The function of the dehydration unit is to reduce the water content of the incoming gas to an acceptable
level for gas transportation pipeline. The Dehydration equipment which will be used in GTP Phase II
rehabilitation:
Molecular Sieve Inlet Separator V-2401, Molecular Sieve Inlet Filter Coalescer F-2401, Dehydration
Inlet Heater E-2402, Molecular Sieve Dryer V-2402A/B/C, Dry Gas Filter F-2402A/B, regeneration gas
heater E-2403, regeneration gas cooler A-2401 and Regeneration Gas KO Drum V-2403.
The feed gas of Dehydration Unit, in the original condition, is coming from HP gas cooler A-2101, The
feed gas is cooled by the De-methanizer Reboiler E-2501 from 54.5°C to 47.8°C. Gas is further cooled
by Gas cooler E-2401 from 47.8°C to 27°C. Cooling in E2401 is achieved by propane chilling.
In phase II of rehabilitation project, demethanizer reboiler E-2501 and gas cooler E-2401 will be
bypassed. Dehydration unit inlet gas temperature will be higher than 27°C, this temperature will be
affected by ambient temperature and it will vary accordingly.
Saturated vapor from V-2401 is routed to a Molecular Sieve Inlet Filter Coalescer F-2401 where
entrained droplets of liquid are separated. Wet gas from filter coalesce F-2401 flows to Molecular sieve
dryers and a slip stream is fed to Dehydration inlet heater E-2402 so that the total gas is preheated by
2°C using hot oil, This is done to avoid any retrograde condensation in the molecular sieve beds caused
by pressure drop.
In phase II of rehabilitation project, the inlet gas temperature of dehydration unit will be higher than
27℃ making the inlet gas water content higher than the design water content. To avoid unit overloading,

a bypass line will be constructed around dehydration unit to control the amount of wet gas entering the
mol sieve beds, which will help avoiding desiccant damage or lifetime shortening. The bypass line will
be from D/S of dehydration inlet separator V-2401 to D/S of Dry gas filter F-2402 A/B, so that any
condensed liquid is separated before the gas is bypassed.
The Dry gas from molecular sieve beds is filtered by Dry Gas Filter F-2402 A/B in order to remove
desiccant dust and other particles of 1 micron and larger.
The dry gas from F-2402 A/B is sent to D/S of PV-2501-41 via a new constructed line which will
bypass the Gas/Gas Exchanger E-2502.

Regeneration gas is taken from D/S of dry gas filter and compressed by Regeneration Gas Compressor
C-2401A/B (in normal operation condition) so that the gas can be recycled back to U/S of dehydration
unit. Regeneration gas compressors are fully damaged hence, a bypass line will be constructed around
the regeneration compressors, and the regeneration gas will be routed to gas export line. The flow rate of
regeneration gas will be controlled by flow controller acting on flow control valve installed at the outlet
line of regeneration gas KOD V-2403.

Regeneration gas is routed to regeneration gas heater E-2403A/B, regeneration gas temperature will
vary according to regeneration phases (gradual heating, heating and cooling). Regeneration gas enters
the bed that completes the drying cycle (16 hours) from the bottom and leaves it from the top.
Regeneration gas from regeneration bed is routed to regeneration gas cooler where the outlet
temperature is reduced as low as possible to remove excess water and reduce the water content of the
outlet gas. The regeneration gas from Regeneration gas cooler enters Regeneration Gas K.O Drum V-
2403 to separate condensed liquid, then the regeneration gas will be diverted to export line D/S of PV-
2501-41.

The liquid from dehydration unit (from dehydration inlet separator V-2401, Molecular Sieve Inlet Filter
Coalescer F-2401 and Regeneration Gas KO Drum V-2403) will be sent to D/S of Test separator.
