World

Nothing could be more familiar than the original Star Wars poster,
featuring Darth's head looming over our light saber-wielding
heroes. But that poster has gone through a lot of mutations in its
lifetime, as the movie journeyed across the globe. Here are some of
the weirdest and most obscure Star Wars posters in existence.

The very first Star Wars poster by Brothers Hildebrandt,

1976, before the film was introduced

Me too. I think Miklós is trying to prove that

Hungary makes the best science fiction movie 19

posters. And he's pretty much convinced me.

Hungary is tripping balls in the poster dept, and

it's awesome. 10

I'd love to see Hungarian Star Wars if it was based

on those poster designs.

I described the Hungarian posters to a friend

thusly: "It's like the guy watched the film once 9
and then got super high and painted everything
from memory."

I was gonna say, you can always spot the ones

from Hungary right off, because they're awesome. 5

And by 'awesome' of course I mean 'new desktop

backgrounds', thanks Vincze!

Tibor Helényi, the designer of the Hungarian Star

Wars posters died this week. There was an urban 10

legend going around for years, that he's never

seen any of the SW films before painting the
posters. He denied this in the last interview he
did, and said that he just enjoyed adding a couple
of creatures to the already existing universe of
Lucas.

These are the posters he did for Close Encounters

and RoboCop:
