The Education Undergraduate Society arranges and provides Professional Development
workshops for education students at the University of Lethbridge. This letter is written at the
request of Alexa Haugan who attended the following seminars during the months of
January and February of 2018:
Tuesday January 23rd: Richelle Marynowski: "Puzzles and Problems for Numeracy"
Explore commercial games and puzzles that can be used to develop numeracy in students. Be
prepared to come and play!

Wednesday January 24th: Lance Grigg, Monique Sedgwick, Josh Markle: “Chess, Executive
Function and Youth in the Criminal Justice System”
The Faculty of Education, Alberta Justice and the Faculty of Health Sciences are teaming up to
deliver a new program that will see youth being sentenced to learn chess as part of their
probation. See how this project will help develop executive function in at-risk youth.

Wednesday January 31st: Abby Salm: "Personal Inquiry Project: Teacher Mental Health &
Bell Let’s Talk Mental Health"
As part of Bell’s Let’s Talk Day Profession Semester III Graduate Abby Salm presents her
Profession Inquiry Project on prolonging teacher mental health throughout the school year.

Tuesday February 6th: Doug Checkley: “Working with Refugee Students”


Come explore how to welcome and support refugee students into your classroom and help set
them up for success.

Thursday February 8th: Beth Cormier & Robin Bright: "Book Bites for Secondary School
Readers"
The spiritual successor of the Professional Semester I Book Talks, Book Bites is a crash course
on the diverse selection of literature that teachers can bring into secondary school classrooms.
