Listening
(CD 1, Track 10)
Ross: Good morning, students! Welcome to Our
School, the morning news programme from
Miss Stone’s English class. I’m Ross, your
host this morning. Today, I’m talking with
Emma Bates. Hello, Emma!
Emma: Hi, Ross.
Ross: Emma, you’re here to tell us about Change the
World Day. So let me ask you, what is Change
the World Day?
Emma: Once a year, people all over the world do
something to help change the world. For
example, some people collect money, food or
clothes to help other people.
Ross: I see. Tell us, Emma, what did you do?
Emma: I helped Mrs Wilson, a woman in my street.
She’s very old and she can’t walk very well.
Mr Wilson died and now she hasn’t got any
family to look after her.
Ross: When did Mr Wilson die?
Emma: He died two years ago. He was a photographer
and he was famous.
Ross: Really? Why did he become famous?
Emma: He took pictures of many famous people. He
had a very interesting life. He travelled around
the world and met famous musicians, artists
and politicians.
Ross: Wow, that’s amazing! How did you help Mrs
Wilson?
Emma: I went shopping for her. Then I tidied her
house. Mrs Wilson saved Mr Wilson’s
photographs and she wants to sell some of
them. She’s planning to donate the money to
help people. We organised the photographs so
she can sell them.
Ross: So Mrs Wilson also did something to help
change the world yesterday. Change the World
Day is a great idea!
