Conclusion

From the visit to Sumitomo Electric Sintered Components (M) Sdn. Bhd., we have
witnessed the real life production process that we had learned in class beforehand that started
from Mixing the metal powder, then Compacting them and then Sintering and lastly will
undergo secondary operations such as Sizing, Forging etc before becoming a Finished Product.
The examples of finished products are gear & cam, lock set, ring gear, inter axle and cam caps
for instance. These products are complex enough that they need to be produced from powder
metallurgy process. Apart from that we got to know how working in industry feels like and
how this company is playing a big part in this country’s automotive industry. Finally, it was
indeed a good experience to be given the opportunity to visit the factory and not to mention the
engineers there were helpful enough to give us clear information and instructions throughout
the visit which in turn enhanced our understanding about this subject.
