Vision

To develop the Department of Mechanical Engineering into a center of excellence to produce Mechanical
Engineers of highest quality to meet the rapidly evolving global needs of industry and society.

Mission

To develop the Mechanical Engineering Programme through Design and Development of Mechanical
Systems and innovative research and to inculcate among the students, the leadership qualities and
professional ethics.

Programme Educational Objectives

1. Graduates of Mech Engg will take up responsible roles in industry, will be outstanding and eye catching
in their professional careers/as entrepreneurs.

2. Graduates of Mech Engg will pursue higher studies and excel in multi-disciplinary research activities.

3. Graduates of Mechanical Engineering will demonstrate leadership qualities, ethical attitude,


communication skills and acceptance to current technologies through engagement in lifelong
learning to meet the change in societal needs.

Programme Outcomes

1. Graduates will demonstrate basic knowledge in mathematics, science and engineering.

2. Graduates will demonstrate the ability to design and conducts experiments, Interpret and analyze data, and
report results.

3. Graduates will demonstrate the ability to develop a mechanical system or a process with desired
specifications and requirements.

4. Graduates will demonstrate the ability to function effectively individually, also as a team member in
multidisciplinary activities.

5. Graduates will demonstrate the ability to identify, formulate and solve mechanical engineering problems.

6. Graduates will demonstrate an understanding of their professional ethical responsibilities.

7. Graduates will be able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms.

8. Graduates will have the confidence to apply engineering solutions in global and societal contexts.

engineering problem.

Introduction to the philosophy and application of Total Quality Management in the context of organizational and
cultural change dedicated to the continuous improvement of products and services. Some of the ideas and topics
covered are: international quality awards, quality management systems (ISO 9000), benchmarking, reengineering;
teaching of Deming, Juran, and Crosby, management of change and implementation of TQM.
