Abstract: WRONG RESOURCE CONTROL PROJECT SELECTED WHEN STARTING DATABASE USING SRVCTL
*** 10/27/06 07:53 am ***
Description:
Oracle RAC documentation suggest configuring resource control limits (shared
memory etc) in Solaris's project database (/etc/project). So, we then have
an
entry in the project database:
ax‐shm‐ids=(privileged,256,deny);project.max‐shm‐memory=(privileged,4294967296
,deny)
If we start Oracle manually using sqlplus all is well:
SQL> startup
ORACLE instance started.
Total System Global Area 167772160 bytes
Fixed Size 1977176 bytes
Variable Size 121640104 bytes
Database Buffers 37748736 bytes
Redo Buffers 6406144 bytes
Database mounted.
Database opened.
SQL> exit
$ id ‐p
$ ps ‐u oracle ‐o pid,user,project,args
PID USER PROJECT COMMAND
processes are now running with the correct resource control settings
configured.
If the database is started up by Oracle CRS (cluster ready services) we see:
$srvctl start database ‐d SUN
$ps ‐u oracle ‐o pid,user,project,args
PID USER PROJECT COMMAND
5006 oracle system ora_mmnl_SUN2
5013 oracle system ora_s000_SUN2
4892 oracle system ora_psp0_SUN2
4970 oracle system ora_ckpt_SUN2
5073 oracle system ora_lck0_SUN2
4931 oracle system ora_lms1_SUN2
4927 oracle system ora_lms0_SUN2
4888 oracle system ora_pmon_SUN2
4976 oracle system ora_cjq0_SUN2
4937 oracle system ora_dbw0_SUN2
5619 oracle system ora_q000_SUN2
project.
This means that if the Oracle database is dependent on specific resource
controls, the relying on CRS to start the database will not work.
As a workaround we can configure the resource controls for the system
project, and then force the system project resource controls to be loaded on
boot.
