Objectives: SWBAT
- Understand that professional writers must cite their sources to properly credit other’s
ideas.
- Know MLA format
- Use an MLA style guide (Purdue Owl)
- Make corrections to their MLA format based on a style guide.
Assessments:
- Diagnostic: Exit ticket from last Friday indicated that most students are still struggling
with MLA, particularly how to start with a source and then generate a works cited entry
independently.
- Formative: Exit ticket: students will submit one of the works cited entries that they
generate during classwork today. This will indicate whether or not they need more
support.
- Summative: Process Paper, specifically the Works Cited page. Works cited entry is 20%
of their grade on the rubric.
Instruction:
- Opener/announcements. Small talk with my chatty cathys. Talk about their process
papers: progress made over the weekend.
- Bring up exit ticket responses from Friday.
- Model how to generate a works cited entry from scratch on the computer. Google
Purdue Owl, model how to navigate the website.
- Give students a few random sources. Have them generate a few works cited entries.
They may submit the best one for a grade and the rest for feedback.
- Workshop time for papers.
- Conference with JL, SS, and A.
- Closure: submit WC. entries if they haven’t already.
