Public schools K-12 in Arizona have banned the teachings of ethnicity studies, which
has furthermore brought students to avoid learning those of color that have shaped the
US today. Through taking these privileges away the government has also decided to
end ethnic studies as well in college levels of education. Representative Bob. Thrope
® of Flagstad says, the House Bill 2110 would ban college level learning, classes,
events, and activities. He states, “ Advocates of the bill say that courses that
encourage students to see issues through specific lens - like race, religion, or gender -
foster resentment, not understanding.” Students that learn more about their past are
most likely to rebel rather than follow laws. The article also states that the government
is willing to taking funding out of these programs in order to get rid of the ethnic
studies. Those schools that don’t comply with the bill will lose more money rather than
gain, becoming a negative side of advocating ethnic studies.

What did you learn about from this text?

What I learned from reading was the reason why the government wants to prevent
students from learning about ethnicities. They believe that students would rebel
against education and adults. What they don’t know is they could learn more from it
and it'll furthermore prevent violent discriminating events.

Analysis and Application: How might this source help you better understand the

you write your essay? Why or why not?

This will cover the importance of learning about ethnicities and why ethnic studies
should be provided at schools. This is a source that’ll help to my point of why public
education needs to support students more when it comes down to learning about their
background history.

Surveillance at public schools have increased due to the violence that has uprised
in the past couple of years. Traumatic events such as Sandy Hooks shooting, brought
up this attention of need for extra surveillance. But through this increase, it also
increases the division between races, surveillance is seen more in schools with people
of color rather than private schools or public schools that have more population with
white students. Private schools should have more forms of surveillance due to the
higher chances of white children feeling more privileged. Students of color are focused
on more due to their history and reputations that were made through tv shows, and
movies. .

What did you learn about from this text?

The increase in surveillance is what causes violence between different races. Why
schools prefer to put extra surveillance in schools where its overpopulated with people
of color rather than privileged students.

The public education system is required to help all schools and pay the schools per

student that attends. What the government does is pay certain amount of money

depending how privileged the students are. If the school is surround more with people

of color the government pays less. The government pays less due to see students of

color having less of a chance of getting out of school. It also depends on where the

school is. If the school is held in an area of poverty or wealthy, schools can gain or

lose money. Data information from Center American Progress shows,”schools with 90

percent or more students of color spend a full $733 less per student per year than

schools with 90 percent or more white students.” That's why students are required to

attend school the money often depends on if a student shows up or not.

What did you learn about from this text? The amount of little effort the government
puts in to avoid giving certain amounts of money into education.

Analysis and Application: How might this source help you better understand the
topic of public education in the United States? Do you think it is a source that may help
you write your essay? Why or why not? This source gives me an input of how much
money is being put into schools by the government and as to why the government
gives less money to public schools that contain more people of color. This will help me
on my essay because I'm mainly focusing in on the effects students of color have and
how public education should require ethnic students how it'll affect students of color
and white people. This article will help lead up to that part of the essay.
