Bonjour!

I hope that you and your family enjoyed the holidays. We are settling back into our classroom
routines and have jumped straight into many new topics this term. Here is what we are
learning about this term:

French and English Language Arts –

In French, we are going to focus on writing well-structured and interesting sentences and
paragraphs. We will work on including introductory and conclusion sentences to paragraphs
and learn how to organize and develop ideas. In both languages, we will continue to learn
reading comprehension strategies such as questioning and visualizing.

Math –
We are currently working on multiplication of larger numbers and later in the term we will
begin division. We are continuing to develop strategies to solve word problems. Students are
working on different mathematical concepts depending on their development of
computational skills in multiplication.

Science –
We are learning about habitats and communities and how animals respond to their
environments through interdependence, food chains, and adaptations. Students are working
on a research project of a Canadian endangered animal of their choice.

Social Studies –
We are learning about early explorers and their voyages and discoveries. Next term, we will
focus on the interactions between First Peoples and European Peoples.

Gym –
Students have just finished our gymnastics unit. This week we will begin basketball.

We are looking forward to having you come in to our class for student-led conferences to
share what we are learning with you!

We will also have another student teacher from Simon Fraser University join our class for her
practicum. She will be here on February 5th-9th and then again from February 26th-April 6th
(crosses over spring break). During this short practicum, the teacher will observe our class as
well as other classes throughout the school, and plan and teach several lessons to the class
under my guidance.

Merci,
Mme Anderson
