   ● Kelly Gallagher’s Article of the Week: Visit this site to access weekly
FCS Website  informational articles to read aloud to your students to build content
knowledge. “Kelly recognizes that part of the reason his students struggle with
2017-2018 reading is because they lack prior knowledge and background. They can decode the
Calendar words, but the words remain meaningless without a foundation of knowledge. To
help build his students’ prior knowledge, he assigns them an Article of the Week
2017-2018
Testing Calendar every Monday morning.”

Master Schedule ● Please email Anna Frost with any additional questions regarding the use of Achieve
3000 and Vocabulary.com.
Early Release
Schedule ● Ms. Ball has student Benchmark 2 booklets in her office for you to use for
remediation and review of data. Please take this opportunity to plan with your team
to use during RAM Time. Reminder… Ms. Ball also provided you with an
electronic copy of the Benchmark by grade level via email.

Strategy of the Week: ERT - Everyone Read Till….

ERT is an effective reading comprehension strategy for students who have difficulty
reading text silently and / or struggle staying focused while reading for understanding.
ERT helps all students understand the importance of reading for a specific PURPOSE.
Remember… Providing a PURPOSE for reading is key!
Steps:
● The teacher reads a question aloud to students. Ex. Everybody read pg. 1 till you
find out_______________________. (Literal)
● Students will raise hand when the answer is found and stops reading.
● When all or most of the students have hands raised, ask someone to answer the
question. (require all students to respond to the question in writing)
● The teacher asks another question aloud. Finish reading pg. 1 and figure out how
_______________ based on the information presented. (inference)
● Students must provide supporting information from the text in order to answer this
type of question.
● Repeat process listed above.
Dr. Patricia Cunningham describes the what, why, and how for ERT.

REMINDER: Achieve 3000 - Achieve 3000 should be used as part of the core
curriculum in ELA, SS, and Science classes across disciplines; selectively choosing texts
that align to the content being taught. Please ensure all students are meeting the target of
two Activities per week with a first-try score of 75% or higher.
