Software Manual 1. Introduction to Wärtsilä Document Browser
Function Action
Click Tap the screen once with a single finger.
Right-click Hold a single finger on the screen (approximately 2 seconds) until a
small square appears around the touched area.
Double-click Tap the screen twice with a single finger.
Scrolling Hold a finger on a scroll bar or a document, and drag in the desired
direction.
Procedure
1 Connect the USB flash drive (or insert CD/DVD into the CD/DVD drive) to the
computer.
The WDB Installation window asks if you want to install WDB to the local drive.
● If you click the No button, WDB is run from the removable device and WDB can be
installed later in the Settings window (proceed to step 3).
● If you click the Install... button, the Install WDB window opens (proceed to step 4).
3 To install WDB to the local drive after clicking the No button in the WDB Installation
window, proceed as follows:
4 In the Install WDB window, click on the Browse... button and navigate to the folder
where you want to install WDB.
5 If you want to create shortcuts in Start Menu or on Desktop, check the appropriate
boxes.
6 When the folder and all desired options are selected, click on the Install button.

English is the default language for the user interface (UI), folder names and document
properties. The language settings can be changed in the Settings window.
Procedure
2 To change the user interface language, select the desired language from the
Language Settings drop-down menu.
The following document properties are shown by default in the preview window:
● Wärtsilä document identification number
● Title
● Description
● Tags
You can change the properties to be shown, and change their order of appearance.
Procedure
The Settings window opens. Under Document properties, on the right side are shown the
optional document properties which are currently hidden, and on the left side the properties
currently displayed in the document list.
3 Use the arrow buttons to move the selected property to the desired location.
The tree-folder structure is used for navigation through folders. By default, only the root
folder or the highest level folder is shown. To get to lower level in the folder structure, click
on a folder icon. Same action is used to close the current folder and get higher in the folder
structure.
Documents in the selected folder are shown in the Document preview window. The first
page of the document is shown in a thumbnail.
NOTE
Thumbnails are displayed only for the documents that are in .pdf format.
Tags are user assigned keyword describing the document. Tags help user to find
documents faster. To add tags to the document, proceed as follows:
Procedure
1 Right-click on a document.
NOTE
To delete a tag, select the tag and click Remove button.
New tag is shown in the left panel of the Document Tags window.
Procedure
Document is added to Favourites, and can be accessed through the tree-folder structure, or
quickly from Favourites.
Postrequisites
NOTE
If the document is already marked as Favourite, instead of Favourite button,
there is Unfavourite button in right-click menu. This button removes the
document from Favourites.
Documents can be searched by typing the desired term in a search bar, and clicking the
Search button or pressing Enter. The searching engine has full-text capabilities. It runs
through the documents' metadata and the content of the documents.
Thumbnailed documents containing the searched term (either in the metadata or in the
document content) are displayed in the Document preview window. The documents with
the searched term in the metadata are shown first, before the documents with the searched
term in the content.
Lines of text next to the thumbnails show details about document. Information shown can
be changed in the Settings window. By default these document properties are shown:
1 Document ID
2 Title of the document
3 Description of the document
4 Place where the searched term was found (either in a metadata field or the content).
NOTE
In the figure above, the searched term was found in the metadata field
"Description". If it were found in the content of the document, "Match in:" would
state "Content".
Symbol "%" can be used as a wildcard in a searched term. It can substitute for one or more
characters in the searched term.
To find out specific folder, where the document is located, right-click on a document
thumbnail.
A drop-down menu opens.
● Below Document locations are shown all the folders, that contain selected document.
Click on any on of the folder to open the folder in WDB and to show all the documents in
the folder.
● Click Show in File Explorer in the menu to open folder containing the document in
default file explorer.
A document can have multiple files. To see all files that belong to the document, right-click
on the document.
A drop-down menu opens.
The files contained in the document are shown under the Files In Document line.
Click the filename to open the file.
Procedure
Document preview window serves as PDF Viewer when documents are opened.
In the PDF Viewer you can:
● view .pdf documents
● print documents by clicking on the Print... button.
● for quick access of documents, add the document into Favourites in the tree-folder
structure panel by clicking on the Favourite button.
● right-clicking anywhere in the document to open a menu which includes options for
rotating and zooming the document.
● view a document in a full screen mode by clicking on the Full Screen button.
● scroll the document by holding a finger or mouse pointer on the page, and dragging in
the desired direction.
Procedure
2 Select a printer.
Procedure
Document is added to Favourites, and can be accessed through the tree-folder structure, or
quickly from Favourites.
Procedure
The document is opened in the Full Screen mode. To close the Full Screen mode, click on
the Exit Full Screen button in the upper left corner of PDF Viewer.
To return back from PDF Viewer to the Document preview window, proceed as follows:
Procedure
1 If you opened the document from the selected folder, click on the Back to Folder
button in the upper left corner of PDF Viewer.
The Document preview window opens showing the documents in the selected folder.
2 If you opened a document from the search results, click on the Back to Search button
in the upper left corner of PDF Viewer.
When a document is opened in PDF Viewer, the first page is shown. To zoom the document
to make it readable, proceed as follows:
● To zoom in, click on the Zoom In button.
Procedure
PDF Viewer contains the Back to Folder, Zoom In, Zoom Out, Print..., Open, Full Screen,
Favourite, and Search buttons, and a search bar. When the width of the window is not
enough to display all of them, some buttons are moved to an overflow menu, which can be
opened by clicking on the Overflow icon.
The following figure shows an example of the Overflow menu containing the Open, Full
Screen, Favourite, and Search buttons, and a search bar.
Procedure
3 Add a name to the folder. To rename the folder later, left-click on the name of the
folder.
NOTE
Only empty folder can be deleted. If the folder is not empty, first delete all the
documents in the folder.
6 To create a subfolder, right-click on the existing folder and in the sub-menu click on
New Subfolder button.
The user can add documents to a folder. The user can only delete documents that has been
manually added. The manually added documents are recognized by the orange color of the
property text.
● To add a document into the folder, right-click on the folder or in the Document
preview window.
● In the drop down menu, click on the New Document... button.
NOTE
Quick way for adding a document to a folder is to drag and drop the document
into document preview window.
● To delete a document from the folder, right-click on the document and in the sub
menu click on Delete document... button.
● Prompt dialog opens. Click on the Yes button to confirm removing the document.
Procedure
3 In the Open window, browse the folder structure to locate the desired database file.
The database was imported, and documents can be browsed and viewed in Wärtsilä
Document Browser. The imported database is shown as the active database (see Changing
an active database).
To update documents in Wärtsilä Database Browser, follow the procedure for Importing
database.
NOTE
If a newer version of a document is uploaded, both documents will be displayed
in WDB. Remember to use the newest version of the document.
Procedure
4 Click on Browse... button, and select the folder where you want to save the database.
The Add Database window closes, and new database is shown in the Databases list in the
Settings window.
Procedure
NOTE
The active database (marked with a green sign) cannot be deleted.
An active database is the database currently used in Wärtsilä Document Browser. It is the
database which documents are shown in WDB and can be viewed in PDF Viewer. To
change the active database, proceed as follows:
Procedure
Wärtsilä Document Browser will now restart automatically, and the active database is
changed.
5. Troubleshooting
Documents are not indexed for full-text searching
File path is not shown complete
Full-text search result doesn't show document which contains searched term. To solve this
problem, Microsoft Office 2010 Filter pack must be installed. To install Filter Pack, proceed
as follows:
Procedure
3 Browse to the folder where you downloaded the MS Office Filter Pack installation file
4 Double-click on the file. Confirm any dialog asking you whether you are sure about
installing it.
5 Answer Next to all questions, tick that you accept the License Agreement
Microsoft Office Filter Pack is installed.
Error is caused by too long file path (including database name). Length of file path is limited
to 260 characters.
To solve this problem, choose different folder for database so complete file path doesn't
exceed 260 characters.
NOTE
Don't forget to delete old database (database with too long filepath).
