Jarrett Hull

Senior Capstone 3A

Mrs. Maynard

November 13, 2017

My senior project is a financial analysis because when I graduate I plan on becoming an accountant. My

mentor just graduated from Keene state for financial management and is now a general accountant for Fugi film

company. So it worked out nicely for my interview because I can interview him about the job I plan to one day

aquire. Meaning I can get a good insight in preparation for my future experience.

1. What other professions do you work closely with?

● All levels of finance

2. What promotions are associated with your profession?

● General Accountant II, III, IV. Accounting Supervisor.

3. Are there any aspects of your job you weren’t expecting or you didn’t realize were as relevant as they are.

● Most aspects of my job were not taught in school.

4. What part of college helps you most now, as in what classes or subjects that helped prepare you the most.

● Excel classes helped me the most. In accounting, you use excel for almost everything.

5. Are there any fun parts of your job or around your job people might not know about.

● The environment is very relaxed, and even in month end you don’t feel super rushed or stressed out.

6. Is there anything in college you wish you had taken because it would've helped out a lot now.

● More classes in Finance, if they offered them.

7. Are there any skills that would get you benefits in your job i.e language or class.

● Excel skills, using V-lookups, pivot tables, and macros.

8. What aspects of your job do you learn most from?

● Account Reconciliation during month end, and always finding news things to learn about in Accounting.

9. Are there any people in your job that helped mentor you and help you get into things?

● Yes, I was trained by the previous Accountant that handled Accounts Receivable and Credit Management.

10. Are there any special benefits that come along with your job i.e. travel.
● Great pay, great environment, no dealing with people other than co-workers.

During this interview I didn’t hear what I expected. I was assuming college would teach you exactly what

you need an my mentor informed me that college doesn't prepare you at all for the real thing. He informed me he

learned more about accounting in the first month of his job then all 4 years of college. I was also expecting more job

opportunities and benefits. Granted my mentor works at a film company and is 1 out of 200 other employees at his

workplace. I presumed that they would have the accountants going to different cities to discuss possible financial

pathways in possible transactions between companies. But my mentor explained that all he does is sit at a desk all

day and completes all the work given to him. As for the promotions I was hoping for something a little bit more

exciting then Accountant 1,2, and 3. After this interview I must say I’m a little disappointed in the capabilities of an

accountant.
