Levels of Technology Integration (LoTi Level): (Level determined by the specific lesson idea)
☐ Level 1: Awareness ☒ Level 2: Exploration ☐ Level 3: Infusion ☐ Level 4: Integration
☐ Level 5: Expansion ☐ Level 6: Refinement
Universal Design for Learning (UDL): There is an available transcript for students who may be hard of hearing
or possibly deaf. This allows them to still understand what topic we will be covering.
Lesson idea implementation: The activity will be a flipped classroom activity before we begin our lesson on
the life cycle of a butterfly. Students will be asked to observe butterflies in nature and write down questions
they have about them. They will come to class with this activity complete with their questions written on a
sheet a paper. After everyone has completed the at home portion of this assignment we will start an
introduction to the unit.
As we are moving on into the unit we will watch a short video on the basics of the life cycle of a butterfly.
This will allow the questions students have to be answered, and if they are not we will discuss them as a class.
This video will be age appropriate, and we will have an activity at the end of class to review the cycles. The
activity will be to design their own butterfly and present it to their classmates.
Importance of technology: In order to complete the flipped classroom activity, I would first need to create a
classroom blog for my students and their parents to view. This is where I can post my presentations,
classroom notes, and updates for everyone to see in case they missed a lesson.
Reflective Practice: After finishing this lesson I would only hope my students enjoyed covering the life cycle
topics. I would also like to have parent and student permission to publish their works of art on the classroom
blog for their peers to see, and for their parents to see. If there are some parents who do not want their
child’s art to be published they will not be published.
