UNIVERSITY OF THE ARTS LONDON

INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS 20010/2011

GUIDELINES FOR APPLICANTS

The University of the Arts London International Graduate Scholarships aim to

promote postgraduate study at each of the six Colleges of University of the Arts
London. These awards will be offered to international students (this excludes EU
students) with the ability and potential to make an exceptional contribution to the
worlds of art, design, communication and performance. We encourage applications
from those who feel they will benefit from further study to realise their full potential.

The International Graduate Scholarships are only applicable to sucessful

applicants in the 2010/2011 academic year.

The scholarships will be awarded to carefully selected students accepted to study on

one of the designated MA programmes at the University of the Arts London, for
enrolment in academic year 2010/2011. Further conditions are detailed below:

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for a University of the Arts London International Graduate Scholarship,

applicants must be:

accepted for a full-time MA from the designated list, at one of the six Colleges
of University of the Arts London.
AND
be an undergraduate student expecting to graduate with a good bachelors
degree (with Honours) from a Higher Education institution by 31 July 2010.
OR

Education institution

OR (for applicants without a bachelors degree)

Terms of the Scholarships

Each International Graduate Scholarship is worth the tuition fees of the selected
course. Tuition fees will be paid directly to the University. Successful candidates
must bring their award letter to enrolment.

Applicants must enrol on their programme in the same academic year for which they
have applied for funding. If any applicant is unable to do this for any reason, the
scholarship will be withdrawn.
Requirements of Scholarship Holders

Scholarship holders are expected to attend all timetabled classes and tutorials,
excepting periods of absence due to illness. Attendance will be monitored and any
student with an unacceptable attendance record risks termination of their
Scholarship.

Award holders are expected to attend a small number of College and University
events where scholarship support to potential donors will be promoted. Such events
may occur during and/or after completion of the award holder’s course.

The University will terminate the award if registration lapses on any grounds, other
than temporary suspension of study due to extenuating circumstances. These
circumstances must be drawn to the attention of the relevant course director through
formal procedures and upheld by the College Extenuating Circumstances Panel.

Applying for a Scholarship

The applicaton form can be downloaded from the University’s website. Please note
that students on programmes with portfolio requirements must also provide a
copy of their portfolio with the application form. We realize you may have
already submitted a portfolio with your course application however as these portfolios
are often returned to students or destroyed, we will require you to submit a new one.
We will only accept portfolios in CD Rom format or via a weblink if you have a
website.

The number of applications we receive for these Scholarships far exceed availability
and therefore many applicants will be unsuccessful. It is extremely important that
your application form is fully and accurately completed and submitted on time as we
will not accept late or incomplete applications.

For courses starting in September/October 2010, your completed application

must be received by email, fax or post by 14 June 2010 at 5:00pm GMT.

For courses starting in January 2011, your completed application form must be

Assessment Procedure

Applications will be assessed according to merit by a selected panel of tutors at the

College where you will be studying. The Panel may request to interview applicants.
Face to face interviews will be held in London. If you cannot attend in person,
arrangements will be made for you to be interviewed by video-conference or
telephone. Candidates who are selected for interview will be notified of this by
telephone and email.

The Panel will make their final selections by marking the quality of application and
interview (where applicable), the preparedness for high quality study in the discipline
area, and the articulation of how an International Graduate Scholarship will contribute
to the applicant’s long-term career aims.

Notification of Scholarship Outcomes

Successful applicants will be sent an email and an award letter which may be
required for visa purposes. The award letter will be posted to the correspondence
address on your application form. You must inform us in writing if your address
changes so that we can contact you at the correct address.

Award winners will receive an acceptance form with their award letter and this
acceptance form must be returned by post, fax or email as soon as possible. If you
do not consent to the terms and conditions of the scholarship, it will have to be
withdrawn.

Applicants will be ranked, in order of priority, and held in reserve. Should any of the
recipients chose not to accept their scholarship, or do not enrol for any reason, the
University will inform the next most successful applicant immediately should a
scholarship become available.

Unsuccessful applicants will be informed of the final decision by email so please do

not telephone us to ask about the outcome of your application as our staff are not
authorised to give out this information over the telephone.
