It’s now the norm to have
hundreds if not thousands of
friends on sites like Facebook,
so why do we hear of so many
people still feeling lonely?
A friend of mine recently posted
“ Wow, I’ve got 297 friends
online and not one of them
says hello !!
More alarmingly the recent
news that shocked the fashion
world after twenty year old
international Karl Lagerfield
catwalk model Daul Kim hanged
herself because she felt so
lonely! Her much loved daily blog
on her Facebook page though
Make an active decision to switch
off that voice inside you that
says I’m lonely and list all the
good things you have in life!
Look at relationships you already
have and actually deepen these
friendships and start meeting
them on a face-to-face basis.
Make more of an effort to seek
out and join in activities that
painted a different picture listing
daily her jet setting exploits.
She had friends spread over 5
continents and thousands of
Facebook fans. Yet she was
painfully lonely and no one read
between the lines until on her
final blog she wrote….”Oh, but
how lonely it is” and sadly took
her own life!
Research shows that people seek
connections online more when
they are not happy but that in
itself can start a worrying cycle.
If you’re anxious or depressed,
seeing all these people supposedly
having such a good time can
actually make you feel worse !
involve deeper connections with
real people. Maybe join a yoga
or dance class! Resist the urge to
paint a happier picture of your
life even if it means maintaining
online silence.
Listen to what your real friends
have to say and confide in them
if necessary!

I Survived a Bliz
In December 2001 Ian Xuereb,
a Maltese mountaineer, set off
to fulfill a personal dream and
climb the snowy peaks at Campo
Pericoli, Gran Sasso in Italy.
But overnight his lifelong dream
turned into a life threatening
nightmare when a blizzard
trapped him at an altitude of
2,900m with no visibility, gale
force winds reaching 170km/hr
and temperatures as low as -28°c
On his return the media claimed
he got lost whilst mountaineering
but today Ian explains what
really happened !

If you missed Nicky Bomba’s
performance at the ‘Iration
Party’ you surely missed a
top drawer performance from
surely one of the best Maltese
Australian on stage entertainers!
Besides having all those present
jumping on the dance floor Nicky
Bomba himself was having so
much fun on stage supported by
members of Tribali and Fakawi.

Sultana from Juuls also helped
fulfill his dream to return to his
roots and perform on his homeland!
Nicky Bomba was in fact born in
Paola but his family emigrated to
Australia in the mid sixties.
In Australia Nicky has built a solid
reputation in the music industry
via many projects including
conducting the 30pce Melbourne
Ska Orchestra to playing drums
on John Butler’s award-winning
‘Sunrise over Sea’.

After years of working with

bands from Africa to the Middle
East and honing his reggae, ska
and mento expertise, Nicky has
drawn on his musical journeys
and philosophies to produce his
first ever solo work, Planet Juice.

His new work sees him getting

back to his roots; spending
more time on the drum kit on
top of a kaleidoscope of other
instruments including the
ukulele, marimba and guitar.

Reggae in Malta is once again
finding it’s roots thanks to our
bredrin, Ras Nicki Sultana. With
his fellow bredrins and sistrens
behind him he has managed to
bless our lifes with rasta vibes
and positive vibrations.
Nicki says “we all strive to push
out the message that reggae
music carries because we truly
believe that it can heal the
world and bring peace to the
human population.”
Nicki’s passion and love for
raggae inspired him to start
organizing his own events and
over the last few years, these
reggae nights have grown in
popularity attracting a beautiful
local and foreign crowd, all
contributing to the soothing vibe
and electric energy.
For sure the love and awareness
for reggae in Malta is on the rise
and why not who would want to
miss out on such an atmosphere?
On meeting Nicki it is clear that
he is grateful to be earning a
living doing what he truly loves,
helping to bring the community
closer together through music.
NIcki also told us that he’s very

Besides the annual march
down Republic Street, Valletta
organized my MGRM various

At the University of Malta it’s
become somewhat of a joke
to reopen the ageing condom
machine-on-campus debate.
Way back in 1993 a KSU motion
in senate to install a condom
machine was instantly shot down.
Still today a 2009 scientific survey
by Move seems to have fallen on
deaf ears.
The Malta Medical Students
Association (MMSA) and the
Catholic University students group
(MKSU) are at loggerheads over
the issue. Therefore ‘theCODEtv’
is asking you the inevitable
question; if it were entirely up
