Project options for Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein: All written projects to be

submitted to Canvas page for Frankenstein. All others submitted in their

appropriate formats.

Projects from which to choose:

A) Do any three of the four items on the mini multi-genre paper referenced on your original
handout, though follow these rules for the project, and not the ones mentioned there--each
entry should be between 200 and 300 words, except the found poem, which can be any
length as long as it serves its purpose (individuals only). If direct quotes used in the three
alternative writing pieces (not the found poem), use parenthetical references for page
numbers. MLA formatting as per usual.

B) Answer any three of the following essential questions. Each answer should be between
200 and 300 words. Each answer should be based on your own experience, study and
research and it should quote the novel at least once using parenthetical references
(individuals only). MLA formatting as per usual.
Essential Questions for Frankenstein:
● Can knowledge, progress or technological advancement ever present moral
liabilities?
● What consequences do we face when we do not accept responsibility for our
actions?
● What role does compassion play in the novel? Where is it present and where is it
absent?
● Who is the “monster?” Why?
● What becomes of human beings without love?
● After reading the novel, do you believe nature or nurture has more impact on
human development?

C) Using a Google slides, Powerpoint or Prezi format, create a presentation using images,
passages, quotes from the novel and sound that coordinate to answer any three questions above. For each
question, there should be three slides for a total of 9 slides. We will see the presentations in class. There
should be no need for you to narrate the presentation as it will be self-timed and each slide combined with
whatever sound you record will define it (can be done with one partner if desired).

D) Create a short film, properly constructed, whether story or documentary driven to discuss any
two of the questions above. The film should be no less than six minutes long and no more than 10 minutes
long and should be submitted with a screenplay or storyboard (title and closing sequences not included in
the timing). We will watch the films in class (can be done with a small group as well--see me to discuss
such a collaboration).

E) Consider a recent technological, scientific or medical advancement that is meant to benefit
humanity, or one that is, perhaps, imminent. Create a slide presentation (Google, Prezi, Powerpoint)
containing evidence from research you’ve read or studied to answer the following question: What are the
positive and negative effects/outcomes/impacts of the advancement in question? How did reading the
novel impact your conclusion as to what you believe? Be sure to cite your evidence and sources properly
with a works cited slide. Presentations should contain no less than 5 slides and no more than 9 slides
including the works cited slide. We will see presentations in class (can be done individually or with
groups of four or less).

F) Create a piece of artwork (painting, sculpture, drawing, etc) suitable for hanging or
presentation that depicts a major theme from the novel. Include 200-300 words describing your artwork,
quoting the novel at least once, discussing the theme you’ve chosen and how you presented it and a
signed permission slip from either Mrs. Donaldson or Mrs. Santana that indicates your original and
appropriate artistry (individuals only).

Consult rubrics for each project for grading possibilities--all projects due no later than May 12.

Note: Your final exam is a slides presentation called a PechaKucha. Each of you must build one
yourselves and it is a 20-slide project. You may want to consider this before you decide to do a slide
project here. Then again, this could be good training for your final project as well.
