Job summary

An employee appointed to this position will be required to carry out


Inventory Control and would be expected to be able to receive and issue
stores and materials, stocktake inventory and record of transactions using
computerised systems. They would also be expected to procure stores and
materials using a range of methods including local purchasing and
arranging for systems orders to be placed. They would also be expected
to be involved in the coordination of activities in order to assist in the
dispatch and delivery of stores.

Nature and Scope

Staff at this level are working under limited supervision either in a team
environment or independently. They perform a wide range of tasks
individually or with other team members.

The staff member is expected to determine the most appropriate method


from within a range of acquired skills to use to achieve the required
outcome.

The staff member may be expected to be responsible for the work output
of a small unit as required. Performance management will remain the
responsibility of the Team Leader.

The staff member is expected to be able to perform given tasks to


specified standards and tolerances.
The positions at this level would require the ability to carry out advanced
non-trades functions acquired through experience and training and which
require the adherence to quality procedures.

Progression to this grade will be automatic subject to meeting the


following criteria:

• Meet all the requirements for Storeperson Grade 1


• Plus the Storeperson Grade 2 compulsory competencies.

Skill requirements

Accountability

The staff member works under minimal supervision. They provide


guidance to other team members and are generally responsible for the
completion of a function or activity to a quality specification.

The staff member accepts responsibility for his or her own work whether
it is carried out individually or in a team environment.

Problem Solving

The staff member is able to deal with routine problems that arise within
their sphere of work without support through the application of acquired
knowledge and reference to standard guidelines and manuals. Complex
problems are identified and resolved with the assistance of others.

The staff member determines the most appropriate means of performing


given activities from within a range of established methods.

Interpersonal Skills

The staff member actively participates in team meetings and processes


and pro-actively offers suggestions for improvement drawn from their
knowledge and experience. They apply interpersonal skills to assist
members of the public and other team members, to ensure that team
processes proceed and that minor conflicts within the team are resolved.
They may facilitate some team processes within the work unit.

The staff member may be required to provide guidance to other team


members and on the job training. This may include other staff members
who are assisting in complete the task that the staff member is performing
or giving guidance to apprentices.
Occupational Health and Safety

The staff member understands who is responsible for resolving OHS


problems in their work group and to whom they should report hazards.
They participate in consultation processes on health and safety matters.

The staff member identifies and reports hazards in the workplace. They
rectify simple hazards at their worksites without direction and report them
accordingly. They also participate in Risk Management activities.

They select and apply appropriate safe working procedures in those


functions in which they are formally trained. They are able to identify
situations where a standard safe working procedure may not be
appropriate and suggest appropriate modifications to the safe working
procedure.

The staff member refers to and complies with Material Safety Data Sheets
for all allocated tasks.

The staff member supervises staff under their control to ensure work is
carried out in accordance with safe working procedures. They provide
appropriate instruction and information to enable staff under their control
to understand the risks involved in the activities they undertake and how
to control those risks.

The staff member ensures that first aid and emergency procedures are in
place and followed when required.

Environmental

The staff member identifies and reports environmental hazards in the


workplace. They rectify simple hazards at their worksites without
direction and report them accordingly. They also participate in
Environmental Risk Management activities.

They select work methods that minimise environmental risk and apply
appropriate control techniques.

They are able to identify where standard guidelines may not be


appropriate and suggest appropriate modifications. They understand and
comply with the site environmental management plan.

The staff member understands and applies the correct procedures in


relation to disposal of waste materials and equipment.

The staff member demonstrates knowledge of RTA’s commitment to


improving environmental performance.
Quality

The staff member understands the quality requirements of the tasks they
perform and the reason for those requirements. They perform
measurements to confirm quality both during and on completion of the
work and can compare the results to engineering plans or specifications.
They complete related quality paperwork correctly.

The staff member achieves the basic quality standards required for the
functions for which they have been assessed as competent or have been
formally trained by following established quality procedures.
