Commitment to Students and Student Learning developing as expected

-At first, the Grade 11/12E class was hard to accommodate all the different levels of learning, but over the
past weeks I have developed a better understanding of how to ensure the all students are being pushed to
their full potential.
-I always encourage all students to participate in the lessons as that usually enhances their learning.
-My AT and I take the extra time to adjust the lessons to suit the needs of that particular group of students.
Starting with allowing students the time for self-discovery of topics has been a very effective strategy.
-I offer my time during lunch to help students who have any additional questions.
-I do not look past the students who seem disinterested in math, but rather place an even greater focus on
them to ensure all students feel valued. This directly impacts the success of all students.

Knowledge developing as expected

-Overall, I think I have a good understanding of the curriculum. I look at the curriculum thoroughly before
making my lessons to ensure all topics are being addressed.
-When making lessons my AT places emphasis on making sure you know what they would have previously
learned, as well as, what they are going to have to know for the following year so that the transition between
grades is smooth for the students.
-Having to teach a course that you have not taken is quite difficult. This being said, I take the time to review
the material before any Data lessons that I am teaching to make sure I can help the students and answer any
questions they may have.

Teaching Practice developing as expected

-I think my oral and written communication skills are good, but I need to work on the pace. I tend to talk too
quickly, but I have learned that I need to speak in such a way that my lowest student understands.
-I always try to relate my lessons to real life experiences so the students can make connections to their work.

I use technology quite a bit, especially, in the Grade 11 Essentials class.
-I struggled a lot with classroom management at the beginning of my placement, but I have improved. I
decided that making your classroom an environment where you take the time to get to know your students
and show your appreciation towards them the respect will come. I feel this strategy is more effective than
creating a very strict atmosphere and it is a much more enjoyable place to be.

Professionalism developing as expected

-I arrive early to school every day and stay later to get work done.
-I am always happy to be there and I am thoroughly enjoying the learning process.
-I have a very positive relationship with my AT and my students. This being said, my AT can always depend
on me getting my work done on time and doing a good job at it.
-I dress professionally every day.

Leadership and Community developing as expected

-This biggest thing I have learned is the importance of flexibility and adaptability. My AT and I are constantly
improving past and current lessons, tests, assessments, etc. in such a way it gives all students an equal
opportunity to succeed. Students are not the same year to year so you must take the time to adapt your
lessons to suit that specific group of kids. For example, our grade 10 applied students learn best through
games and puzzles so we try to implement that into their lessons whenever possible.

Ongoing Professional Learning developing as expected

-My AT gives very thorough feedback daily which is extremely helpful. I try my best to take what she says and
make tomorrow’s lesson even better than the last one.
-My AT and I are constantly collaborating to come to come up with new resources. We co-invented a math
game we called “MAD― that helps students with the topic of factoring. This is normally a very difficult
topic for most students, but after playing this game most of the students developed a good understood of
factoring.

COMMENTS
Teacher Candidate's Growth Plan

-The one thing I struggled with most so far has been classroom management. It takes time to develop
different strategies that work best for you so I plan to keep exploring different ways until I discover the
one’s that suit my style of teaching best. After taking my AT’s advice and making the lessons more
personable with stories or connections to real life has directly influenced my ability to manage the class. As
soon as the students got the chance to know me and realized I’m just a regular person like them they
instantly began to respect me.
- I am going to read through the articles my AT gave me on effective questioning and try to implement the

different strategies that they pose into my teaching.
-I have also found that it would be easy to simply go up to the board and read from slides and let the kids
take down notes, but that is not how they learn best. As a future teacher, I am going to make the effort to
create lessons that relate to real life and are hands on as it directly impacts students learning.

By submitting this self-assessment form, I agree that I have consulted with my associate teacher
