Overall Lesson Learning Objectives
The students will learn that wind is what makes waves. We
will also use sounds, movement and ribbon to understand
the shapes and movements of ocean waves.

Why This Work of Art?..
The reason I picked this artwork is because I loved the
textures that it has. I envisioned the kids finger painting
their own waves and learning about the different
directions of the waves.
Movement/Music Activity
- Learning Objective: The students will use different shades of blue ribbon and dance in
a circle to the sounds and video of waves and use the ribbon to recreate the rippling
motion of a wave.
- Materiels: Ribbon, Music, Wave sounds
- Prompt/Instruction: Have the children stand in a circle on the carpet as I play the
sounds of the waves I will tell the children to move the scarves in the way that they
hear it on the screen. After I will show videos of crashing waves and have them act out
with the videos with their scarves the motion of the waves.
Art Lesson
- Learning Objectives: To teach the movement of waves and what makes
a wave move. Through using their hands they will be able to
understand the movement of a wave.
- Materials: Thick white paper, Smocks, Different shades of blue finger
paint, White paint.
Art Lesson Instructions
1. Look at the painting and look at the textures of the waves
2. Look at the painting and understand the colors used and why we are using them
3. Set up with paper in front
4. Practice with the kids the motion of their hand movements in order to make a wave
5. Set out the different shades of paint
6. Allow them to use their hands to recreate the wave painting
