Objectives:
State your purpose/s for observing a particular class. Specifically indicate the theme you
wish to observe. Your theme may focus on learning and motivation.

The purpose of the classroom observation was observing about the classroom
management while having an activity in a grade 9 class. Particularly, the observer pays
attention on what is the classroom setting or what are the behaviours of the student and
also the teacher while conducting an activity.

Observation:
Write down your observations with substantial details about the theme you observe. Just
describe everything you observe, without interpreting any aspect of it.

The teacher started the class with a prayer and then gave the students the instruction
about the activity that they will be conducting. This activity is the performance of the
different folk dances which are the binislakan, sua ku sua, pangalay and sakuting dance.
This activity will serve as the practical test of the students. The teacher presented the
rubrics and some things to be considered to the students and then the activity already
started.
While having the activity, I observed that the teacher manages the classroom through
refraining the students from making noise and just focus on watching the presentation of
their classmates. Since the activity is presentation of the different folk dances, the teacher
is disciplining the students to watch while their classmates are performing so that the
effort of their classmates will not get wasted and the performance will help them to learn
more about these different folk dances.

Prospects:
Think about the benefits of the behaviors you observe in terms of what might be learned
from it that is/are useful in defining your own teaching philosophy and in rethinking the
way you should teach. Briefly discuss those prospects in this section.

The benefits of how the teacher manages the classroom while having an activity is it lets
the students be attentive and participative on the activity. It also helps the students to
learn more about the discussion by watching the presentations presented by their
classmates in the way of being more familiar of the steps and the dances discussed by
their teacher. I also noticed that it motivates the students to be more motivated in learning
and in paying attention to their practical test since they are enjoying from it and is also
learning from it.
It is useful in defining my own teaching philosophy in the way of giving me a lot of ideas in
the future of becoming a physical education teacher especially on times like this which is
having an activity. I am also thinking of applying these observations I have observed in
this class when I teach because I think it will be really helpful for me and for my students.

Issues:
Discuss the issues you see in the class you observe, particularly those that are directly
associated with the theme of your observation.

These are the issues that I have observed from the classroom observation:
1. Some students are not watching on their classmate’s presentation.
This issue is the most seen issue in the classroom while having an activity. Some
of the students are mostly not paying attention on the presentation and just do some
unnecessary things. However, the teacher manages these students by going to them and
ask them to pay attention on the performance of the students. The teacher also gives
punishment to each group if one of their member is caught in not paying attention in the
presentation. Through this punishment, the teacher was able to avoid the students from
watching or paying attention in the presenters.

2. Some presenters are not fully prepared in their presentation.

This issue might be considered to be the most disappointing issue for the students.
Knowing that their presentation will serve as their practical test and the teacher gave
them a lot of time to practice and prepare, the students must work hard for this activity not
just for their grade but also because their presentation will be a big help for the learning of
their classmates as well as for themselves. Even though this issue is present, the teacher
handles it well by giving the students a chance next time and of course teach them a
lesson for them not to repeat this and be more prepared next time.

3. Some students are laughing at their classmates while presenting.

This is another issue wherein is also most seen in the classroom while having an
activity. Some students are mostly laughing at their classmates while they are performing
wherein it causes the presenters to become distracted and become shy while they are
performing. However, the teacher handles this issue by going to these students and asks
them to not laugh to their classmates but rather appreciate and support them so that
when it is their turn to perform, their classmates will do the same.

4. Some presenters are not serious enough in performing.

Another issue that is disappointing for students is them not being serious enough
in performing in front. Laughing and not being serious while performing is a sign that they
are not prepared in their performance. It is also not good for them since laughing while
performing is like laughing at their own work in which it disgraces them and their effort will
be nothing since not being serious is like not giving their best efforts even though they’ve
worked hard for it.
Insights:
Reflect on your observation experience and focus on the new understandings you have
drawn from it. Report your new understandings or new insights in this section. Your
insights may be focused on the prospects or issues you discuss above.

With the help of the classroom observation, it gave me a lot of learning to be carried in my
future of becoming a teacher. These learning are being able to manage a classroom while
there is an activity. Observing the class, I was able to learn how to discipline the students
who are not paying attention and laughing at their classmate’s in the way of not making
them embarrassed. I also learned that giving the students enough time to practice for
their presentation will make them become more prepared in front. Knowing that in every
class, there will be a lot of issues to be encountered, I learned that it can be avoided as
long as the teacher knows how to manage the classroom properly. Also, I learned that
giving the students an activity after the discussion will help them to sink in the discussion
more and learn more from it. They will not just enjoy the activity, but they will learn at the
same time.
