.

• GRP Pipes (Glass-Reinforced Polyester)

GRP pipes shall be selected in accordance with the pressure requirements as well as and also
the backfilling trench conditions. The pipe stiffness shall be correctly selected. GRP pipes are
not suitable for pumping slurries because of the poor abrasive properties.

• Asbestos cement pipes

Asbestos cement pipes shall be selected in accordance with SABS 1123 for COD (Constant
Outside diameter) or CID (Constant inside diameter).

5.4 Sewers

• Clay pipes

Clay pipes shall be selected to SABS 559 for drainage and sewers.
• uPVC sewers pipes

Sewer pipes in uPVC shall be specified to Class 51 normal duty or Class 34 heavy duty in
accordance with SABS 791.

• Asbestos cement pipes

Sewer pipes in asbestos cement shall be in accordance with SABS 819.

• Concrete pipes

Concrete pipes for stormwater and sewers shall be in accordance with SABS 677 for normal
pipes and SABS 676 for pressurised pipes. Concrete pipes used for sewer shall be provided
with a dolomitic sacrificial layer on the inside.

• Valves

Valves specified shall be in accordance with SABS 664 and 665 with the class stated.

• Flanges

Flanges for pipes and fittings shall be specified for the working pressures to:

The pressure rating and drilling shall be specified.

• Design of pumps

The design of pumps shall be carried out in accordance with the supplier's recommendations.
(The pump duties specified should be verified by means a factory tests in accordance with
BS 5316: Part I or Part 2: 1976. ISO 2548: 1973).

5.5 Corrosion protection of steel pipes

All corrosion protection shall be in accordance with the requirements of AngloGold specification
164/50 and the specified Corrosion Protection System (CPS).

5.6 Water treatment

The Water Services Act shall be referred to in all cases.

• Treatment of potable water

Water for drinking purposes shall be treated to the minimum physical, chemical and
bacteriological requirements specified in SABS 241.

• Treatment of water for discharge into a public stream

Water for discharge into a public stream or water course shall be treated and shall comply with
the requirements of Section 21 of the Water Act. The design of the treatment plants may vary.
The treatment of industrial waste water and sewage shall be in accordance with the
requirements of the manual on the Design of Small Sewage Works, published by the Water
Institute of Southern Africa.

5.7 Railways

Private sidings shall be in accordance with the requirements of the South African Transport
Services Private Siding Agreement. Private Sidings shall be designed in accordance with the
"Provision and Construction of Private Sidings" of the South African Transport Services.

5.8 Roads and stormwater

5.8.1 Roads:

Roads can be divided into the following categories:

• National Roads
• Provincial Roads
• Township Roads and local mine roads
• Haul Roads

The mine access roads shall be discussed with the relevant mine authorities and the local authority
guidelines shall be used in the design of the roads.

National roads

These roads shall be designed to the guidelines laid down by the National Transport
Commission (NTC).

Provisional roads

Provincial Roads shall be designed to the parameters laid down in the Technical
Recommendations for Highways (TRH) series with specific amendments to suit the
particular provincial authority Committee of State Road Authorities (CSRA).

Township roads and local mine roads

Township roads and local mine roads shall be designed in accordance with the
requirements of the "Guideline for Engineering services and amenities". Local authorities
have their own specifications which shall be considered in the design.

Haul roads

The design of haul roads shall be based on the guidelines "The Functional Design of
Surface Mine Haul Roads" and/or in conjunction with "Design of Surface Mine Haul
Roads".

5.8.2 Stormwater:

• Design of stormwater

Stormwater for road drainage shall be designed in accordance with National Transport
Commission "Road Drainage Manual" and also "Guidelines for Engineering Services and
amenities".

• Earthworks

Design of earthworks shall be in accordance with SABS 1200 D with reference to specific
sections.

5.9 Solid waste disposal sites

Waste streams are classified as Mining Waste and Industrial Waste

Mining Waste - Mining waste is in the form of residues such as waste rock, sand, slurries and coal
discards and can produce the following detrimental impacts on the environment:

 Air pollution
 Contribution of mineral salts to the water environment
 Always visually prominent

legislation, new codes or any other codes with the agreement of AngloGold and the Dept of Water
Affairs and forestry who lay down "Minimum Requirements for Water Disposal by Landfill" Second
Edition 1998 as published by the Department.

6.1 Presentation and layout of calculations

Design calculations shall be made only on suitable A3 or A4 stationery and laid out in a clear and
logical manner.

The first page of each set of calculations shall include the following information:-

Mine
Project title

Project Code
Items which are being designed

Each page shall include the following information:

Date
Page number
Designer's name

Wherever loading or other information is taken from another source, reference shall be made (e.g.
mechanical drawing numbers, reference works, Codes of Practice). All calculations shall state the
design philosophy.

Where computer programs are used, the input and output shall form part of the design calculations.

After completion and checking of drawings all design calculations shall be filed together with a copy
of all information received and the design parameters.

6.2 Preparation of drawings

• Drawings shall be prepared in accordance with the requirements of SABS 0111 and on
AngloGold drawing sheets with AngloGold drawing numbers.

• One paper print and one electronic copy of all drawings shall be issued to AngloGold Civil
Engineering department.
