SURFACE READOUT GYRO

The functions of multishot survey and single shot

 Measure the azimuth unlike magnetic multishot survey (MMS), gyro multishot (GMS)
can be install inside steel drill collars or steel casing because gyro does not effected
by earth’s magnetic field.
 Both of multishot and single shot survey tools has a timer to take a photographic
record of the azimuth and inclination at target intervals, and usually shots per
minute is one, two or three shots.
 Have the film to records the bottomhole data.

The function of surface readout gyro (SRG)

 Similar with single shot and multishot data collection (mention above). But, SRG
require more power that supplied through the wireline that are using in logging
while drilling (LWD) and wireline.
 In SRG, it has the latest instrument that more advanced that single and multi. The
SRG will transmit the information to the surface for decoding by the computer. With
SRG, its movement will constantly be monitored.
 Other than that, this tool also will produce the data faster. Basically, SRG will run on
wireline when there is a kicking off near casing, where there is magnetic
interference is present.

The limitions on the surface readout gyro (SRG) surveying tools

 The wellbore may be drilled at pretty high temperature bottomhole condition, and
this hot bottomhole will ruin the film and reduce the power of batteries used. So, if
the tool is left at high temperature for too long, the film will be burned.
 The functions that it will monitoring while carrying orientation can make the tools
bent correctly. So, once the bent sub is correctly oriented, the tools must be pulled
out to prevent the mechanism would be damage when drilling begins.
 The magnetometer also can be affected by steel collar or drill pipe. So, the probe
must be seated with non-magnetic collar.
 Then, when the BOP has to be closed when we are running the tools, there will be
a wire remain in the drill pipe.
