Does Glitter Glue Affect the Stretchiness Of Slime?

One day I was making two different types of slime, glitter glue slime and regular glue

slime. They both had the same texture, but each slime felt a little when I would pull and stretch

them. That’s when I realized that one of them had to be streachier. So I tested it out to see which

one, the glitter glue slime, or the regular glue slime is stretchier. ​ I hypothesized that if I used

regular glue, then the slime would be stretchier.

How Do You Make Slime?

There are several steps to making slime. You first get a bowl and put glue in it. You can

also add food coloring, but that is optional. Then you take liquid starch also known as Sta-Flo

and add it to the bowl with glue. The glue and Sta-Flo will combine together if you mix it. It will

start to clump up. Once you feel like you can hold the slime, start to play with it and knead it

until it is not sticky anymore. Once you are done playing with it, keep it in a sealed container to

keep the slime from drying out (Tools).

What are Amorphous and Crystalline Solids, and Which Is It?

Amorphous and crystalline solids are two different things. Crystalline solids have an

arrangement of atoms and molecules that are repetitive and are in a regular formation. A

molecule of water is an example of a crystalline solid (Crystalline). But atoms do not have an

ordered atomic structure. Crystalline solids and amorphous solids are the complete opposite.

Plastics are amorphous ( Encyclopedia).

What is the Difference Between Glitter Glue and Regular Glue?

Glitter glue and regular glue are two different types of glue. They have different

ingredients. Glitter glue has cornstarch, fine salt, hot water, vinegar, and glitter. Regular glue is

a bit different because it has water, cornstarch, light corn syrup, and white vinegar. As you can

see, glitter glue and regular glue are slightly different based on their ingredients (Homemade).

Why Do Some Objects Have More Elasticity Than Others?

Elasticity is found in objects that have the properties of polymers. If you mix up the

ingredients in polymer, it will make more objects more elastic than other objects. Elmers glue

has polyvinyl in it. Polyvinyl is basically a man made polymer. Borax and Sta-Flo react to

polyvinyl to create acetate with elasticity. If you put too much Sta-Flo or borax in the slime, it

can make it more solid and less liquid. The ratio of Borax or Sta-Flo to glue is important to have

the perfect elasticity.

How Do You Accurately Measure Elasticity?

To measure elasticity you need a measuring tape. Take the measuring tape and stretch it

out on the floor as long as it can go. Have a peer go on on end and take the slime and stretch it to

see how far it will go. When the slime eventually breaks, see where it broke and compare that to

where the other slime broke. Then you can record the results (Slime).

What is Viscosity and How Does Viscosity Relate to Slime?

Viscosity is the resistance of fluid flow. The more viscous a substance is, the slower it

will flow. A great example of this is water and ketchup. Ketchup is much more viscous than

water. When Borax or Sta-Flo is added to slime, it becomes more viscous. The more of these

substances one uses, the more viscous it becomes. In order to make really good slime, it is

important to have the right combination so that the viscosity is perfect ( Rohrig )!

I hypothesized that if you use regular glue, then the slime will be stretchier. ​When I first

started this experiment, I was measuring it and thought that the regular glue slime would have

more elasticity. About halfway through measuring the slimes, the measurements started to

change. I noticed that the glitter glue slime could stretch farther. Then the measurements were

pretty close at the end. I hypothesized that the glitter glue would be less stretchy, but it turns out

that the glitter glue actually caused the slime to be more stretchy! I was wrong.
