Reflection:!
The!students!all!loved!this!activity.!They!were!excited!about!the!animals,!and!were!excited!to!have!
an!opportunity!to!colour.!The!students!all!took!their!time!to!colour!the!animals!which!allowed!for!
very!neat!work.!We!extended!on!this!by!providing!verbal!information!about!the!animals!such!as!“the!
mother!kangaroos!have!a!pouch,!this!is!where!her!joey!lives,!a!joey!is!a!baby!kangaroo”.!This!allowed!
for!learning!to!occur!during!the!fun!colouring!time.!Although!this!lesson!was!simple,!it!allowed!us!
time!to!speak!with!the!students!to!get!to!know!them!better,!this!has!been!hard!to!do!in!the!classes!
as!there!are!so!many!students,!and!only!40!minutes!to!teach!a!lesson.!!

3A!were!very!engaged!and!were!motivated!to!learn!and!sing!the!songs.!3B!struggled!with!some!of!
the!words,!and!by!the!end!of!the!lesson!were!not!engaged.!This!has!provided!insight!about!singing!
songs,!which!is!the!lesson!should!involve!more!than!singing,!to!help!ensure!the!students!are!engaged!
and!interested.!!

With!both!classes!we!introduced!the!‘Multiplication!flower’!as!part!of!their!mathematics!lesson.!The!
students!had!not!previously!seen!this!before,!and!were!excited!to!complete!the!task.!Before!the!
students!completed!the!task!on!their!own,!an!example!was!completed!on!the!board,!the!students!
were!asked!to!solve!the!multiplications.!Once!students!had!grasped!the!concept,!they!drew!a!flower,!
then!numbered!the!petals!1=12.!When!the!had!completed!this,!they!drew!another!row!of!petals,!and!
then!solved!the!multiplications.!For!the!students!who!had!completed!this,!they!drew!more!petals!
and!solved!more!complex!multiplications.!This!was!able!to!be!continued,!based!on!the!students’!
abilities.!

Reflection:!
These!lessons!went!well,!it!required!the!students!to!work!in!their!zone!of!proximal!development,!as!
it!allowed!them!to!challenge!themselves!according!to!their!abilities.!The!lesson!provided!insight!into!
the!students’!mathematic!abilities!(eg.!mental!problem!solving).!This!lesson!was!engaging!and!
beneficial!for!the!students,!therefore!this!lesson!will!be!extended!on!in!a!future!lesson.!

4B:+Possum+magic+book+cover+!
!
During!this!lesson!students!finished!their!book!covers,!unfortunately!due!to!how!busy!the!lesson!
was,!no!photographs!were!taken.!However,!this!lesson!ran!smoothly,!students!worked!well!and!
completed!their!artworks.!At!the!end!of!the!lesson!the!students!viewed!their!peer’s!artworks!and!we!
mentioned!how!they!were!all!different!and!unique.!I!felt!this!was!important!to!mention,!as!these!
students!struggle!to!be!unique,!as!their!schooling!system!wants!them!to!all!be!the!same.!!

2A:+Origami!
!
This!class!had!been!struggling!following!directions!in!English,!this!lesson!aimed!to!support!them!to!
develop!in!this!area,!through!a!hands=on!activity.!The!instructions!to!make!the!origami!cup!were!
mainly!auditory,!with!some!visual!prompts.!The!instructions!were!completed!various!times!to!ensure!
all!the!students!understood.!For!this!reason,!the!task!took!a!full!45=minute!lesson!to!complete.!The!
origami!cups!were!collected!and!compiled,!and!then!hung!on!the!classroom!walls!to!allow!students!
to!write!letters!to!one!another!to!practice!their!English!writing.!!

Reflection:!
Although!this!was!a!challenging!lesson!due!to!the!difficulty!level!of!the!task,!all!students!were!
engaged!and!motivated!to!listen!to!the!instructions.!It!was!apparent!some!students!found!this!task!
more!challenging!than!others,!they!required!more!support!from!an!educator,!but!did!complete!the!
task.!If!we!have!more!opportunities!to!work!with!this!class,!it!would!be!good!to!complete!more!
lessons!like!this!to!support!their!English!language!auditory!processing.!

With!both!3A!and!3B!we!continued!with!the!multiplication!flowers,!the!lesson!started!with!a!re=cap!
of!the!previous!lessons,!students!were!asked!what!they!remember!and!how!they!felt!about!the!
previous!lesson.!Students!remembered!the!flower!and!using!the!petals!to!multiply!numbers,!some!
students!mentioned!they!found!it!difficult!to!draw!the!flower.!
Based!on!this!feedback!we!re=drew!a!flower!on!the!board!for!the!class!to!see,!and!discussed!
strategies!to!help!them!draw!the!flower,!such!as!writing!the!numbers!and!then!drawing!the!petals!
around!them.!I!believe!this!helped!the!students!to!be!more!confident!and!to!create!neater!flowers.!!
!
To!extend!the!previous!lessons!the!students!were!required!to!complete!a!different!multiplication!
number,!and!were!to!do!this!on!a!white!piece!of!paper!so!colours!could!be!added.!It!was!highlighted!
to!the!students!these!would!be!displayed!in!the!room,!so!they!should!try!to!be!neat!and!creative!in!
their!work.!The!students!all!appeared!excited!to!have!the!opportunity!to!colour!their!work,!and!for!
their!work!to!be!displayed!in!the!classroom.!Many!of!the!classrooms!in!the!school!lack!student!work!
on!display,!so!I!was!happy!the!students!could!feel!a!sense!of!pride!and!achievement!seeing!their!
work!on!the!classroom!walls.!!

The!female!students!tended!to!be!more!
focused!on!the!appearance!of!their!flower,!
whereas!the!male!students!tended!to!be!
more!focused!on!the!mathematics!of!their!
flowers.!It!was!evident!from!this!lesson,!
some!students!struggle!with!the!correct!
pencil!grip,!which!has!resulted!in!their!
writing!to!be!quite!messy,!if!I!were!at!the!
school!longer!I!would!love!to!support!
students/teachers!to!learn!a!good!way!to!
hold!a!pencil,!and!how!to!support!students!
to!do!this.!!

excited!and!pointing!to!theirs!to!show!their!

2A#Line#Art#Lesson#
Due!to!having!previous!difficluties!with!this!class!we!decided!we!would!do!an!art!lesson!that!also!
focused!on!literacy!and!the!English!language.!Lines!were!explored!with!the!students.!The!different!
lines!were!drawn!on!the!board!and!students!were!asked!to!describe!the!lines,!by!the!zig!zag!line!the!
students!were!engaged!in!this!and!wanted!to!share!their!ideas.!After!the!lines!were!labelled,!
students!drew!the!lines!with!their!hands!in!the!air,!while!saying!what!type!of!line!it!was.!This!
appeared!to!be!enjoyable!for!the!students,!and!enabled!them!to!practice!the!words!again.!The!
students!were!then!asked!to!draw!and!label!the!lines.!This!section!of!the!lesson!took!approximately!
20!minutes.!!

The!next!section!of!the!lesson!required!students!to!use!the!lines!to!create!hair!for!people!(as!seen!
below).!This!concept!was!very!difficult!for!the!students!to!comprehend.!We!thought!if!we!explained!
the!task,!and!provided!an!example,!the!students!would!understand,!but!they!did!not.!So!as!a!class!
we!drew!6!people,!and!then!added!the!different!types!of!lines!as!their!hair.!The!students!then!had!to!
individually!label!the!people!with!the!type!of!lines!they!had!for!hair.!!

Today!the!principal!was!away!in!the!morning,!so!we!decided!we!would!take!class!1B!outside!for!fun!
and!games.!We!had!not!been!previously!able!to!do!this,!due!to!the!principal!not!allowing!students!
outside!because!his!office!is!next!to!the!court.!This!was!a!great!lesson,!it!allowed!us!to!get!out!of!the!
classroom!and!engage!the!students!in!fun!activities.!We!played!duck,!duck,!goose,!What’s!the!time!
Mr!Wolf?!and!taught!the!students!the!chicken!dance.!At!the!end!of!the!lesson!the!students!
performed!a!Nepali!song/dance!for!us,!this!was!amazing!as!they!were!able!to!teach!us!something.!
Overall,!I!believe!the!students!really!enjoyed!this!lesson!and!I!am!glad!they!were!able!to!have!fun,!
without!the!stress!of!completing!school!work.!!

This!lesson!was!similar!to!the!lesson!we!did!with!class!2A,!however!we!changed!it!in!the!hopes!they!
would!better!understand!what!was!being!asked!of!them.!The!lesson!started!the!same!by!having!the!
students!name!the!lines!on!the!board.!The!students!then!drew!the!lines!in!the!air!with!their!hands,!
which!they!seemed!to!really!enjoy.!The!independent!task!for!the!students!was!to!create!an!artwork!
that!explored!different!lines.!Coloured!markers!were!used!to!make!the!artworks!bright!and!visually!
appealing.!!

2AM#Butterflies#
#
This!lesson!was!supposed!to!be!focused!on!the!book!‘The!Very!Hungry!Caterpillar’!by!Eric!Carle.!
However,!we!managed!to!forget!the!book,!so!we!had!to!change!the!focus!of!the!lesson!to!colours,!
shapes!and!symmetry.!The!highlight!of!this!lesson!was!when!we!were!putting!the!students’!
butterflies!on!the!wall,!one!student!saw!his!butterfly!being!placed!on!the!wall,!and!his!face!was!
ecstatic,!as!though!he!had!never!seen!his!work!displayed!before.!This!was!a!great!moment,!it!made!
me!feel!as!though!I!had!given!this!student!and!all!the!students!a!sense!of!belonging,!and!pride!in!
their!work.!!

3AM#Dot#painting#
#
We!decided!to!do!an!art!lesson!utilising!the!dot!painting!styles,!this!was!achieved!using!ear!cotton!
buds!and!water=based!paints!on!white!paper.!This!was!tested!prior!to!this!lesson!to!ensure!it!
worked.!We!wanted!students!to!create!a!tree/flower!using!the!outline!of!their!hands!and!decorate!it!
with!the!dot!paint.!This!was!a!good!lesson!to!support!their!hand=eye=coordination,!as!we!had!
noticed!many!of!the!students!were!struggling!with!this.!!

During!the!lesson!the!students!needed!to!also!practice!their!sharing!with!peers,!this!has!been!an!
issue!in!this!class,!as!the!students!tend!to!yell!at!or!hit!each!other.!To!support!the!students!to!do!this,!
we!modelled!appropriate!ways!to!ask!a!peer!to!pass!the!paint!and!how!to!respond!to!someone!
asking!this.!It!is!important!to!incorporate!personal=social!skills!in!the!lessons!for!primary!aged!
students,!as!they!are!still!learning!and!developing!in!these!areas.!We!highlighted!the!importance!of!
sharing!and!using!positive!social!skills,!the!students!worked!hard!to!do!this!during!the!lesson.!The!
students!also!reminded!their!peers!when!they!needed!to!ask!politely!for!the!paint!to!be!passed!over.!!

and!detailed.!The!students!

The!previous!lessons!with!the!older!classes!were!challenging,!as!the!students!were!not!engaged,!
motivated,!and!did!not!respect!us!as!their!teachers.!From!the!previous!lessons!with!the!older!classes,!
we!decided!we!would!play!games.!The!games!we!played!included;!
•! Categories=!this!game!required!the!class!to!be!in!teams,!they!were!given!a!letter!and!each!
team!needed!to!think!of!a!food,!famous!person,!a!country!and!an!animal!that!started!with!
the!letter.!!
•! Hangman=!a!word!was!chosen,!and!the!class!had!to!provide!letters!to!discover!what!the!
word!was.!This!started!with!Phoebe!and!I!choosing!the!word,!and!then!inviting!students!to!
provide!the!word.!!

Reflection:+
This!lesson!was!a!great!way!to!engage!the!students!in!fun!literacy!activities,!that!allowed!them!to!
participate!in!groups/teams!and!achieve!a!common!goal.!Unfortunately,!no!photographs!were!taken!
during!this!lesson!because!of!how!busy!it!was.!I!am!glad!we!were!able!to!have!a!lesson!with!an!older!
class!that!was!successful.!An!educator!at!the!school!told!us!the!older!classes!often!only!have!male!
educators,!so!this!may!be!a!reason!we!struggled!teaching!them,!as!they!were!used!to!having!older!
male!educators.!If!we!were!at!this!school!longer,!I!would!have!liked!to!have!the!opportunity!to!work!
more!with!the!older!classes,!to!build!relationships!with!them!to!allow!them!to!see!that!female!
educators!are!knowledgeable!and!should!be!respected.!However,!I!know!this!is!part!of!their!culture,!
and!I!shouldn’t!be!disheartened!about!my!teaching!abilities.!!

4B#and#3AM#Songs#&#dances#
!
We!decided!we!wanted!to!end!our!time!at!the!school!with!a!fun!lesson!for!both!classes!4B!and!3A.!
We!taught!both!classes!the!chicken!dance!and!the!macarena.!With!3A!we!also!taught!them!‘If!you’re!
happy!and!you!know!it’.!With!4B!we!asked!if!they!had!a!song/dance!they!would!like!to!share!with!us.!
This!ended!up!turning!into!almost!a!full!lesson!of!the!4B!students!performing!for!us,!including!
popular!Nepali!songs/dances.!

Reflection:+
These!were!fun!and!engaging!lessons,!not!only!for!the!students!but!for!us!teachers!as!well.!I!really!
enjoyed!the!lesson!with!4B!as!they!took!control!of!the!lesson!and!explored!different!songs,!dances!
and!acting.!It!allowed!the!students!freedom!in!a!supported!environment,!it!was!evident!from!their!
faces!and!motivation!they!were!enjoying!themselves.!I!am!glad!we!were!able!to!provide!this!
opportunity!for!the!students!as!they!would!not!often,!if!not!ever!have!this!opportunity!at!school.!!
