What IMMIGRATION
Why
Educational Philosophy and Beliefs:
My belief as an educator is that students will learn
through high expectations, constant support, close
family-teaching relationships, and effective
classroom management. In particular, this unit will
give me the opportunity to have students actively
engaged in meaningful discussion about
immigration, both in the past and present. I hope
that this will unit will support the students in
becoming good global citizens both in and out of
the classroom.
Teaching Methods:
-inform students about prominent immigrants
through literary nonfiction
-read and interpret information from read aloud
books and articles immigrants to identify
challenges faced and reasons for
immigrating/challenges faced as current
immigrants
-collaboration between students (turn and talk or
group work)
-gather information from the various informational
texts to create a country report.
-use technology, including the internet to research
and write a report on why people from a certain
country choose to immigrate, the challenges/assets
in their country, and the challenges faced once
immigrating.
