Abstract

This paper looks at the Pharmaceutical (Pharma) industry and the progressions that have
happened especially in the course of the most recent 10 years as a consequence of the general
financial downturn, the increasing expense of social insurance and the expenses connected with
the advancement and offers of pharmaceuticals. One reaction of huge Pharma to this has been
the late spate of associations, mergers and acquisitions, combination, expansion, permitting
assertions and cutting back in both human and capital assets. Four noteworthy difficulties
confronting the unpredictable Pharma industry are highlighted and talked about. These
incorporate the decrease in the revelation, endorsement and showcasing of new concoction
elements with less and less blockbuster drugs making it to the market, rivalry from generics
drugs, administrative weights and the powerless development and hence the need to investigate
different markets to give some examples. Notwithstanding the examination driven part of the
paper, an outline of the meetings led with officials and other industry specialists (to get their
own perspectives) is introduced.

At last referencing a portion of the systems adjusted by a few organizations, this proposal
recognizes Organizational Dynamics territories of fixation and the part they can play inside
organizations in their arrangements to guarantee long haul suitability. The investigation
concentrates on the business parts of the business and offers a few stages that will be valuable
in evolving the present plan of action and setting the phase for future achievement.

2.1 Description/nature of the job

In Neotec Medical Service Limited I have worked as a Business Development Officer. As a

service and product oriented company the major responsibilities were to visit the clients
physically and take the requirement for their medicine and medical instruments. I have done
some other works too. In the following, there is a short description of my work.

JOB Responsibilities:

Mass/Direct Marketing:

Medical Service Limited is mainly works internationally. Recently they have started mass
marketing. For this reason they have recruited some Business Development Officer and I was
also an officer of them. In a new market their need some mass marketing where capturing and
increasing client profile is very important. So there need some field work. In a week at least
one days I have visited 1-2 offices per day for meeting clients. Also I have visited those clients
who called me on phone.

Taking Requirements:

By visiting clients directly and giving them our offer/proposal who were interested to give
order to us, I have visited there again to take the requirements for medicine and medical
instruments. Sometimes we show some samples for attracting clients or giving them an idea of
our work in laptop presentation.

Maintain Database:

After visiting of our clients when I came to the office, I have putted all the visited information
to our office database for future work. This database was always updated by me. From this
database I have called the clients time to time for knowing their updates. This will help to keep
in touch with the clients. Phone call is very much important for imported medicinal business
in Bangladesh as it is not so much well known to our country and people have lack of
information about it.

Managing Clients:

Understanding a client in this sector is a very tough work. There are lots of organizations where
the owners are very educated and they does critical analysis of our products. I have done many
presentation on our products to several clients, how the system works and why they are

11 | P a g e

necessary for a medical organization. This direct marketing helped me because I have closely
monitored the client’s behavior and their demand. So understanding client’s psychology is an
achievement for me.

Different Aspect of Job Performance:

During my internship program my job performance was an important issue for myself as well
as for the company. As I was a member of local marketing team where, it was a challenging
task for me to perform perfectly. Throughout the three months’ internship period first month
was my training period. In the first month, my learning was perfect to work in field. From the
second month, I have started field work as well as the office task. I have managed 7-8 work for
the company which was as impressive as a new employee for our firm. My supervisor was very
pleased for my work watching my efficiency. There was some lacking in my work too. As a

sometimes I made several mistakes which were taken care by my supervisor.

Initial Idea Exploration:

The origination of a new business idea can come from a variety of sources. It may come from
the board room of an existing business or a group of producers sitting around the kitchen table.
Regardless of the setting, you may want to use the following approach to formulate the business
concept. Anytime during steps 1 and 2 you may decide that your idea is not viable, in which
case you may want to abandon the idea.

Forming a project committee - Creating a good project committee involves bringing together
individuals who have the business development skills needed to investigate the idea/concept
and carry through with business formation if the concept is viable.

Formulation of general business idea(s) or concept(s) - Define your business idea/concept and
describe why it has merit. Your idea may involve filling an unmet need in the marketplace with
a new product, providing an existing product in a new form, producing a product better or
cheaper than competitors, or other ways in which value can be added. Remember, an idea is
only viable if people are willing to pay you for what it provides. For example, a premium
product is only viable if someone is willing to pay more for it.

Identifying alternative business models or scenarios for the idea(s) - A business model
describes how the business will function in producing the product or service and providing it
to the customer. A business scenario is a logical assemblage of the essential business elements
starting with raw materials procurement and ending with the sale of the final product, and all
the stages in between.

Investigate idea/concept and alternative business scenarios - Conduct an initial informal

investigation of the validity of your idea. Investigate the scenarios or models. Early in the
process this may be nothing more than a series of telephone calls to knowledgeable individuals.
Does your idea make sense? Identify business scenarios/models for further study and eliminate
those that are not viable.

Business Plan Preparation:

If decided to proceed with creating a business, business plan is must. A business plan is an
outline or blueprint of how to create a business. If feasibility study is conducted, it will provide
some of the information needed for the business plan. Also, business planning often involves
the use of consultants. However, it is not recommended to turn the process completely over to
a consultant, rather to stay integrally involved in the planning process.

Although planning can involve considerable time and effort, it is the easiest part. Implementing
the plan is much more difficult. Many prospective businesses experience problems or failure
due to the improper implementation of their business plan. This step requires commitment and
dedication. Unforeseen problems will emerge.

Implementing a business plan will include, but is not limited to:

- Creating a legal structure

- Securing market access
- Raising equity and securing financing
- Hiring management/staff
- Constructing facility

Other

There are some steps followed for taking an idea and making a viable business from it. These
steps will not guarantee success. However, they will increase the odds of success.

3.1 Problems:

During my internship period I have the opportunity to work closely to see the overall
performance of the company, how they are performing business activities and day to day
activities. From that perspective I have found some challenges, which is indicated below.

 Outdated Inventory System.

 Lack of CSR Activities (Corporate social responsibilities).
 Size of the market
 Neotec medical services ltd. sales activities are small market size.

3.2 Analyzing the Issues:

Outdated Inventory system:

Neotec follow manual handwritten system for their inventory system.

Instead of manual Process they can use Inventory management software, a computer-based
system for tracking inventory levels, orders, sales and deliveries. It can also be used in the
manufacturing industry to create a work order, bill of materials and other production-related
documents.

Some to quality software which has been used in various companies and they are quite happy
with it. From secondary source I am recommending some software’s like- RICS software,
BizSlate software.

Corporate social responsibility (CSR)

CSR refers to business practices involving initiatives that benefit society. A business's CSR
can encompass a wide variety of tactics, from giving away a portion of a company's proceeds
to charity, to implementing "greener" business operations. Neotec Company is doing some
CSR activities. But to make some noise in the market they have to do more CSR activities.
Some suggestions on CSR is given below:

- Blood Donation campaign

- Poor patients fund raising program
- Publication of health care journals to update the professional knowledge of doctors

17 | P a g e
‘Business analysis of Neotec Medical Service Limited
and the review of its Management Practices’

- Awareness campaign on health and health care

- Donate medicine to the government relief fund during natural disasters
- Disburses its corporate Zakat for relief of distressed people every year.

Partnering with large Bangladeshi companies and Foreign Companies

Partnering with large Bangladeshi companies and Foreign Companies is no less important, the
top companies built a robust leadership team that rallied their organization around a compelling
vision and embodied a relentless drive toward achievement. Notably, many of the companies
were led by senior executives who remained in top positions for several years, thus bringing
stability in a period of great change. These executives also excelled at succession management
and grooming the best of middle management for future leadership opportunities.

Similarly, small companies that want to grow quickly will need to attract and retain talented
leaders. To recruit the right kind of professional talent, these firms will have to make a
compelling business case for why a particular candidate should come work for their company
as well as offer the right incentives—such as equity in the company—in return for the risk.
Partnering will help the expansions through new products.

- The forward integration of pharmacy and health care services is resulting in health care
kiosks owned by pharmacy companies or health care companies
- The kiosk will promote the integrated health managed care, using the best medical
equipment and targeted treatment solutions.

Size of the market

The size of the market is quite narrow as at present as there are small number of customer
available. The main reason behind the small number of customers are lack of adaptation of new
technologies and unwillingness to pay more for quality healthcare services. Besides handling
of these machineries requires expert personnel who needs to pay more. Moreover, the stuffs
need proper training to use these medical instruments and machineries. Since there are a lot of
subsidiary cheap products available, most medical and health care organizations use those
products as alternatives.

18 | P a g e
‘Business analysis of Neotec Medical Service Limited

3.2 Recommendations

Neotec Medical Services Limited tries to ensure better quality and better management. The
staffs demonstrate their knowledge and experience with sheer professionalism. Despite these
efforts some shortcomings may remain and there is always an opportunity to overcome those.
Throughout my study, I have found that they have some opportunity that they can adopt. On
the basis of my understanding and observation I am proposing the following recommendation
to the Neotec Limited:

1. Neotec Medical Services Limited should adopt proper Material Resource Planning.
Often it is seen that more materials been ordered and been kept in the warehouse for
years which increases the holding cost and as well as puts pressure on the ending stock.
Moreover, it is being seen that production is being hampered due to shortage of proper
raw materials, whereas the warehouse is filled in with some costly low used materials.
So, proper Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) policy should be followed to keep the cost
down.

2. The Advertising expenses of Neotec ought to be decreased and this is important to make
the promoting individuals mindful of their calling.

3. Neotec Limited follows manual handwritten system for their inventory system. Instead
of manual Process they can use Inventory management software, a computer-based
system for tracking inventory levels, orders, sales and distribution.

4. Neotec has contract with many insurance companies. They have insurance on their each
and every material as well as their asset. The management should negotiate with them
to reduce their insurance premium charges. If one or two company is allowed to do all
kinds of insurance through negotiation, Neotec will be able to reduce their expenses.

5. Neotec Medical Services Limited imports a major portion of their materials from
foreign countries which costs a huge amount. In Bangladesh, there are some factories
which can provide those at cheaper rate. So, if quality materials are available, then they
must go for the local purchase to minimize cost.

4.1. Conclusion:

The pharmaceutical area has as of now been proclaimed as the push part by the administration
of Bangladesh. Bangladesh has constructed a solid standard and going towards the
independence for the generation of solution. In the meantime, a few organizations have begun
to create antibody, insulin, anticancer medications, and so on. Our pharmaceutical ventures are
effective in residential market. Industries in Bangladesh including some world class
manufacturing industries that are providing 97% of the total medicine requirement of the local
market. In Bangladesh Pharmaceutical division is a standout amongst the most created
greetings tech part that is contributing in the nation's economy. Pharmaceutical segment is one
of the express mounting division in Bangladesh. It is most created logical division. There are
250 enlisted pharmaceutical organizations working in Bangladesh pharmaceuticals industry.
Pharmaceuticals market is currently significantly powerful. Neotec Medical service ltd. is the
focuser company of medicinal services organization in Bangladesh.

The pharmaceutical sector has already been declared as the thrust sector by the government of
Bangladesh. Bangladesh has built a strong baseline and going towards the self-sufficiency for
the production of medicine. Meanwhile, some companies have started to produce vaccine,
insulin, anticancer drugs, etc. Our pharmaceutical industries are successful in domestic market.
Now, it’s the time to grow our international market because we passing golden time getting the
opportunity of patent exemption by the TRIPS until 2016. Besides the above discussing points,
providing cash incentive by the govt. to the medicine exporters, like RMG may encourage
pharmaceutical exporters. International fair arrangement by Export Promotion Bureau (EPB)
is a very effective way to search buyers and to establish business in a new country. A lot of
initiative have been taken by BAPI in different times, such as, high level pharmaceuticals
delegation team visited foreign countries to explore export initiated by BAPI. This organization
also upheld the demand and urged to the government and other concerning authorities for API
Park, Bioequivalence test laboratory, Central drug testing laboratory, cash incentives, problems
in remit transfer and sample sending etc. But many issues are yet to resolve. We have already
wasted our valuable time and still losing to build our infrastructure for export. We should
complete our infrastructure as soon as possible because TRIPs patent protection may be
adopted to us after 2016. The government should really be attentive to remove all the obstacles
and solve all the problems to see pharmaceutical sector as a vital player in international market.
