Chapter – 1
PROBLEM DEFINITION
The objective of the project is to develop an e-commerce website for a company that wishes to
set up a grocery business on a wide platform. The company seeks to attract customers from all
over Delhi. The website would be named as “mygrokkart.com”. This Delhi-based website would
deal in a number of grocery items, mainly fresh produce, dairy products, meat, frozen food,
bread, cereal, rice, and pasta, staples and miscellaneous foods, ready-to-eat packs and household
Building Sales and Profits: The major objective of the website is to sell products and earn
the highest profits possible. However, there might be a major competition from other retailers
like mass merchandisers. One strategy to counter the competition would be to serve more take-
out meals. These ready-to-eat meals would serve the customer sector that is looking for
convenience. It would also offer non-food products to build sales and profits. The aforesaid
strategies would help focus on the customers who are more interested in one-stop shopping.
Increasing Customer Traffic: Small grocery store companies also strive for more customer
traffic in their stores. The best way to achieve high customer traffic levels is to locate stores
in high-traffic areas. This may include business districts or areas close to residential or
apartment buildings. Customer traffic can also be enhanced by providing plenty of parking
spaces and easy access to and from major roads. Owners can also increase customer traffic
by providing proper lighting and security for those who shop at night. To overcome all such
1
problems and achieve high customer traffic level, online business is the best alternative to be
chosen amongst others as it can be easily accessible without any security, lighting or parking
issue.
Building Customer Loyalty: The website aims to increase customer loyalty in their stores.
Loyal customers are those who repeatedly come back each week. One way to builds a repetitive
customer base is through loyalty programs. Loyalty programs are designed to reward
customers according to their purchase volumes. These rewards can include coupons on
popular items or even free products, discounts and cash back up to a certain limit.
Improving Department Ratings: Another aim of the website is to improve its department
ratings. The grocery company would conduct periodic marketing research on their various
departments: fresh produce, meat, and dairy and also how the services are provided to the
customers. The impetus behind such research is that grocery stores are only as strong as their
weakest links. Customers expect high-quality food and exceptional service when shopping
for groceries. They expect the quality and service to be the same whether they are shopping
for dairy products or produce. Marketing research agencies would be hired to conduct phone
surveys among customers. Each department then might be rated on quality, service, cleanliness
and other key factors. The website is also likely to use a 1-to-5 rating scale for each of the
attribute ratings -- with 5 being the highest. Customers should be encouraged to make
comments on their ratings. That way grocer can study the survey results and make the
are turning to the web for a variety of purposes. The internet is no longer limited to searching
information or connecting with people but is a platform where you can also buy and sell
products. An ecommerce website is a website which allows a business to sell products and services
to its online audience. These days, an increasing number of consumers prefer making most of their
purchases online and in such a scenario, having an ecommerce website for the business is the need
of an hour.
Wider Customer Reach: Selling a product or service through a national or global platform
of an ecommerce website can help reach out to a much wider audience as compared to
traditional commerce methods. This gives a broader audience and hence possibility of better
overall sales.
Ability to be Open 24/7: With an ecommerce website, it allows audiences to purchase from
you not just during regular store hours but throughout the day. Whether it is Sunday or a
national holiday, the e-store is always opened. This too helps boost the sales.
Better Conversion Rates: No matter how popular a brand is, if conversion rate is low, then
profits will be low. Having an ecommerce platform helps increase the conversion rate since
people get a chance to immediately buy from website rather than wait to visit the store.
Easier to Set Up: An ecommerce platform is definitely much easier to set up and run than an
actual physical store. A good website development and management platforms is required
which can easily do this task at reasonable rates. It is not just easier but also a lot cheaper.
3
Reduced risk & increased profitability: To manage and run an online store, a smaller
workforce is needed thereby increasing margin between profits and spending. Also, there is
an advantage of reduced risk which adds to the list of the benefits of having an ecommerce
store.
Having an ecommerce website gives a certain competitive edge to the company over those who
may still not have gone online. Customers these days are looking for the easiest and cheapest
way to make their purchasing and thus search online for their desired products and services. In
such a case, presence of an online store not only helps retain existing customers but also attract
new ones.
There are many advantages of purchasing online with grokkart.com as opposed to shopping from
Saving time in terms of driving to a physical grocery store, standing in the line at the
Less likely to overspend if purchase from grocery online rather than a visiting a physical
grocery store. It happens with everyone; a person goes to the grocery store with a shopping
list and wind up walking out of the store having bought a million other things which were
A great help to physically handicapped or impaired people by preventing them from the
physical labour associated with grocery shopping. It proves to be a necessity for them more
than a convenience.
4
People can shop anytime they want at their own convenience i.e. 24 hours a day and 7 days a
week.
People can automate their grocery deliveries so that frequently purchased grocery items are
Primary Research involves the collection of original primary data. Primary data is collected
directly by interviewing and questioning the owner of the website. The questionnaire is as follows:
3) Who are your potential customers? Kindly elaborate regarding your target market.
6) Do you have a logo you plan to incorporate or will need one to be created?
7) Do you want to include a tagline as well? If yes, do you have any preference regarding one?
8) Name 3 things that are the most and the least important in the design of your website?
9) Do you want the website to comprise of videos and audio clips as well?
11) What features does your competitors’ websites have that you wish to incorporate?
5
12) Do you want any feedback form to be included so that your customers are able to reach you
in a better way?
However, Secondary Data refers to data that was collected by someone other than the user.
Secondary data collected for the website is through magazines, newspapers and journals and also
The information for development of Grokkart has been taken from the following shopping

Project planning is part of project management, which relates to the use of schedules such as
Gantt charts to plan and subsequently report progress within the project environment. Initially,
the project scope is defined and the appropriate methods for completing the project are
determined. The Gantt chart would illustrate the start and finish dates of the terminal elements
and summary elements of a project. Terminal elements and summary elements comprise the
work breakdown structure of the project. It would also show the dependency (i.e., precedence

network) relationships between activities. It would also show the current schedule status using

Chapter – 2
Groceries are sold no matter what the state of economy is. One can stop going to cinema and
restaurants but there’s no way to live without toothpaste, soap and veggies. Caught in the cities’
fast pace, tedious commuting and extended working hours, many customers do not have time to
However, the solution to this big problem is buying the groceries from online stores. The
purpose of this website is thus to help the customers especially working as well as non- working
women buy groceries and daily household necessary items with one click. The website aims to
provide an ease of shopping the daily needed products even during the odd times. Moreover, the
aged people who find it difficult to step out of their homes to buy one item specially can do so
with just one click while completely relaxing at homes. Being a mobile-friendly website, its
Block diagram has been used to explain the functioning of the website.
