MASTER A PROVEN SYSTEM OF MENTAL AND SPIRITUAL EMPOWERMENT Magical Use of Thought Farms is a extraordinary exposition of a fundamental esoteric technique. While background theory is well covered, the heart of this book lies in practical techniques, the vast majoriry of which have never appeared in print before. These are advanced magical methods that have all heen tested in the field. Detailed and accurate visualization is the basis of 99 percent of magical ing, Bur if visuatization remains no more than simple imagery, it will not tr give the results required by the serious occultist. Mental constructs need to be linked to the actual manipulation of astral matter, In Magical Use of Thought Forms, you will learn the art of observation and neve visualization techniques that both train the inner eye to build eorrect images and improve manipufation skills when dealing wich astral matter Finally, you will be shown how ra build up a specific collection of imaginal “patterns” that can be used as an astra! construction set, allowing comples structures to be created. A WORD ABOUT BONA FIDES ‘rus 1s SueH AN ODD book that a word af explanation is requited it’s written, in collaboration, by two authors who, between them, have man- aged [much to their own amazement) to collect more than a century of experi- ence in the occult arts, Since ir's no harm to know your mentors, here’s whe they are and how they got together: Dolores Ashcraft-Nowicki was born on jersey, one of the Channel Islands that lie between the southwest coast of Britain and the coast of France, She was ten years old when World War If broke out and the Nazis invaded, necessitating her evacuation onto mainland Britain. Thete she endured the Blitz on Liverpool night after night, cooped up in air raid shelters listening to the drone of German warplanes overhead, the ack-ack fire and the rerrifying explosions as sticks of bombs reduced the city to rubble, yen as.a child, Dolores showed signs of what was then called “being fey,” an expression that has no real modern counterpart but carries the feel of someone who isa lirtle otherworldly, a little psychic, « licte imaginative, a little eccentric. Ir-was no surprise, She came from a fey family. Both her parents were Third Degree Initiates of the Western Mysteries. Household conversation tended to center on spiritualism, ghosts, Theosophy, and other esoteric matters. But the emotional pressures of war were to change the feyness into something else, something much more richand strange. One night, listening to the crump-crump of the approaching bombs, Dolores found herself... elsewhere. ‘AWORD ABOUT BONA FIDES china the house where the family had been billeted by the War Office, stood a hastily built and cotally inadequare homb shelter. It consisted of a conerete base and a square structure, rwo bricks in thickness, with another layer of eonerete for 4 roof, Insicle were wooden benches and nothing else, In this thmsy building the family passed night after night as the raids contin ued. The nose, tearyand daily death of school triends had taken its toll on the young mind, and brought ir close co breaking, point. During one particularly bad raid, Dolores was sitting with hor head in her mother’s lap, fingers itt her ears when something happened that was to change her life. The noise died away, the fear began to lessen, and she could no longer fee! the presstire of her mother’s arms around her: Lifting her head, she found herself in an entirely different place. She stead on a plateau set amid high snow-envercd mountains. Sparse, stunted bushes grew here and there and although she did net feel it, she knew tt was normally extremely cold here. Before her was a fire that offered her a sense of warmth and welcome. Seated around it in a silent circle was a group of oranye-robed figures. One raised his head. It was a young face, bout with eyes that were centuries old, He smiled and indicated that she should take her place in the cirele, which she did It scemed to the child thar she stayed for many hours soaking in the silence, the peace, and, above all, the companionship of those around her. Nothing was said during chat visit, oF che subsequent visits that occurred as the Battle of Britain continued. She learned thar she was taken only when the danger was greatest, when it seemed that her mind must give way under the weight of fear The hombing finally cased as Hitler realized that it accomplished nothing and drained his resources. Ou the final-visit to her snowbound plateau, Dolores was silently directed to observe the mountainous background, as if to fix it in her mind, She knew then it would be her last rime here, and it was at this time that informarton was put into her mind that all this had been for a purpose. She was also infornaed that hese people had once been part of her life and she was among friends who could be called upon when the need was great. Over thirey years larer, she recounted this story to her teacher, the late W. E. Butler, describing, the strange outline of the mountains. Wirhour a word he got up and fetched a hook from his library. He operied it at a picture of high, snow- covered mountains. "They were instantly recognizable. Butler explained that in this area there had been for centuries a lamasery of a spectal kind, and thar it still existed. She had, he told her, been given protection to safeguard her imma- x A WORD ABOUT BONA FIDES ture mind from excessive trauma and that she was by no means the only one under such protection, She hadn't understood it at the cine, of couzse, but clearly something had wanted to make contact. Ir was a presage of things 16 come. ‘While all chis was going on, across the water in Ireland Herbie Brennan was also beginning to chart his earliest esoteric experience—albeit of a very different sort, He was a precocious child, addicted to reading from an carly age. But his choice of reading was bigarre. In place of Enid Blyton arid Rupett Beas, he began te devour books on yoga, oriental mysticism, and, above all, hypnosis. He hyp- notized his first subject. a school friend, when he was only nine. In his teens he began a study of mesmerist, which many helieve to be an early form of hypnosis, bur isn’t. Mesmerism involves the manipulation of subtle ener- ies, with results quite different from hypnotic trance, The interest in subtle energies drew him toward magic, but books on the subject were at a premium in Ireland at the time, Then one day while searching on a market stall, he-came across a little work titled Magic, Its Ritual Power and Pirpose, which purported to contain infor- mation about the mysterious “Kings of Edom” briefly mentioned in the Bible. ‘The author was somebody called W. E. Butler. Herbie bought the book, Days Jates, he began hunting for the author’s other works and eventually obtained a copy of The Magtcian, His Training and Work, which described training tech- nignes used in the Western Esoteric Tradition. ‘There was a London coaract address at the back of Butler’s books, reeom- mended by Burler for chose who wished to go further in their esoteric srudies—it was the address of the Society of che Inner Light. The Society of the Inner Light was founded by the psychic and eceultist Dion Fortune (Violet Penry-Evans, née Vielet Ficth), who was herself trained by the Hermetic Students of the Golden Dawn, a magical Order that initiated the Irish poet William Burler Years and his nemesis, Aleister Crowley, Ir offered training based on the Qabalah, a potent system of ancient mysticism and magie that forms the foundation of the Western Bsotetie Tradition, Dolores survived the war and trained as an actress at R.A.DLA. (the Royal Academy for the Dramatic Art), but alongside her career ambitions was a grow- ing incerest in magic. One day while on a visit ro London, she went to the old Aquarian Press store to pick up a tarot deck for her mother: There were some sevotidhand books on the shelves, and among them she diseavered a medieval xr AWORD ABOUT BONA FIDES grimoire, one of the nororious “black books” of magical practice. She was leaf- ing through it avidly when a hand fell on her shoulder, “You don’t need that,” said an ominous voice, “You need this.” She turned, and the shop’s proprietor handed her a copy of a little book titled Magic. le’s Riewal Power and Purpose. Herbie Brennan took nearly two weeks to apply for training with the Society of the Inner Light. Dolores—and her husband, Michael—had their applications in the post withirr three days. Their training involved four years of daily meditations and visualizations along with eheoretical study of the ancient tradition, Detailed records were kept and submitted, with membership of the Society open only to these who com pleted the course, Few did. Magical training was [and still is) very hard work. Herbie was initiated into the Sociery of the Inner Light on his ewenty-fourth birthday, the absolute minimum age the Sociecy would accept a full member at the time, Dolores anu her husband were initiated in 1968, Herbie and Dolores managed to miss one another completely. Herbie’s initial training was at the hands ef Margaret Lumley-Brown, a psy- chic of the highest repuration even among thar company of magicians, She was the Society's ower cosmic mediator and an expert, from first hand experience, on the world of faery, Dolores’ official mentor in the Inner Light was C. C. Chich- ester, its warden, bur her most abiding influence was the man whose little book had set her on the path four years hefore—W. Ernest Butler, goth Dolores and Herbie eventually left the Inner Light in good standing, still Without meeting one another: Herbie began to cast around for ways to extend his esozeric experience and stumbled on a five-year training program called the Helios Course, written hy Gareth Knight and fun by W. Emest Butler. He promptly signed up. Dolores; meanwhile, was taining personally as a Cosmic Mediator with Emnest Butler, (Butler himself had been trained ditectly by Bishop Robert King and Dion Fortune, who founded the Inner Light.) Tes almost a rvlief to learn that while it took several more years, Dolores and Herbie got tonether eventually. By then Dolares had become Director of Studies for the Seevants of the Light, the international Mystery School that developed out of Exest Butler's Helios Course. Herbie, a loner by inclination, had a lengthy period of esoteric practice under bis belt, including reincarnation research and 2 specialization in the Astral Plane. There wasn'r much stopping them before they met, but there was na stopping them afterward. AWORD ABOUT BONA FIDES Over a period of years, Dolores Acheroft- Nowicki and Herbie Brennan embarked on a program of magical experimentition designed to advance the frontiers of es0- teric knowledge, a progsain that included work on: + evocation to visible appearance: + the creation of ghosts by ceremonial means; + contact with spirit entitiess + revival of ancient oracular systems: + gross psychokinetic effects; + astral projections + deep trance phenomenas + past life investigation, and mich, mach more. A great deal of their work involved the direct or indirect use of thought forms. Much of ic was concerned with the Astral Plane. The personal experience they obtained forms the foundation of the book you are reading now. fs a book that contains information published nowhere else, the fruits of many years of investigation, Some of it revults from research, some from experi- mentation, and some from daca supplied by Inner Plane sources in contact with the authors. You will learn about: + the Triangle of Causation: desire, emotion, and imagination; + the three-point location of occult power in the physical brains + the triune persona of a human beings « the Occult Art of Observation, Within the book are detailed instructions on collecting mental and physical images, information about dealing with perspective on the Astral Plano, instrac- tions on storing and recalling nonvistal memories of emotions, and building up desite as fuel for a potent astral engine. The use of advanced astral structures is dealt with in key segments covering: + the creation of an astral homunculus; + Egyptian comb guardians;
