ArchiCAD offers computer aided solutions for handling all common aspects of aesthetics and
engineering during the whole design process of the built environment buildings, interiors, urban
areas, etc.Development of ArchiCAD started in 1982 for the original Apple Macintosh is an
architectural BIM CAD software for Macintosh and Windows developed by
the Hungarian company Graphisoft. ArchiCAD. ArchiCAD has been recognized as the first CAD
product on a personal computer able to create both 2D and 3D geometry, as well as the first
commercial BIM product for personal computers and considered "revolutionary" for the ability to store
large amounts of information within the 3D model.

ArchiCAD comes with features Can Work with parametric objects that allows the user to work with
data-enhanced parametric objects, often called "smart objects" by users, and also allows the user to
work with either a 2D or 3D representation on the screen. This differs from the operational style of
other CAD programs created in the 1980s and with Two-dimensional drawings can be exported at
any time, even though the model in the program's database always stores data in three dimensions.
Plans, elevations, and sections are generated from the three-dimensional virtual building model and
are constantly updated if the user 'rebuilds' the view. Detail drawings are based on enlarged portions
of the model, with 2D detail added in.
AutoCAD LT is the lower cost version of AutoCAD, with reduced capabilities, first released in
November 1993. It is also a commercial software application for 2D and 3D computer-aided design
(CAD) and drafting — available since 1982 as a desktop application Autodesk developed AutoCAD
LT to have an entry-level CAD package to compete in the lower price level. AutoCAD LT, priced at
$495, became the first AutoCAD product priced below $1000. It is sold directly by Autodesk and can
also be purchased at computer stores (unlike the full version of AutoCAD, which must be purchased
from official Autodesk dealers).

As of the 2011 release the AutoCAD LT MSRP has risen to $1200. While there are hundreds of
small differences between the full AutoCAD package and AutoCAD LT, there are a few recognized
major differences in the software's

AutoCAD LT features: 3D Capabilities: AutoCAD LT lacks the ability to create, visualize and render
3D models as well as 3D printing. Network Licensing: AutoCAD LT cannot be used on multiple
machines over a network. Customization: AutoCAD LT does not support customization with LISP,
ARX, and VBA. Management and automation capabilities with Sheet Set Manager and Action
Recorder and CAD standards management tools.
Autodesk Revit is building information modeling software for architects, structural engineers, MEP
engineers, designers and contractors. When a user makes a building, model, or any other kind of
object in Revit, they may use Revit's rendering engine to make a more realistic image of what is
otherwise a very diagrammatic model. This is accomplished by either using the premade model,
wall, floor, etc., tools, or making her or his own models, walls, materials, etc. It allows users to
design a building and structure and its components in 3D, annotate the model with 2D drafting
elements, and access building information from the building model's database. Revit is 4D
BIM capable with tools to plan and track various stages in the building's lifecycle, from concept to
construction and later demolition.
Revit can be used as a very powerful collaboration tool between different disciplines in the building
design sphere. The different disciplines that use Revit approach the program from unique
perspectives. Each of these perspectives is focused on completing that discipline's task. Companies
that adopt the software first examine the existing work flow process to determine if such an elaborate
collaboration tool is required.
MicroStation is a CAD software product for two and three dimensional design and drafting,
developed and sold byBentley Systems. The latest versions of the software are released solely
for Microsoft Windows operating systems, but historically MicroStation was available
for Macintosh platforms and a number of Unix-like operating systems. MicroStation is the platform
architectural and engineering software package developed by Bentley Systems, Incorporated.
Among a number of things, it generates 2D/3D vector graphics objects and elements. Current
version is MicroStation V8i. it also provide accurate materials lists for every item included in the
design, Sequenced schedule for construction, check for interferences between objects, publish all
drawings automatically on a public website and provide a client/owner a detailed model of their
entire plant including its virtual operation for training and testing.
DataCAD is a computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software for 2D and 3D architectural
design and drafting, developed and sold by DATACAD LLC, also runs exclusively on Microsoft
Windows-based operating systems, and was one of the first PC-based CADD programs developed
specifically for architects. DataCAD is the only CADD software ever to be endorsed.
A student, Eric V. Smith, began developing a program he called Apple Draw on an Apple
II at University of Virginia. After he graduated in 1984, Mr. Smith was hired by an architectural firm,
Stuart Griffin Burgh and Associates, in Charlottesville, Virginia. At this firm he began porting the
Apple Draw program to the Corvus Concept platform as DataCAD. In 1984, only one license of
DataCAD was sold before it was ported to the IBM PC platform. DataCAD was developed
exclusively for the MS-DOS operating system until May 1998.
SketchUp (formerly Google Sketchup) is a 3D modeling computer program for a wide range of
drawing applications such asarchitectural, interior design, civil and mechanical engineering, film,
and video game design—and available in a freeware version, SketchUp Make, and a paid version
with additional functionality, SketchUp Pro. SketchUp is currently owned by Trimble Navigation, a
mapping, surveying, and navigation equipment company. The company was independent from 2000
to 2006 and owned by Google from 2006 to 2012.

The program's authors describe it as easy to use. There is an online open source library of free
model assemblies (e.g. windows, doors, automobiles), 3D Warehouse, to which users may
contribute models. The program includes drawing layout functionality, allows surface rendering in
variable "styles", supports third-party "plug-in" programs hosted on a site called Extension
Warehouse to provide other capabilities (e.g. near photo-realistic rendering), and enables placement
of its models within Google Earth
QCAD is a free computer-aided design (CAD) software application for 2D design and drafting. It is
available for Linux, Apple OS X,Unix and Microsoft Windows. The QCAD GUI is based on the Qt
framework.QCAD is released under the GNU General Public License. Precompiled packages are
available for 32-bit and 64-bit GNU/Linux platforms, MS Windows OS and OS X.

QCAD is developed by RibbonSoft. Development on QCAD began in October 1999, starting with
code from CAM Expert. QCAD 2, designed to "make QCAD more productive, more user friendly,
more flexible and increase its compatibility with other products"began development in May 2002.
QCAD 3 was first released in August 2011 with a very complete and powerful ECMAScript
(JavaScript) interface as major addition. Some of the interface and concepts behind QCAD are
similar to those of AutoCAD. QCAD uses the AutoCAD DXF file format internally and to save and
import files. AutoCAD DWG support is available as a commercial plugin.
SolidWorks is a solid modeling computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided
engineering(CAE) software program that runs on Microsoft Windows. The SolidWorks is produced
by the Dassault Systèmes— a subsidiary of Dassault Systèmes, S. A. based in Vélizy, France—
since 1997. SolidWorks is currently used by over 2 million engineers and designers at more than
165,000 companies worldwide. In 2011–2012, the fiscal revenue for SolidWorks was reported $483
million.

Design intent is how the creator of the part wants it to respond to changes and updates. For
example, you would want the hole at the top of a beverage can to stay at the top surface, regardless
of the height or size of the can. SolidWorks allows the user to specify that the hole is a feature on the
top surface, and will then honour their design intent no matter what height they later assign to the
can. Features refer to the building blocks of the part. They are the shapes and operations that
construct the part. Shape-based features typically begin with a 2D or 3D sketch of shapes such as
bosses, holes, slots, etc. This shape is then extruded or cut to add or remove material from the part.
Operation-based features are not sketch-based, and include features such as fillets, chamfers,
shells, applying draft to the faces of a part, etc.
TurboCAD is a CAD software application for 2D and 3D design and drafting which runs
on Macintosh and Microsoft Windowsoperating systems. TurboCAD was released at about the same
time as Generic CADD in the United States. Both TurboCAD and Generic CADD’s marketing
objectives were the same – create a viable, low-cost competitor to AutoCAD. But because Generic
CADD launched in the U.S. before TurboCAD, it received much more positive press about its low
price, (approximately $600 originally), and quickly achieved a large and loyal customer base. The
release of Generic CADD in the PC market was, at that time, the biggest ‘CAD event’ since
Autodesk had reinvented CAD pricing with its initial release in 1981.

TurboCAD was first sold internationally by IMSI in the United Kingdom in late 1986. In 1992, IMSI
took over Pink Software’s London office and successfully re-launched the product in the UK
marketplace.
Via CAD 2D/3D uses of computer systems to aid in the creation, modification, analysis, or
optimization of a design. CAD software is used to increase the productivity of the designer, improve
the quality of design, improve communications through documentation, and to create a database for
manufacturing.[2] CAD output is often in the form of electronic files for print, machining, or other
manufacturing operations.
May also be used to design curves and figures in two-dimensional (2D) space; or curves, surfaces,
and solids in three-dimensional (3D) space. It is mainly used for detailed engineering of 3D models
and/or 2D drawings of physical components, but it is also used throughout the engineering process
from conceptual design and layout of products, through strength and dynamic analysis of assemblies
to definition of manufacturing methods of components. It can also be used to design objects.
Furthermore, many CAD applications now offer advanced rendering and animation capabilities so
engineers can better visualize their product designs. 4D BIM is a type of virtual construction
engineering simulation incorporating time or schedule related information for project management.
Rhinoceros is commercial 3D computer graphics and computer-aided design (CAD)application
software developed by Robert McNeel & Associates; an American, privately held, employee-owned
company, that was founded in 1980. Rhinoceros geometry is based on the NURBS mathematical
model, which focuses on producing mathematically precise representation of curves and freeform
surfaces in computer graphics (as opposed to polygon mesh-based applications).

Rhinoceros is used in processes of computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided manufacturing

(CAM), rapid prototyping, 3D printing and reverse engineering in industries
including architecture, industrial design (e.g. automotive design, watercraft design),product
design (e.g. jewelry design) as well as for multimedia and graphic design.[2]

Rhinoceros is developed for the Microsoft Windows operating system and OS X. A visual scripting
language add-on for Rhino,Grasshopper, is developed by Robert McNeel & Associates.
