Based on the novel ‘Catch Us If You Can written by Catherine MacPhail, a
decision made by Rory that changed his life was when he did the Great Escape. Rory planned the Great Escape when he was at Castle Street. One night, he went to Rachnadar and took Granda out. From that moment, they began the journey of the Great Escape and this decision definitely changed his life. Firstly, the Great Escape changed his life when he got to be with his Granda. After the burning of the flat, Val Jessup put Granda in Rachnadar and Rory was placed in Castle Street, a children’s home. Both of them were unhappy and miserable when they could not be together. Granda said Rachnadar was a place where they put old folks that nobody wanted. Rory was determined to get them back together. So, the Great Escape clearly changed his life when he got to be with his Granda because they then had each other through thick and thin and no longer apart from each other. Secondly, the Great Escape changed Rory’s life when he and his Granda were always chased by a lot of people. When they were at Darren’s mum’s caravan, the police came after them when they found out about their escape. Rory and Granda were on television every day because people were looking for them. At Perth Station, a boy kept his grip on Rory’s jacket because he wanted to take them to the police. So, the Great Escape changed his life when he and his Granda were always chased by a lot of people because they had to keep on running as they were no longer safe like before the burning of the flat. Finally, the Great Escape changed Rory’s life when Rory was reunited with his father in Liverpool. Rory never had a father before the Great Escape. So, Rory brought Granda to Liverpool to find his long lost father. Eventhough he knew Granda would be mad, he still wanted to go there because he believed by meeting his father, his life would get better. At last, Rory met his father and got to know his new mother and siblings. So, the Great Escape changed his life when Rory was reunited with his father in Liverpool because then, he had a family and definitely life would be more complete. In conclusion, the Great Escape changed Rory’s life when he got back together with Granda, they were always chased by a lot of people and he was reunited with his father in Liverpool.
