2. collaboratively complete reading comprehension questions based on The Arrival; 
3. practice defining and identifying the literary term character trait; 
4. use/deploy the reading strategy summarizing.

9:45-9:50  1. Review 1: Kahoot! (online) 
  ● Students use Smartphones to answer questions (individual or in pairs) on the 
  reading strategy making predictions and on the graphic novel form (content 
  taught last class). 
9:50-10:15  2. Activity 1: Continue “The Arrival” (ch. 4-6) and complete comprehension questions 
  BREAK 
10:15-10:30  3. Review 2: Making Inferences 
10:30-10:35  4. Activity 2: Character Trait (Literary Term) -- Think, Pair, Share 
10:35-10:45  ● On a Post-It Note, students will write their name and one character trait for 
  themselves. 
  ● Then, students will exchange their Post-It with a partner, and the partner will 
  write a trait for them 
  ● Share and discuss 
  5. Activity 3: Summarizing (Reading Strategy) 
10:45-11:00  ● On a Post-It Note, write a one-sentence summary of “summarizing” and 
  stick it in your file folder. 
  ● Share definitions 
  6. Activity 4: In-Class Graphic Novel Reading Groups 
11:00-11:25  ● Students will continue reading their graphic novels, in threes. 
  ● Students will use the guided notes provided, and place them in their file 
  folders for review. 
  ○ Pages 21 & 23 of “Stick-It Together Reading Responses” (making 
  inferences about character traits) 
  ○ Page “Stick-It Together Reading Responses” 
  ● Teacher will spend 5 minutes sitting and reading with each group. 
  7. Activity 5: Pre-assessment for next week’s concept/term: Topic 
11:25  ● On a Post-It, students will list one topic they have noticed in their novel.
