1. Cooling and heating loads shall be calculated using ASHRAE Handbook Fundamentals as a
guide.
2. Where pressurization is specified, area shall be supplied with a minimum of 2 air changes
per hour of clean, filtered outside air in excess of any exhaust air from area. Pressurization
air must be introduced by a forced air fan, preferably mixed with return air to air conditioning
unit.
3. Minimum outside air supplied to any normally occupied conditioned area shall be 10 percent
of the total circulated flow rate or 1 air change per hour, whichever is greater.
4. Evaporative coolers shall not be used unless specifically indicated.
5. All maintenance and laboratory equipment exhaust systems (if any) shall be analyzed and
designed using ACGIH Industrial Ventilation, latest edition and equipment manufacturer’s
recommendations as guides.
6. Make-up air shall offset all exhaust from the respective area.
7. Unless otherwise noted, cooling and heating load calculations shall not include any
allowances for future expansion or additional electrical equipment.
8. Cooling load calculations for electrical rooms shall include an appropriate allowance for the
heat rejection from all electrical equipment housed in the rooms. Consideration shall also be
given to the case where all heat producing electrical equipment is in an inoperative mode.
The minimum design space temperature shall be 5°C when all electrical equipment is off and
electrical room ventilation equipment is also off.
9. Minimum ventilation rates given in Table II as "Air Changes/Hour" are preliminary estimates.
All air changes rates will be calculated based on equipment heat rejection rates and design
indoor/outdoor temperatures. Calculated air change rates will be shown on a later revision of
this specification.
