Stippling – Amphibians and Insects

Science and art are both a means of investigation. Mind and hand come together to create and discover new
ideas and theories. Using the information you have gathered during pervious lessons, you will be responsible
to create your own scientific illustration using the stippling art technique.

To successfully complete this project you will need to first choose which animal you would want to create
using the stippling technique. Animals chosen can either be found in our countless books or via the internet
(feel free to use your phones or iPads). As you are studying and picking the animal you would want to
illustrate pay attention to the lights and shadows. Where would the darkest part of the animal be? Lightest?
How will those parts be represented using the stippling technique? Remember that stippling is a series of dots.
No lines should be used while completing the illustration.

Refer to the “Stippling” rubric to assist with the creation of your original stippling artwork. Feel free to ask
any questions!
